View Full Version : Has any fight been this hyped?
oldgringo 02-21-2005, 10:13 AM Has any other fight on BoxingScene been as hyped as Morales/Pacquiao? I can't remember one since I've been here or been viewing the forums. DLH/Hopkins was kind of hyped up but not on this scale where straight bets and nationality are such a large part of the whole scene. I think it probably just has to do with the growing number of people at this site. Holla back.

It seems like Manny Pacquiao is extremley popular on this site that may have somthing to do with it.
That is because everybody is expecting to see Morales get knocked out. But I hope Manny does not underestimate Morales.

No fight as long as Boxingscene has been around. It has do with the large amount of Mexicans and Pinoy's on this board.
MlLkMan 02-21-2005, 11:00 AM No fight as long as Boxingscene has been around. It has do with the large amount of Mexicans and Pinoy's on this board.
Just supportin our HERO.
Mr. Violence 02-21-2005, 11:00 AM It's because you have nationalism behind this fight. It's like Mexico versus the Phillipines. The Mexicans want revenge because Pacman already destroyed one of their Mexicans(Marco Antonio Barrera)
Crouching Tiger 02-21-2005, 11:27 AM No other fight or fighters in a very long time comes close to the hype, popularity and excitement generated by Pac and Erik and their much awaited fight. Number 1 reason is national pride because both fighters (including MAB and JMM) are considered heroes or icons on both sides of the fence. And this is fueled even more by the passionate, emotional and nationalistic nature of both the Pinoys and Mexicans. I can't recall of any other boxer in history (American, British, South Americans, Thai, Korean, etc.) who had such an almost total backing and adoration from their countrymen!
I just hope there won't be a rumble or riot inside MGM on March 19 b etween these 2 groups!!!!!!He-he...:D
Here's to Pac and Erik, MAB abd JMM for bringing life, color and excitement back to boxing!! :)
JOM'S 02-21-2005, 11:32 AM PAC-EM is one of the fight most fans want to see happen and we are all so lucky that it is happening now ...

I'll agree with that
m00ks 02-21-2005, 12:48 PM It's cuz it's a superfight and ya, it's pitting two hard hitting warriors in the same ring. Nationality has a lot to do with it as well but if won't be as exciting and hyped if one of the fighters was a mover rather than a puncher. They both fight best pressing the attack and the collision is enough to make anybody wet themselve. Both have the power, both have the desire and both are COMING WITH EVERYTHING! It's officially hyped!
morancito 02-21-2005, 12:55 PM I think in this particular case, the hype is completely justified. Both are great, exciting fighters, both have KO power, both are relentless and both like to brawl. There is absolutely zero chance for this fight to be boring.
oldgringo 02-21-2005, 01:02 PM It'd be ****ing hilarious is the opening bell rang and Pacquiao just went up to Morales and gave him a hug...and then both guys refused to fight.
I'd laugh my ****ing ass off but this board would turn into WWIII

See I can't wait for that. I know it's gonna suck if Pac wins and I have to shell out all my dough and suffer through the severe personal anguish of seeing my fighter lose and all of the Pac lovers flip out like Pac's superman...
But if and when Morales wins I'm gonna be all:
:bryce: :headbang:  :booty:
It will be a thing of beauty. And Morales looks hard as ****in nails in some of these fight posters I'm seeing so I know he's gonna come in ready to **** some **** up.

