View Full Version : I have 3 days until my first amateur fight.....preperations?
Potential 07-23-2009, 08:50 AM Its thursday and the fight is on sunday night.
What do you usually do in the final week of your training camp?
I was thinking of doing some weight training today and have friday and saturday off, would this be appropriate?
My last boxing workout was on the wednesday
Squirrel 07-23-2009, 09:01 AM Weights could lead to injury or you not being 100% on the night, I wouldnt risk it.
Why not shadowbox and spend a lot of time stretching? Maybe do a few rounds on the bag?
At this stage you just want to tighten up your work, if you really feel the need to work at something, maybe some pressups and chins just to keep your strength up?
Joe Frazier 07-23-2009, 09:06 AM I've always been told not to do a single thing to the point of fatigue - especially in the last 4-5 days.
If you pull something in your shoulder, thigh, back now then it will screw you.
DON't overdo anything.
I don't know why but I like to do ropes on the days before fights...it relaxes me somewhat and I feel like it keeps me loose and bouncy.
Potential 07-23-2009, 09:18 AM well, im a regular weightlifter and helps me maintain my weight im currently.
I might do a light workout
Squabbles94806 07-23-2009, 09:58 AM Yeah, get your head straightened out. It's all mental. Relax mentally, so you can relax physically. Don't worry so much about winning or losing, rather focusing on your opponent and doing what you have to do.
It's going to be uncomfortable in there (i don't know how well you prepared), but stick to the game plan, don't panic, relax, and have fun.
It's showtime!! Go in there and show off to the crowd all the hard work that you put in. Good Luck.
Tu Pai 07-23-2009, 10:10 AM This is the time if you know anything about your opponent you go over that stuff and concentrate on your weaknesses.

Rockin' 07-23-2009, 06:38 PM just move around shadow boxing and such, dont just lay around dormant until fight night.
also try this, when your laying down to sleep envision what you want to do in that ring. picture the fight unfolding and how you'll react and work in there.
most of all, just stay mentally relaxed...............Rockin':boxing:
RightCross94 07-23-2009, 06:53 PM Start to relax mentally, visualise how you wanna do in the fight as you go to bed but dont overdo it. Just do a bit of sharp, fast shadowboxing (4-6 2 min rounds) and some sharp fast short sessions of pads if you can
and have the day before the fight off
and remember, no matter how nervous you are, he's just as nervous, remember that
Dynamite Glove 07-23-2009, 07:31 PM I'd think the most important thing is not letting the anxiety keep you up at night. if it does, I'd take a unisom or etc unless the fight was early in the morning. make sure you get a great night's rest..
RightCross94 07-25-2009, 08:39 AM and be CONFIDENT, dont get in the ring looking small and unconfident, get through the ropes, bounce around, put your hands in the air (dont overdo it) and feel strong and confident
and remember to enjoy fighting in there, you do boxing because you enjoy it right? so get in there and enjoy yourself, be relaxed, keep your technique, move around, dont get drawn into a slug out, and do your best
i myself have experienced bad nerves before a bout and know many others who go through the same thing, but if you just stay calm and enjoy yourself, you feel better and can perform well.
And remember a small bit of controlled nervousness is good, you feel sharper, more alert and your reaction times etc are increased. good luck
