View Full Version : Hire Tyson, FIRE JONES! enadeus 02-19-2005, 10:37 PM How intelligent and insightful did tyson sound today in the pre fight interview. It was awesome. jack_the_rippuh 02-19-2005, 10:39 PM Rehire big George.. No-Mas 02-19-2005, 10:40 PM Yeah, Tyson was good, but intelligent? The word is obliterate...NOT OBLIVIATE! IwatchBoxing 02-19-2005, 10:42 PM How intelligent and insightful did tyson sound today in the pre fight interview. It was awesome.Fire one of those old guys, and hire Tyson, with Roy Jones :D . .::|ULTIMATE|::. 02-19-2005, 10:46 PM They should just hire George Foreman again. Its too bad Emmanuel Stewart is usually very busy he is usally a good commentator and he is not afraid to check merchant, lampley or even letterman. jedihillis 02-19-2005, 10:49 PM Wait what happened? Did Tyson make some kinda stupid stamement before hand or were you serioust that he actually sounded intelligent? The Fix 02-19-2005, 11:10 PM they should hire tyson.....to knockout larry merchant Neuraxis 02-20-2005, 12:05 AM I agree. I broke my back. dino 02-20-2005, 12:07 AM tyson "sounded" insightful but the **** he was saying didnt make sence..he said hopkins 14th title defense...he said taylor needs 5 more fights which are both wrong..no tyson dosent need to commentate..he needs to be a trainer Slipx 02-20-2005, 12:10 AM they should hire tyson.....to knockout larry merchant http://img190.exs.cx/img190/1872/merchantdrink9ni.jpg I've always liked larry merchants commentation, tonight I didn't get everything but after Taylor beat out Edouard, when Merchant got in the ring to interview Taylor, Eduoard was acting an ass and merchant sorta pushed him aside and started the interview...it made me laugh another funny thing that happened tonight was when Lampley and DLH were talking about when DLH comes back if he's going to be fighting the best, dlh said something to the effect of yeah, and then lampley goes "Well we saw what happened when you fought the best when you fought Hopkins" the look on Delahoya's face ROFL his smirk turned into a 'wtf are you clowning me on tv' look. lol Floydmayweather 02-20-2005, 12:16 AM tyson "sounded" insightful but the **** he was saying didnt make sence..he said hopkins 14th title defense...he said taylor needs 5 more fights which are both wrong..no tyson dosent need to commentate..he needs to be a trainer He said beating a fighter he new for his fourteenth defense he knew it was his 20th defense. He also had some other real good things to say. Stickman 02-20-2005, 12:22 AM I agree that Tyson seemed to have his brains (what few there may be) in his head tonight when he was interviewed, and actually seemed to know what he was talking about. And I say this because he agreed with me about Taylor needing more experience before meeting Hopkins. Whatever else Tyson may be, though, he does know his boxing history, and I've always admired his respect for those who've gone down in the sport's history, and his willingness to learn everything he can about them. Super_Lightweight 02-20-2005, 12:25 AM Mike Tyson has always been a great boxing historian. He used to be in documentaries with Larry Merchant and they would look at old fights and talk about them. I had one on tape. However, Roy is also very insightful and notices things in a fight that the older guys do not. He is a good commentator and Tyson probably would not be. Stickman 02-20-2005, 12:31 AM Mike Tyson has always been a great boxing historian. He used to be in documentaries with Larry Merchant and they would look at old fights and talk about them. I had one on tape. However, Roy is also very insightful and notices things in a fight that the older guys do not. He is a good commentator and Tyson probably would not be. The problem I have with Jones, is his constant self-promoting, and arrogance. As a commentator, you're supposed to be concerned with the fights you're covering, not reminding everyone of how great you are, were, or think you are/were. That, and his tendancy to mispronounce words, or use improper (or made up) adjectives when he's trying to sound intelligent. I think Roy is probably a pretty decent guy, but his presence on camera just irritates the **** out of me. I think Jermaine Taylor is far more intelligent, and his sense of humility during his interview after his decisive win was ****ing refreshing, BIG-TIME for me. His stock went up in my book, by about double. His stock went up in my book, by about double. lol...get over yourself, man. 'm going to have to rewind that tape for you. Taylor is no more intelligent or articulate than Roy, and Roy doesn't mispronounce words too often or misuse them. He does sometimes, but not a whole lot. Certainly not as much as George did. In any case, chill your ass out and stop the hatit'. It was awesome. That was a cool surprise from HBO to interview Iron Mike, his boxing knowledge is unreal. neils7147933 02-20-2005, 09:24 AM Tyson would be, to me, a welcome addition to ShoBox as a 3rd commentator. Farhood's a good boxing journalist/color guy, but Tyson's got personality that could jazz up some of the uglier fights when two guys with less than 10 fights are putting on a less-than-spectacular show. Stickman 02-20-2005, 09:24 AM lol...get over yourself, man. Ok, after watching it again....more intelligent? Maybe not, but definitely FAR more understandable, and humble. Roy Jones gets old with the "I'm the greatest" bull****, and talking about himself in the 3rd