has anyone else gotten sick of hearing joy jones constantly talk about himself? it was just enough saturday night. everytime lamply would ask roy his opinion or any other question all roy would do was talk about himself. all i wanted to do was say to him....."hey roy......YOU GOT KNOCK THE FUG OUT!!!!!!" FRIDAY style. not one single comment that roy jones made did not include the words....I or me. what a loser.

...Your right!!! When will he get that his time has passed and nothing going on is about him? IMO he isn't a player of any kind anymore. Who really gives a **** what he is thinking about doing anyway? He is gonna get his ass killed in the ring if he doesn't wake the **** up and realize he aint got it anymore. If I were HBO I would tell him to STFU and talk about the real boxers and leave his wet dreams out of it.

He might talk about himself alot but I also think he is a very good broadcaster and he know what he is talking about.

He was just riding high on the fact that he was the last man to beat Hopkins and Hopkins wouldnt have had his 20th defense if Roy stayed at 160....I found it rather unprofessional for the way Roy acted saturday night, but if you look at all of the other commentators they were way out of line as well. The whole production for the show on saturday was horrible, during certain times you could hear Lampley take off his head set and hear him mumble something.....

But thats Vintage Roy....I found it humorous he could be so high on himself though.

I thought the show was great saturday and thought Roy did a good job. The only thing that bothers me is when HBO degrades a fighters accomplishments, they kept talking down Hopkins because he wasn't brawlig. Anyone that knows anything about boxing should have know that Hopkins/Eastman was not going to be Gatti/Ward1.

i dis agree. i respect your opinion whole heartedly but i just don't think roy is the quality commentator that deserves to be on hbo. c'mon....for cryin outloud tyson sounded more intelligent when asked about sugar ray robinson than roy did when he was asked. again all roy talked about was himself. terrible commentating if you ask me.

i agree with you on the production as a whole. but jones constant mem me i i b.s. is what made me want to change the chanel in between fights. i just feel that they need to get someone else. someone who would actually talk about the sport without constantly talking about themselves and never actually staying ith the subject at hand.

True, but HBO always looks for a strong personality and to pull in ratings. I really couldnt pick any fighter to do commentating because the talk always leads back to them. Lampley consistantly does this with Roy, while Merchant blows them off and talks his own talk. They didnt do this with Foreman but Foreman was always like "He needs just that one big punch and its over" EVERY SINGLE ROUND OF EVERY SINGLE FIGHT. It's annoying, Ray Leonard did a better job than Foreman and Roy combined....Although anybody they pulled in today aside from Tyson would boast about themselves. But I could hardly understand Tyson saturday and I knew what he was trying to say but he couldnt put the right words to say it.

I used to be a Roy Jones fan until I started to see what a classless dickhead he is. He did beat Hopkins fair and square but the truth is neither were in their prime when they fought. His commentary Saturday night showed shades of thinly disguised jealousy toward Hopkins because Hopkins legacy is now bigger than his. Like Roy's comment "Hopkins is the kind of guy that likes to stay in one weight division and dominate-I needed more than that that's why I became Heavyweight Champion- king of the mountain."...that statement is a half truth, because everyone knows who the true Champion was at the time...Lennox Lewis was the true linier champion. If Roy would have moved up and beaten the true champ Lennox that would have been a great feat no doubt, much like when Spinx moved up in the 1980's and defeated Larry Holmes. But instead Roy went after one of the alphabet soup belts and a much easier challenge than Lewis in John Ruiz. So Roy needs to stop hyping that as much as he does since he didnt beat the true Heavyweight Champion...he never was "the" Heavyweight Champion-king of the mountain. Oh well, Bernard now has a bigger legacy 20 title defenses...and counting so Roy "knock out victim" Jones is just jealous that Hopkins will be remembered by something great and he'll be remembered for getting knocked the **** out twice.

i hear ya elvis. just ask tracylee, im a huge jones nuthugger and i must admit i got sick of hearing him the other night. the huge delay was bad enough but all the bull**** made it worse. when roy is calm and talks about whats going on in the ring he's great cause he points things out very well but sometimes he gets to excited and starts yelling into the camera and talking out of his ass, i admit it got on my nerves enough to flip between channels until the fight started. all the best fighters have enormous ego's, lennox lewis is kinda the same way. i do wish emanuel steward would come back for a few fights in place of roy.