I don't think the press conference would have bad blood. Both fighters respect each other but I do agree that it'll will have a tremendous atmosphere.
psychopath 02-21-2005, 04:53 PM One thing is sure . . . we need to have a clear winner here without any doubt no controversy http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v638/pso_junior/happy.gif
or the howling, the growling and the *****ing will never end.
chingon28 02-21-2005, 05:03 PM i think this fight has alot to do with the pride of the mexican people. pac-man, i hate to say beat barerra and that was a mexican hero. so this is like redemption for us. alot of people arent giving morales a shot, but i think they will be suprised. i dont know maybe that is my biased opinion. but i have seen em fight many times to know that he can keep throwing punches for twelve rounds without showing any sign of getting tired. manny seemed to get tired in the fight with marquez. he hit jmm with the same punches that he hit him with in the first round but they didnt have the same effect on them cause he didnt have much behind him. i think marquez also showed that manny can be timed and countered easily. if morales can take manny's power in the early rounds then i think he will take manny into deep waters and out point him.
Crouching Tiger 02-21-2005, 05:04 PM One thing is sure . . . we need to have a clear winner here without any doubt no controversy or the howling, the growling and the *****ing will never end.
Bro, clear winner or not, controversial or not, it would not be the end. Believe me, it'll be the start of another round of MORE howling, MORE growling, MORE *****ing, MORE "I told you's" from the outside protagonists - the Pinoy and Mexican fans!!! :D
Using Tracylee's words: OH, BROTHER!! :p

And yes, I almost forgot. MAB and JMM are eagerly waiting at the wings. That's more reason why this hype will never die down!!!!! Oh, brother indeed!!!

Good post Bro., finally a good arguement from the other side. :) True this involves pride reason why a lot of your paisano's are taking it personally against Pac fans which should not be the case . . . this is just a sport and a matter of supporting your country's sports hero. :D nothing more. Win or lose on this encounter both fighters moves on.
As to Pac's performance against JMM . . . he did not tire out . . . is just being burdened by his injuries. And if JMM was able to show that Pac can be countered it is because JMM is a very awesome counter puncher. Both Mab and Eric cannot counter punch like JMM does. This is also the reason why a lot of Pac fans believe that JMM is more dangerous opponent for Pac than MAB and Eric . . . and this include Roach. ;)

ottoevans 02-21-2005, 09:02 PM its cause theres never been a asian fighter before

OG I think its also because there hasn't been a great Asian fighter since Flash Elorde in the 60s who's had this much of an international appeal and following. Win or lose Pac's legend will only grow after this fight. And so will Erik's.
THRILLAinmanila 02-21-2005, 09:17 PM See I can't wait for that. I know it's gonna suck if Pac wins and I have to shell out all my dough and suffer through the severe personal anguish of seeing my fighter lose and all of the Pac lovers flip out like Pac's superman...

