View Full Version : DREAM looked like PRIDE in it's heyday last night.

After rewatching DREAM 10 I have to say that it was like I was watching a PRIDE show all over again.

Other than Aoki/Vitor every fight was great to watch.

The tourney was what I love about PRIDE when it was around. In one night you have an organization's talent pool freshened up with the performances of Jason High in getting past Galvao in a reall entertaining match and more impressively Marius Zaromskis putting on the best tournament performance I've seen since Shogun in 2005.

Fighters like Marius are great for MMA. He's the underdog in the tournament going up against the favourite in the first fight and instead of being sensible and try to get through the night racking up decisions, he comes out guns blazing throwing caution to the wind with flying knees galore, showing solid technique in all areas, and cappng it all off with 2 highlight reel KO's in one night. Gotta love it.

My favourite show so far this year.

Don't post there a lot anymore, too many fools on there.

do you like mma better than boxing?

Like them both. If there's a fight on I'll be watching.

I haven't seen the event as I was at the river all weekend, but I'm definitely going to check it out now. I haven't read the posts because I don't want it to be spoiled. I will say that as far as the Pride comparison goes, MMA in Japan is for real, and it is there to stay. People don't often realize that martial arts flows in the blood of the Japanese.

man , i was so jealous of the japanese when they use to hold like 3 events on the same night at new years.

pride , k-1 and inoki bom-ba-ye would all hold 3 events at once and i think all 3 was on free tv/cable too.

Actually it's not. Dream Stage Entertainment ran Pride. Dream replaced Heroes as K-1's MMA branch

It's the people who promoted Heros, FEG, who decided to reform it as DREAM, only a few PRIDE execs were brought on.

I'd say so. The commentary on HDNet with Schiavello and Mezger was excellent. Schiavello's play-by-play to Mezger's analysis is very good.

Yeah I agree with this for the most part. Schiavello and Mezger seem pretty good together.

I love how Mezger discredits the Japanese in general. Lot of hate built up in that guy.

And.

Dream > WEC >>>> UFC.

Is there any medical status on Jason High or anything?

It might be the ring or the whole atmosphere.... it gives a touch of class.

UFC with the octagon is more....er....old school looking?? Not that its a bad thing.

It's actually FEG who run these operations. The execs of DSE were brought once the company had dissolved. So essentially it is a combined effort but with FEG as the parent company. It's still like Hero's since most of the talent was Hero's talent and the majority of PRIDE talent has gone elsewhere. The only difference is the fact that there will be a title in each weight class like PRIDE and they have more weight classes available compared to Hero's original 2 weight classes and PRIDE's 4 weight classes.

He got up a few minutes after he was KO'ed and got on the mic to congratulate Marius. He seemed fine.

I'm really pulling for Dream. I hope Dream does become as big as Pride was.

I hope so, i like the UFC events a lot but PRIDE was something special. Something needs to fill that gap, hopefully DREAM will.

Was a real good event! I use to watch Zaromskis in Cage Rage and lemme tell ya, i would never have picked him to take out Sakurai let alone win a tournament. Kikuno's just gets more and more badass every time i see him fight, and with this he just solidified himself as a top 20 lightweight...which is actually pretty impressive to say considering how stacked the lightweight division is. It's unfortunate Dong had to go out that way but ah well...the Aoki fight was boring, but i was kinda expecting it to be...usually when two very good grapplers are matched up you rarely get a clinic(Imanari vs. Fernandes)

but for the record, i still like Sengoku more than DREAM

Same here. This victory makes Che Mills look even better than I already thought he was, in turn making James Wilks look even better.

yeah, no kidding man. I'd love to see any of these guys get picked up by a big promotion soon. They have the skill to make it up there, they just need the step up in competition.

If people haven't seen Dream before, they need to go check out Dream 3 and 5 which was the LW tourney. Those two were definitely the best. Especially 5 since you get to see Aoki get beatdown.