One thing I didn't agree with Roy doing was when Lampley said 'Do you wish you did this' It sounded aggressive when roy almost yelled at him, "I HAD NEVER WISHED ANYTHING IN MY WHOLE LIFE" and continued on about himself..lol lampley just sat there with that smirk

i know lampley was thinking 'ok we gotta get this ******* off the air,'

Ya, that pissed me off when I heard that. Can't believe he would say something so disrespectful to b-hop..

it was refreshing to hear Taylor's humble respectful interview though, "It's an honor to fight on Bernard hopkins card" etc was great to hear from him.

and yeah when he said that **** about being heavyweight champ, I laughed my ass off, thinking to myself "hell most good 140-175'ers could whip ruiz anyway, all you were doing was a circus freak show to say you beat a heavy" dking probably motivated roy to do it too

"Hopkins is the kind of guy that likes to stay in one weight division and dominate-I needed more than that that's why I became Heavyweight Champion- king of the mountain.".

I don't see how that is disrespectful? he basically just said what Hopkins is doing...that Hopkins likes to dominate his weight class!

he is a very good commentator...he IS a fighter with a history so if he has some relation to the questions or fighters he is commentating on, of course he will bring himself up...

don't you guys know Roy Jones Jr. already? this is who he is...I thought you would have been used to it by now.

I guess no one pays attention to to the MANY more times where he is professional and insightful in his broadcasting. He does very well and points out things in fights that the other commentators wouldn't normally notice.

Merchant just doesn't like any of today's fighters.

Did anyone notice after Taylor won and Merchant went up to interview him, Edoard was hanging on Taylor and said 'You interviewin us both' and merchant said 'NO IM NOT' in a mean way, lol I laughed pretty hard, he just sorta pushed ed aside and got the interview on..then right as it started taylor's like 'he was afraid of the jab, ' haha

With good reason.

Besides, where is Manny Steward anyways? I thought Roy was just going to cover World Championship broadcasts and it was going to be Roy doing a few fights here and Steward doing a few their? Just curious, dont mind because Steward puts me to sleep with his constant mumbling and him and larry doesnt mesh well so it turns me off...But just curious as to why he hasnt been on the programs in a long time.

hey so far i have heard good arguements from both sides but they are all just opinions. as such i still think that jones commentating is terrible. i bet any of the intelligent things he has to say about boxing are scripted for him and he has to practice them for weeks leading up to the fight.

I get tired of hearing Roy now and then, but don't act like you know the man. He is a really nice guy in person and is always accessible, and gives money away to charities for Iraq verterans and G-Man.

In any case, he does bring a fighter's insight and makes good comments, so don't just hook on the bad stuff he does and ***** about it all the time, because you look like a woman if you do that.

Also let me say, Roy's career accomplishments are as good or better than Hopkins'. Period.

Regarding the original poster, I also believe this and always have since I first heard Roy's commentary. I love how he kept brushing in the fact that he beat Hopkins just to feel good that while this guy is making a 20th title defense and going down in history, he still was one of the only guys to beat him. Very annoying although I have to admit, you get some good commentary from Roy just because he knows more of the boxing insights and tactics more ever so than the regular commentaries will know. I found that fact he threw in about the Biceps in the Morales-Barrera III fight pretty interesting and I think it even enlightended the regular HBO commentary. So yeah, he's an A-hole for the most part though he can provide good commentary you won't get from the regular HBO crew and he sure beats Foreman's hilarious, 3 minute explanations on something that could take 10 seconds.

I would have to say Roy has some of the greatest skills of any fighter today (well he did) Take De la hoya and Trinidad out of Hopkins record and Roy's really exceeds that of Hopkins. Roy had tremendous skills but Bernard is up their....I admire both of them equally, but im not a big fan of Roy but he was amazing at the work he did at 160.

he stutters, he repeats himself and he steadfastly refuses
to acknowledge he was koed twice in a row.

b-hop hasnt been koed at all in his career.

i love it when lampley puts him on the spot.
he asks better questions although he takes awhile.

but roy did beat b-hop and he did take a HW title which
plenty of HW's who fought ruiz have failed to done.

so no id replace roy too but dont know who with.

its always good to have someone thier whos been a pro.

and i dont mean foreman who sees every fight through
the eyes of a HW :D

Lampley frequently mentions the 2 knockouts of Roy, but nothing was ever said that was directed towards him about it. Unfortunately so, as I have been anxiously wanting to hear Roy's comments on them....On a side note, I have never recalled any studdering on Jones part either.

Roy's good, but Tyson would make a great commentator. Throw the dog a bone, man.

I think he is pretty good. As long as you know what you are dealing with, and take everything he says with a grain of salt, he is a keeper.