The pay-up will be the easy part . The posts coming from the Pinoys in the days after the fight will be very excruciating :D
THRILLAinmanila 02-21-2005, 09:18 PM Long Live the Mexican and Pinoy Fighters !
.::|ULTIMATE|::. 02-21-2005, 10:35 PM I believe the reason for the hype up of this fight is these two are proven Warriors. Always leave everything in the ring, no running just straight boxing. With DLH and Hopkins it was a big fight (IMO Overhyped even though) but there was a 50/50 chance it was gonna be a dud just like it was. This fight promises fireworks from two pyrotechnics that have shown nothing but that in previous fights. We also have the most reveered Mexican fighter since Chavez and the most reveered Phillipines fighter (probably ever?). The Nationality thing is a huge part. Example: The World Cup, when your country competes places close down when your country plays, when its not in, everyone forgets about it and just watches their national league.
I cant wait, got the beer and chips ready :D
.::|ULTIMATE|::. 02-21-2005, 10:38 PM I will say i was psyched about the JMM-PAC fight as well. There is a matter of fact I was in the middle of a move and I actually ordered HBO and cable just for the fight. I drove 250 miles took my sleeping bag with me (my dad and little bro came along too) and slept in a house with no furniture except for some chairs, inflatable matress, kitchen table and washer and dryer. :D
Mech. 02-21-2005, 10:43 PM It's because you have nationalism behind this fight. It's like Mexico versus the Phillipines. The Mexicans want revenge because Pacman already destroyed one of their Mexicans(Marco Antonio Barrera)
man i guess its part of the excitement for some, but the nationality thing just kills it, like i want to objective about this fight, and then somone's like "ALL YOU MEXICANS GOING DOWN",and i didnt even like barrera, but its like...****, i hate you now. :P keep that **** to a minimum! because already you can tell that nobody who wins, that kinda ****s gonna blow up even worse afterwards!
QueenCity 02-21-2005, 10:46 PM This fight should get plenty of hype, I'm almost starting to count off the weeks before it on my calender because this fight promeses to be a damn good one.
Mr. Violence 02-21-2005, 10:50 PM man i guess its part of the excitement for some, but the nationality thing just kills it, like i want to objective about this fight, and then somone's like "ALL YOU MEXICANS GOING DOWN",and i didnt even like barrera, but its like...****, i hate you now. :P keep that **** to a minimum! because already you can tell that nobody who wins, that kinda ****s gonna blow up even worse afterwards!
I understand completely...it's like when one of the English dudes start talking **** about an American fighter...than it becomes a USA verses England thing.
both fighters are excllent and both hav the fight of the year kinda fights... so were lookking forward to that
great fight tho. and i need a stream for it.. i wana hav 1 asap
oldgringo 02-22-2005, 03:01 PM The pay-up will be the easy part . The posts coming from the Pinoys in the days after the fight will be very excruciating :D
I wont mind it when guys like you, jomapac, fist-fest, miron lang, kepsy, chups, etc...talk **** because you guys are capable of having logical thoughts and making sane claims about your fighter. It's the people that just sit here all day and say of Pacquiao, "Manny's two fisted punching power will kill Morales in 3 rounds. The first mistake Morales makes the fight is over! I want Morales to win, but I've watched alot of Pac's earlier fights, so now I wont go so far as to SWEAR Erik will win. I was impressed with what I've seen so far (still have more to go) but I've been a fan or Morales for many yrs, so I still gotta root for him. I've not made any bets on this fight cause a while back I donated out a great deal of my points. I still have plenty...I'm just not sure who I wanna bet with!

Oh my God...could you imagine a draw?!? that would be terrible, if only over the feedback at this site! I will be rooting for Morales, but if he wins, I wont be in any of the "yeah, yeah, told ya..Pac is one dimensional, etc.." cause I now know differently. I do think Eriks's chin is much better than some give him credit for, therefore no knocking him out. I'm beginning to think it'll go the distance, and regardless it should be an amazing battle, cause neither guy believes in backing down, and neither one cares much for defense! :D

ELPacman 02-22-2005, 05:24 PM Um same here though come on, as annoying as they can be, it's good for boxing. It seems Manny has opened a huge door of viewers for boxing in the US with the filipinos. I myself am not Filipino though love watching Manny duke it out. I can say though after showing my friend who is Filipino afew of Manny's fight, he as well has become a huge boxing fanatic and isn't just Pacquiao giddy. It's like this that boxing can grow bigger. :)

you see thats what i dont get
i thought it was Paquiao Vs Moralez.
Not Mexico Vs The Philiphin islands (sorry if i mispelled it)

pac man is the best boxer ever"
Or"

I agree. Theyre both gonna give it their all..Erik has to redeem himself, and Manny wants to prove something ( I'm guessing). It wont be one sided at all..if it was, we all wouldnt be so excited about seeing it to begin with!

Damn, whats with the insults? It's so damn not necessary, and nobody wants to debate with someone that does that! Its hard to take you serious when you resort to that type of crap anyway. Sorry Tracylee, I just get annoyed when people try to act all high and mighty when they don't even know a good fight when they see one. Pac-Morales is going to be a great fight and I don't see why people have to bash on it just because they are tired of hearing about it. Keep ythe opinions to yourselves because all of us on the internet don't give a damn about what criticism( I mean, WTF does e-respect mean anyways) People like jack the Rippuh probably used to get picked on all the time. Actually, I've seen a pic of Jack the Rippuh and he looks like a complete geek. Bet he pulls alot of girls.

