I wanted to ask this since I saw it on an article on HBO.

http://www.hbo.com/boxing/features/history/lennox_lewis.html

"Asked where Lewis fits into the pantheon of champions, Maloney said: "I rate Lennox among the top five heavyweights. Can you compare Lennox Lewis with Muhammad Ali? I think Lennox would have beaten Ali. Can you compare Lennox with Rocky Marciano? Difficult. Can you compare Lennox with Joe Louis? I think he would have been too big for Joe Louis.

"I actually think Lennox would have been too big for most heavyweights [in history]. The one that would have interested me most would have been Lennox and Larry Holmes. That's a fight I'd have loved to have seen."

So who would win this match up?

Both Holmes and Lewis are counter punchers by nature who are both better on the backfoot than they are on the front foot, but im almost certain Lewis would take the centre of the ring in this fight and take the lead, he would think to himself im the bigger man and im going to force that advantage, and this is why i think Holmes would win, because Lewis is not as good on the offensive as he is on the backfoot, defensive fighters usually aren't, because when you come foward you are usually asked to close the distance quickly but defensively orientated fighters who are not use coming foward dont close distance fast, they fight tentatively like they would do on the backfoot, they end up struggling to cut the ring down in most case because they are not closing distance fast enough.

Lewis has been outjabbed by Ray Mercer and Frank Bruno to so its not like his jab is that great, dont get me wrong Holmes has had his problems when you could argue he was being outjabbed by Carl Williams, bottom line for me though is..............Lewis looks clumbsy on the front foot and he is not that effective there.

The angles Muhammad Ali use to punch off and the head feints he used to draw leads, coupled with his speed of hand and foot, i cant see Lenny beating him either.

Please dont mention Spinks anyone, i think Holmes was 36 at when he fought Spinks

Very hard fight to call. Lewis's power likely wouldn't factor in, but neither do I think Holmes would be likely to hurt him (the only way Lewis ever lost).

Larry is one of the men in history who i think could have beaten Lennox (Ali being the other). Lennox tended to have problems with guys who could jab with him - Larry's one-two was absolutely awesome. In a fifteen rounder I would pick Larry to TKO Lennox. Twelve rounds Lennox loses a decision.

Can you compare Lennox with Rocky Marciano? Difficult. Can you compare Lennox with Joe Louis? I think he would have been too big for Joe Louis

keep in mind Marciano was 5'10 185-190 pounds compared to Louis's 6'2 195-200 pounds

Malone are you related to this clown? Do you run around like this clown in your union jack suit?

Holmes was also 42 when he handled a prime top ten Ray Mercer

If that fight(Mercer) had been 15 or even 12 rounds there is a strong possibility Lewis would of been knocked out, and i mean that.

Lewis was spent as the end of that fight.

I know Holmes can get off the canvas and blaze back because ive seen him do it against Weaver, Shavers, but everytime Lewis got hurt he almost always got knocked out with the exception being the Briggs fight, who also wobbled him.

Stupid comment by Kenny, size does not always win fights, especially if you are a big Heavyweight who is inclined to tire because of all that extra size you have to carry around.

I used to think simplistically about fantasy fights, but that was when i was a teenager. I realize there is a lot more to it now.

Look at the trouble Lewis had with Mercer and McCall.

An old Larry Holmes beat Mercer far more convincingly 3/4 years before that, also an old Holmes damn near beat Oliver McCall to, its only because Holmes got tired towards the end that he lost the fight, if he could of kept up the pace i believe that he would of won the fight. Lewis avenged his loss but McCall still poleaxed him.

prime Holmes takes this. small chance of KO for Holmes to but in big fights I would think Lewis brings his A game.

How big of a douche you gonna be? Unlike you I have an open mind and like both sports just because your apparently feeble mind can't comprehend that doesn't mean you have to be a dick. Theres lots of people who enjoy and love both sports but I guess your elitest self can't understand that. Grow up, your like a damn middle schooler. Obviously if I didn't like boxing I wouldn't be here as it is BOXINGscene, smart one. But since I am it would be smart to assume I do. But then again I'm not expecting much of someone who likes to carry a grudge against people who like more than one thing.

he's right though, I look at MMa as the lower form. The "fun for friends to watch" kinda think. Not a sport you follow like boxing. Boxing is an art.

Whats the reach difference between the two? If LL has a pretty good reach advantage I think he takes it, if its equal or at least close I say Holmes outboxes him in a close UD.

Well thats fine, we have different opinions but you can express it without coming off as a complete a$$hole. Thats all that matters, but when you start spouting of saying crap like "Go watch cagefighting son, this is where the noble art is appreciated," thats just retarded. I obviously appreciate boxing a lot seeing as I watch the fights, learn stuff about the boxers and the sport, and take part in training. He just doesn't get you can like both.

Lennox has a slight reach advantage: 3". Lennox Lewis 84" reach, Larry Holmes 81" reach.

Holmes by decision for me in a tough fight. I rate a peak Holme's speed and skills and think that he may be a bit too slick and lively for Lennox.

I fear Sonnybox might actually agree with me on this one!

12 rounds it's close,15 rounds it's 10-5

I'd pick Holmes in a close decision. It'd be a boxing match all the way, and Holmes quickness advantage, both hand and foot would do the job for him imo.
