I have to appear to the courthouse for Jury Duty at 9:15 am tomorrow and was wondering if their was anyway I could get out of it??...I know for work you HAVE to go, but is their a law that would permit not to be able to go? Im supposed to be their at 9:15 and I have a class (college student) at 11:00. So in question, if I go down to the courthouse and tell them my situation will I be excused?????

Sounds like your screwed spinx. You can try and pleed your case but I doubt it will do any good. When did you first hear you had to go? Sometimes if you feed them a line of **** real early, they'll buy it. I dont think they will let you off tomorrow.

About a month ago, I had to fill out a paper at the time it had asked if I would have any conflicts in schedule and I said no. But also I wasnt registered for the class I have that will take place during this time period. So it was to late anyhow. My line of **** is more than a reason to let me off. I am signed up for a class that is 5 weeks long and the professor crams in 4 chapters a week with exams every saturday along with video case studies and 5 page essays. It is a 17 week course crammed into 5 weeks. My **** is more important than some chummy kid getting put on probation for 2 years because of smoking in the boys room.

Very true. I remeber a story when my dad was in jury duty once. One of the jurors daughters got admitted to the hospital and the judge wouldn't let him off. The judge said something like "well your not a doctor so I cant see how you can help her." I would have knock that ****er out if he said that **** to me.

Wow thats harsh...Looking briefly at the laws, it looks as if I wont be excused. Although they do prescreening and my only hope is to flop that...Plus the dress code is supposed to be appropriate and t-shirts and jeans are not considered appropriate...Any guess as to what I am wearing?

After they show you the video and they start asking questions excusing jurors, give them an answer you know will disqualify you.

Like tell them you're sure the guy's guilty because you can see it all over his face. Or tell them you're prejudiced against his race or that he looks gay and you hate gays. Then say he looks like a guy you may have gotten in a fight with a time back and the perfect revenge would be to find him guilty.

Then say you find the judicial system flawed and tell them you lead a vigiliante gang that tries to right the problems in our court system. Then as they lead you away, yell at him, "I'll be waiting for your ass outside, *****!"

That ought to do it. And you'll still have time to get to class.

Haha, that had me cracking...Might have to try that.....

So far, im screwed....Unless I give a logical reason as to why I dont want to serve, like you say..."I hate gays and he looks like one." Type of deal, but I dont think I have the cajones to pull that one off....

Damn this sucks, I already called the courthouse and said I might not be appearing where can I pay the fine. The lady said the fine was like 1,100 and asked for my name..I told her to have a nice day and I will see her later....

Well this sucks.

I got called for jury duty while in college once. i went to the courthouse and explained that I was a grad student working on my thesis and I couldn't afford the time. They said "no problem" and let me off.

Yeah that was my gameplan, but I came up with a definite and legitimate excuse...Well sort of.

I am going to explain to them that I have class at 11am and I cant afford to miss it and then after class I will be going out of town to meet up with my family in Cincinatti who is searching for my cousin. (she has been missing 5 days after she got off at the bus station) So surely that would get me off, sure its harsh me using that as an excuse as I have no intention of looking for her but my family will be their :) That should clear me...Hopefully.

You should probably be OK.
I this not too hard to get out of it... but the problem is that even if you get off, you have to wait around forever until they let you go.
It is a lose-lose situation.

I didnt NOT want to go because I thought it was a waste, infact I was a bit excited. But I feel my education is more important than that at this point.

Provided I didnt have class, I would love to go.
