Pretty crazy stuff, the kid is now officially the most hyped man in Hip Hop. 22 years old making that kinda money with those rights? Loco.

That's cool, I guess...

I don't get the hype around this kid, though. There are plenty of young, new school cats that are better than him.

^I agree. I think he is talented and is capable of making hit records. but I think there are better rappers out there than him.

He had great management, was with Wayne during his peak of populartiy.. got a co sign basically from all the major industry stars (Jay, Wayne, Kanye, etc) and released on of the biggest tracks of the summer. It was a combo of great timing and having a crazy following before a record deal.

Yeah I like that "best i ever had" song myself. I think Drake is very talented and does deserve to be star. Another thing I like about him is he seems like a genuine person.

How much of a loser am I that the only thing I care about this article is if they're going to write him out of Degrassi?

One factor that was left out is that his audience is comprised of A LOT OF WOMEN!!!

I went to the last show in NYC they had here and when that dude went on stage, *****es went wild!

It was a no brainer really...dude was making $16G's a show WITHOUT a major.

Good for him. Drake is the truth and I'm kind of excited to see what he does next. As for the deal, he's not a stupid kid and all the major labels were after him so at the negotiation table he had some big ass bargaining chips. The kid could have came out independent and blew the **** up.

I think he is written out. He went for Stem Cell research.. no chance in hell a 2 million dollar rapper now comes back haha. Plus I don't see the show moving on past next season, they have lost everyone.

He has a catchy flow and he can sing, not many rappers have all that in their books. I mean, actually sing, not sound like it.

Crazy thing is, is when Wayne came here for the concert earlier in the year, not many ppl in the crowds even knew who he was. Crazy how a few months change.

I hate that dudes like this get such a lucky break and amazingly talented guys like Lupe don't sell nowhere near as much as they should and eventually fade out never becoming the superstars they deserve to be

meh i dont know about the genuine part...
i mean i back him because he's catchy and from toronto but i have seen him casually in person many a time and he doesn't seem like the most authentic individual. but then again it would be very difficult to not let all the fame go to your head...there is a common misconception in the mainstream world that rappers should be ****y, but i don't really back that. confidence is different from arrogance and i back humility pretty hard.
good for him though. quite the success story. 22 and making all that paper. glad he's putting toronto on the map, like i said, but i agree that there are other new school cats out there who are miles more talented than drake. drake is a commercial artist though...he's in a different category than the artists that i would consider better. when it comes to new rappers in the mainstream, i would say he's pretty damn close to the top. but then again the mainstream is generally garbage...

for an artist who started in the underground though, Lupe has certainly gotten some serious mainstream shine. he saw a pretty significant amount of fame, let's be honest here...i would call him quite the success story as well.

LOL, I hate when videos like that say "freestyle" when the rapper is reading off of his blackberry, and yeah Drake's nothin' special in my opinion, he's decent, though.