person. Not sure what "hatit" is....If you meant "Hating", I don't hate Roy, he just annoys the **** out of me, and I don't feel he has any business as a commentator. neils7147933 02-20-2005, 09:33 AM When you add a boxer to the telecast, you are getting some "in-ring" knowledge that comes off as more credible than an older broadcast journalist, you're appealing to fans who liked the guy when he fought, and you kind of get the "buddy" appeal that comes with inserting a little diversity to the commentating. Roy isn't all that good and neither is George. Mike Tyson would provide his own energy and charisma (or lack thereof) - Tyson fans and haters both are still interested by him - but even with all of his knowledge, he's going to say some silly things that you could add to the list that Foreman and Jones have contributed to. I think fans must like having the 3rd guy there. Chris Byrd could have a post-career future as a commentator as well. I would prefer to have Tyson be the 3rd guy on a non-championship telecast, or playing the Jim Gray part, adding some "sideline" insight, but not having a mic in front of him for the entire bout. I imagine there would be concerns about Mike's mental state and the shape he arrives to work in as well. Remember the champ on The Jimmy Kimmel show? Does HBO or Showtime (and forget him on broadcast or regular cable TV) trust him to be on his behavior when it's live? Mike Tyson Jr. 02-20-2005, 10:28 AM Tyson would be the best commentater because he knows a lot about boxing. and he aint hard to understand like jones is. Slipx 02-20-2005, 10:31 AM How intelligent and insightful did tyson sound today in the pre fight interview. It was awesome. you mean the part when he threw nine 'um' 's in a single sentence? sure he has a great boxing knowledge, but that's where the line is drawn. The commentators aren't paid for their history experience, they are paid for how they perform on camera, and tyson will never have the job george and roy had. it just isnt a possibility, sorry tyson jr Mike Tyson Jr. 02-20-2005, 10:34 AM you mean the part when he threw nine 'um' 's in a single sentence? sure he has a great boxing knowledge, but that's where the line is drawn. Me and my friend looked at each other and said "wtf? we actually understood!". I think he knows his boxing to the T but as far as everything else goes, I'll hold my comment. And bash RJJ does get ****y but I just laugh cuz he has reaosn to. The man was the Heavyweight Championship of the World lol no **** you'd be ****y. But lemme tell you, RJJ TELLS IT LIKE IT IS. No sugar coating, no nothing. This guys knows the mentality behind th game, knows EXACTLY whats going on, what the figters are thinking and he tells it straight. Mike Tyson Jr. 02-20-2005, 10:46 AM Slipx aint nothin but a hater anyway. Thats why I gave you bad karma. Slipx 02-20-2005, 11:01 AM yeah RJJ is the best commentator HBO has had thus far for three reasons he looks at the camera after he finishes speaking and smiles correctly, and doesnt stare down other commentators he doesnt stutter or say 'um' excessively he speaks from the heart. after what I heard last night, it sounded like we were hearing the real Roy. He was like "Bernard stayed in one division and he's the type of guy that can be happy with that. Me, that wasnt enough for me, and thats why I became heavyweight champion of the world- top of the mountain" roy will be there for a while if it keeps going that well MlLkMan 02-20-2005, 12:06 PM http://img190.exs.cx/img190/1872/merchantdrink9ni.jpg I've always liked larry merchants commentation, tonight I didn't get everything but after Taylor beat out Edouard, when Merchant got in the ring to interview Taylor, Eduoard was acting an ass and merchant sorta pushed him aside and started the interview...it made me laugh another funny thing that happened tonight was when Lampley and DLH were talking about when DLH comes back if he's going to be fighting the best, dlh said something to the effect of yeah, and then lampley goes "Well we saw what happened when you fought the best when you fought Hopkins" the look on Delahoya's face ROFL his smirk turned into a 'wtf are you clowning me on tv' look. lol hahahhaahahhahhaha nezahualcoyotl 02-20-2005, 12:10 PM http://img190.exs.cx/img190/1872/merchantdrink9ni.jpg I've always liked larry merchants commentation, tonight I didn't get everything but after Taylor beat out Edouard, when Merchant got in the ring to interview Taylor, Eduoard was acting an ass and merchant sorta pushed him aside and started the interview...it made me laugh another funny thing that happened tonight was when Lampley and DLH were talking about when DLH comes back if he's going to be fighting the best, dlh said something to the effect of yeah, and then lampley goes "Well we saw what happened when you fought the best when you fought Hopkins" the look on Delahoya's face ROFL his smirk turned into a 'wtf are you clowning me on tv' look. lol ****! i didn't catch that part lolz. RJJ kinda TOO egotistical in his demeanor especially after getting leaned back TWICE! George is the best man! He always contrasts well w/Merchant. "larry you dont know what a punch feels like, you've never been in the ring, so its easy for you talk about it, let alone BE about it" Kid Achilles 02-20-2005, 12:19 PM Roy Jones was never the champ; he won an alphabet title from Ruiz. Roy Jones was as much the heavyweight champion of the world as Lamon Brewster is today. |
