Affliction Entertainment Vice President Tom Atencio confirmed Wednesday to Sherdog.com that Josh Barnett has been pulled from an Aug. 1 matchup against Fedor Emelianenko.

The fight was scheduled to headline Affliction and M-1 Global’s “Trilogy” event at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., but Atencio said that the California State Athletic Commission will not license Barnett because he has tested positive for a banned substance. The CSAC will release a statement Wednesday.

Atencio also said he hopes to secure a replacement Wednesday but would not comment on the new matchup until a deal is signed.

Sherdog.com reported Tuesday that Vitor Belfort has agreed in principle to face Fedor, according to two separate sources close to the negotiations. Bobby Lashley is also being considered, among others, but Tuesday night he denied knowing anything about replacing Barnett.

That's terrible. I have been wanting to see this fight for years.

I wonder if Barnett tested positive for steroids. Would be a shame if true but it's happened before.

Vitor vs Fedor is not too interesting. Belfort was actually having a decent comeback attempt but I figure it'll be all over for him when he loses to Fedor.

Well, we do know for a fact now that Barnnett indeed tested possitive for a banned substance.

We don't know what that substance is though, or anything else really.

A teleconference with Antencio and company is scheduled for 5 minutes from now. We should know more soon.

We also know he got popped on an off-site.

We also know it took CSAC three weeks to inform anyone about this.

We can say it's steroid, but I don't know. Barnett was way too confident that he was clean before the news. If you knew the **** was going to hit the fan on an off-site, you'd fake an injury or something at least.

From Dave Meltzer

Contrary to original reports, Barnett said his June 25th drug test that came up positive was not part of California's new random out of competition testing. It was a test on a day Barnett himself chose as part of his licensing procedure in the state as his license had expired. ....

The California State Athletic Commission had previously released that Barnett was the first person to take an out of competition drug test, saying he performed a test in front of a commission inspector and he was given 48 hours notice to show up for the test. The commission said Barnett was surprised by the call from the office but came the next day after the call and complied with the test.

If I was Gary Shaw, I'd put Kimbo in there with Fedor. Screw TUF.

:lol1:

According to Meltzer, Brett Rogers is one of the possible opponents for Fedor that they're considering.

And then try to bribe Fedor to keep it standing because all that ground **** is for f.aggots.

Bloody Elbow (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2009/7/22/958205/tom-atencio-does-not-announce)

On today's Affliction: Trilogy conference call, Tom Atencio said "this has been a complete surprise to us. If the results (of Barnett's test) stand, we are deeply disappointed."

Beau Dure asked if Josh Barnett's test could be overturned. It was Atencio's understanding that the CSAC had taken two samples and are now testing the second sample provided at the initial testing.

****

Ariel Helwani asked what banned substance Barnett tested positive for. Atencio does not know.

Barnett got popped for Clostebol (http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2009/7/22/958359/questions-arise-about-josh)

God, are the inquests going to be a farce.

Why are the going to replace him with Vitor Belfort?
Makes nooo sense. A middleweight? Give em Lashley.

Wow... Josh really ****ed up. He lost track of his cycling.

Clostebol is a steroid. I hope this comes with a long ban...

For those who don't know... This is the third or fourth time that Barnett doesn't make a Fedor fight. He declined once in pride, once in affliction already, then was "injured" for another pride date, now this.

It's clear that Barnett has BEEN scared of Fedor forever. *sigh...

This could have been Fedor's third top ten heavyweight thrashing in a row.

Josh Barnett, :nutkick:

It's Drostanolone. It got corrected. Sorry.

If it was Clostebol, they'd have a hell of a time backing it up.

Dros on the other hand is airtight. If his second sample comes up positive, he's ****ed.

I just heard a report on Barnett being pulled from the card on a radio news break:wtf:

I've never heard an MMA news piece, and rarely a boxing news piece on mainstream radio news. It was Air America by the way, but just a regular news break, as many stations have.

They said that Barnett had been pulled from the card, but that Fedor will still face a stiff challenge in Anaheim, or some ****. It's nice to hear the mainstream press covering it, actually. Though it may be simply due to the Barnett story.

I guess, the old antage comes to mind: 'no press is bad press.'

I cant believe this, i always saw Barnett as Fedors toughest challenge. We will never see it now.

I think Josh Barnett may not get another chance with one off the bigger mma companies again.

Small prediction here, i recon he will end up fighting on a uk promotion in the next 2 years. Something like Cage Gladiators or Cage Rage.
