View Full Version : Is Jermain Taylor The Next Middleweight Champion?
Mr. Violence 02-21-2005, 10:35 PM With Hopkins turning 40 and getting ready to retire soon...the Middleweight division will be wide open for the taking. Is the young prospect Jermain Taylor the man to take over the division once Hopkins is out? :boxing:

IMO, without a doubt. Hopkins will ensure that he retires instead of facing him.
QueenCity 02-21-2005, 10:49 PM If somehow Jermain Taylor doesn't wind up being Bernard Hopkins next opponent Jermain should fight Felix Sturm. It would be paring up the two brightest young fighters in the divison, I would like Taylor in that fight but Strurm is close to at his level.
Zab Super Judah 02-21-2005, 10:55 PM how much longer do you guys think taylor can actually make middleweight
MWCOFSU 02-21-2005, 11:03 PM how much longer do you guys think taylor can actually make middleweight
not much longer. there are already widespread rumors of difficulty making weight. I think he fights Hopkins later this year and win or lose jumps up in weight. All of Hopkins other opponents are tied up with fights so Taylor is the best option.

yeah, i think taylor should move up to supermidddle or even 175.
supermiddle is one of the weakest divs in boxing right now, taylor could easily be undisputed at 168, or he could go all the way up to 175 and have an easy time with everyone there except Glencoffe Johnson ( i bet if taylor goes to 175 he'll wait for johnson to retire or get beat by someone else ) i see Taylor putting a beating on Tarver, though, or i should say, i'd like to
yes coz Taylor has the height, power speed and stamina demolished the middleweights...
BTW in the right time...
Zab Super Judah 02-22-2005, 12:22 AM im a fan of taylors but i dont think he could stay at middleweight too long......his body is big.....i would love to see a lacy vs taylor or tarver vs taylor
AintGottaClue 02-22-2005, 12:25 AM mmm lacy taylor i like that btw new middle weight champ is u know that one guy
Knicksman20 02-22-2005, 12:35 AM Taylor should be able to win the middle weight crown only after Hopkins retires. Right now I don't think he can beat Tito either. Lacy would give him a rough fight & might even stop him because Lacy has been in the ring his last 2 fights with alot tougher opposition than Taylor ever has.
m00ks 02-22-2005, 12:38 AM Well if Taylor can't make midleweight anymore, who the heck is teh heir apparent now?
Floydmayweather 02-22-2005, 12:38 AM Taylor will kill Tito if he uses his jab. Tito is very good but one dimensional and if Taylor uses his size and jab he will knockhim out. ;)
Zab Super Judah 02-22-2005, 12:42 AM if winky gets passed trinidad he is the heir apparent........he would be a difficult matchup for anyone at middleweight......but i dont think my boy tito is going to lose

nah, not against winky.

Taylor is too green for Tito & his big fight experience. Taylor makes rookie mistakes when he's in the ring & he gets hit unnecessarily. With Tito's power, you can't afford to make mistakes like that.

nah, Tito is still a real step up in class for Taylor ( at this point ), he's not Bernard Hopkins. Taylor might beat Tito but he'll at least get knocked down, Tito, maybe Sturm, and definitley Hops could hand Jermain his first loss - he ain't ready for those guys yet. It'd be better to try and make the fight with Hops, if it happens Taylor will lose, then take the loss like a man and move up to supermiddle and dominate there
The Phantom Menace 02-22-2005, 01:13 AM It's too early to tell if he will be the next champion. He does show lots of potential however.
The Fix 02-22-2005, 01:15 AM i think kingley ikeke could be in the running along with jermain taylor for next champion. hopefully they fight eachother

I agree I think that would be a hell of a fight. Eastman was the guy who got the shot at Hop but I think it should have been Ikeke.

i agree. i remember at the time ikeke was supposed to be hopkins opponent but eastman took his place.
czars_salad 02-22-2005, 01:42 AM trinidad is heir apparent to hopkins throne!
Shaolin Bushido 02-22-2005, 02:16 AM Jermaine Taylor can beat some of the top 10 guys but not all, that's for damn sure.
Put him in with Sturm instead of coronating his ass just cause he's American. Sturm should be ahead of him in terms of a title shot imo.

after he beats bert schnek he actually will be ahead of him but people wont admit it cause they dont wanna check the ratings
Floydmayweather 02-22-2005, 01:17 PM Taylor will beat sturm mark my words. Tito and Bhop will give him trouble but after a few more fights and some polishing he will be at least 50/50 against Bhop and he has the power to hurt Tito he is a slow starter if he works on a few things. ;)