Damn chill mayne it was just his opinion. It's an open forum and he's welcome to express his opnion just like you and I are. Not all people get hype for the same fights. Maybe he could care less about the fight and is sick of hearing about it...this is my thread and I dont even give a **** that he said it. I understand that it pissed you off amigo, but calm down with the insults...a simple, "well if you don't like it you can leave" would have had the same effect. I think it probably just has to do with the growing number of people at this site. Holla back.I've never been to ANY site that nuthugs Pac more than here. That said, he's on a roll and kicking butt but I think Morales is too big a mouthful for him to digest. He finally has gone up one weight class too much.
Morales closes the club on him and his fans.
Counter Puncher 02-22-2005, 11:05 PM By just reading all these posts, whether they make sense or not, already gives me the answer why this fight is the most hyped up- EVER! Everyone is soooo passionate about the fight, the boxers, and everything that has anything to do with it. Peace!
Kid Achilles 02-23-2005, 02:28 AM Plenty of fights have been more hyped. This fight might be making a big deal on this forum but it's not like the American media is going after it like they did Cooney-Holmes, Bowe-Golota II, Ali-Frazier (or Ali-Foreman for that matter) or the Bower-Holyfield fights. Those were HUGE fights, and I've only listed modern fights so far.
If you go back to when boxing was big you'd find a lot of super hyped fights. Louis-Schmeling II for one, and going very far back Jack Johnson vs. Jim Jeffries was huge for all the wrong reasons. A lot of the Dempsey title defenses were world news. The results made the front page headlines.
To be honest, Pacquaio will never get the recognition of a popular heavyweight champ. It's unfair, but that's life.

Bet he pulls alot of girls.
no need to apologize to me..you didnt insult me!
Jack may be alot of things (dont know for sure exactly what though :D ) but he's never struck me as high and mighty..anybody that would use the avatar he was using a while back to honor a lost bet may appear 'high', but in no way 'mighty'!! Trust me, you would have had to have seen it to believe it!!
I understand most see no need to 'respect' total strangers..but if I want my posts to be taken serious and my opinions to even be considered instead of laughed at (since I am female) then I do try and show atleast a little respect for the other posters as human beings, if nothing else, even if I disagree..I cant do otherwise and expect anyting in return. Now if I came here and posted, just to force my opinion down everyones throat and say to hell with them, then it wouldnt matter. But, I actually like the "feedback" from alot of the people here, and I've learned a few things I didnt know about the sport from some of them too...I cant have any of that happen if I'm constantly insulting and cursing and calling others lives "pathetic"..if you get my meaning. That was what I meant about a little respect for your fellow poster.
As for Jack looking like a geek, well, I dont know or care what he looks like..he's always been nice and fun to debate with far as I was concerned anyway..and if he was picked on as a kid then thats just sad..I wouldnt wish that type of **** on anyone here..not while theyre kids, and none of that really has anything to do with the posters opinion, I dont think
I do agree with you about the fight being a damn good one though..cant wait personally!!!
fist-of-fury 02-23-2005, 09:45 PM To be honest, Pacquaio will never get the recognition of a popular heavyweight champ. It's unfair, but that's life.
The recognition of being a popular featherweight/ superfeatherweight champ is enough. Let's leave the HWs alone.
Morales-Pacman doesn't come close to many truly "hyped" fights. However, it could prove to be the most hyped Feather bout.
If you want hype, try Holmes-Cooney, Frazier-Ali I, just for starters.
Greatest thing about this fight is that we know both guys will show-up ready and give us everything they've got. There will be no excuses about training camp interruptions or some other "problem" preparing. The hype will be the hype, and the fight has all the makings of a classic. In either case, expect to a quick rematch, even if one guy totally out-guns the other.
Metalhands 02-23-2005, 10:48 PM No other fight or fighters in a very long time comes close to the hype, popularity and excitement generated by Pac and Erik and their much awaited fight.
:)Like to quote you on that dude, I believe fight fans are matured enough to understand this is just a boxing match nothing personal about it dude ;)
