Jr featherweight Celestino Caballero claimed an IBF title shot with a unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Daniel Ponce De Leon. Caballero (21-2, 15 KOs) used his 6-inch height advantage to pick Ponce De Leon (24-1, 23 KOs) apart early on, but the wild-swinging Ponce De Leon began conecting with punishing body shots in round three. Both fighters landed bombs the next round with De Leon snapping Caballero's head back with a left hook. Caballero wasn't through though, as he continued spearing De Leon with hard shots from the outside. Caballero was credited with a knockdown in round eight when De Leon's glove touched the canvas and he continued busting up De Leon's features over the next few rounds. Both traded punches in an exciting toe-to-toe twelfth round. Scores were 118-109, 115-112, 117-110.
GREAT FIGHT!

Thanks for the info.
Like i've posted before, I think de Leon is a few steps below championship caliber. I even think he doesn't have what it takes to become a champ, given his wide-punching style.

**** pissed me off
he wasnt even using the right hand until like the 6th round
his corner is fukin awful
they didnt know what to tell him
how he should get in close
and how to try to neutralize the guys height advantage
all they said is
do some thin
whats wrong
i dont think this will set him back too far
i mean it was a tought fight
bigger longer guy
maybe he should go for a rematch after couple fights
i dont think he should go strait for the rematch
Ponce get rid of your useless corner

lol,no problem man.
This was just an exciting fight. When Caballero had the lead,I was holding my breath hoping he didnt get caught because he took alot of risks which left his chin there to get clocked. His chin and punching power are both pretty solid for a fighter of his height at that particular weight class.

It was an exciting fight, but I'm not too sure about that knockdown. It was definitely debatable and I'm not sure the ref made the right call. It looked a lot like he just lost his balance and slipped to me. Not that it mattered in the end.
I hated the Panamanian. He was a dick, trash-talking at the end of every round, taunting, just being an overall scrotum-licker. You're quite correct, though, he has a lotta the right tools to succeed. But don't blame me if I hope Israel Vasquez knocks him out.

ohh sh_t, I was hoping to see Juan Ponce De Leon banging with the big boys, now it will be a lot harder and longer for me to see him fight again
but maybe he really needs the time to polish up on his skills, to have a better shot at the big time, I hate to see a puncher like that get wasted...

I watched a couple of ponce's previous fights and i wasn't really impressed. I picked him to win but him losing is no big suprise to me.

This loss may (but probably won't) be a good thing for him. He is a puncher. Not a boxer/puncher. He really needs to polish up his skills so he can win rounds as well as try to take the guy out. He just seems too intent on KOing the guy and doesn't take the time to plan out his shots and move and slip to make sure that he doesn't lose the round while trying to do that. He is a great puncher and is fun to watch. This is definitely not the last time we will see him. Did you see Caballero's neck snap back when he got clocked with the hooks and straights? Damn that guy has a chin!
