View Full Version : Ruiz is underrated
bobbyjones 02-16-2005, 07:16 PM its time that we admitted that John Ruiz as much as we hate it is one of the best heavyweights out here right now. I recently read something on the is roy jones overrated thread that said Ruiz is a bum but it just isnt true. Ruiz has beat most of the contenders out there and he seems to always be able to find a way to win

Yeah, by hugging his opponet to death!
ottoevans 02-16-2005, 07:21 PM yeah he is one of the best, but that doesnt say anything when you got fighters like Brewster who got murdered and won a title, You got fat ass Peters as a contender where he beat bums like Yanqui Diaz in a phone booth. You also have fighter uve been KO out the ring in Rahaman and Monte Barret who beat sum random guy and becomes #1 contender. The only good Heavyweight are Golota, Byrd and Vitali. and Golota is retarted (alhtought he seems to be cured) which will never win because Don King is his promoter. Bryd is not even in the same leagues as Vitali. Vitali is the best fighter we've had since Lewis (proably would beat Lewis)
Warrior Spirit 02-16-2005, 07:25 PM Okay, he is one of the top heavyweights but that speaks to a couple of reasons. Firslty he cheats, plain and simple he cheats. He had 190 clinches in his last fight and that worthless fat **** Randy Neuman didn't do ****. You can't hold excessively and Ruiz makes the word excesseively seem like an understatement. Looked what happened when he was in with Jay Nady when he fought Jones a referee who didn't let him cheat. He got ****ing thumped by Jones. When Ruiz can't clinch all the time he gets beat.
He is also a top HW because the HW division is a ****ing disgace.
Bottomline is that Ruiz is winninng because he is allowed to cheat. When he can't hold, he is pretty much worthless...
jack_the_rippuh 02-16-2005, 07:35 PM He's not really underrated compared to any of the heavyweight champs.
Everyone in the heavyweight division is rated just about right.
Byrd was underrated when he was better than he is now, though..
Vitali is the man to beat, because he's probably the king of the heavyweights right now, but he sucks too (look how he fights..)
Brewster...I don't know **** about him, but he can't be that good..
Marjoh 02-16-2005, 07:44 PM How can anyone even think he's the BEST when he hug more than he fights. That's BS. After all, this is boxing. Tell it to his face to box more and he would pause because he simply can't. Remember he promise to put on a show before the Golota bout? He tried but he was outboxed by Golota and couldn't keep his words. Most of the fighters out there, including below average one, could simply do what he does and be successful. But their pride won't let them to be humiliated.
QueenCity 02-16-2005, 07:51 PM I guess Ruiz is underrated, but hes been in some of the most boring & unteresting fights in the history of the sport so I just can like the guy that much.
Marjoh 02-16-2005, 07:52 PM BTw, it's hard to believe anything he says about boxing when he doesn't even know anything about it outside the ring. And I think for good reason; I don't think he can handle all the stuff about him in the media and the boxing community. But I wish he should at least watch boxing fights.
borikua 02-16-2005, 07:53 PM Ruiz is just boring as hell...He should be banned from televised boxing.

John Ruiz is ass. He is a bum. The first time he fights and a referee penalizes him for his man hugging (which yes, it is illegal), he's going to get KTFO. Watch his fight against David Tua. Ruiz is average. Jones made him look like he didnt belong being a professional boxer. His only way to win is to punch and clinch. Excessive clinching is illegal. In his fight against Golota, Ruiz had MORE CLINCHES than PUNCHES LANDED. Sorry, but you are wrong. Ruiz is not underrated. He shouldnt be rated at all.

WORD, the manlover is a bum among bums
Warrior Spirit 02-16-2005, 08:50 PM To say that John Ruiz is a disgrace is an insult to the word disgrace.
jayschre 02-16-2005, 08:52 PM The only reason John "the cure for Insomnia" Ruiz is still champion is plain and simple DON KING!!!!!!! The guy can't imo be called a true champion, even though he has held onto a title like it's an opponent of his in a fight.
**** him, **** his manager/trainer Norman Stone, and especially **** Don King for letting this joke stay champ!!!!!!!!
bobbyjones 02-16-2005, 09:00 PM Im not syaing that he is a "good" champion but he stilld eserves more respect than he gets because lets face it, the guy still scrapes out wins. Perfect example was the Oquendo fight where i think i ahd him down in teh fight before the knockout which let him win yet again. Hes not fun to watch and hes not a great boxer but he wins and he needs credit for that.
More to the point, the guys that beat him deserve credit for their wins, like Roy Jones, because they are still ebating a very difficult fighter to beat.

Yes indeed. Norman Stone is a joke. Who was it that KO'd him at a press conference a lil while back? That was classic. Dude was layin on the ground pretending to be unconcious so he wouldnt get hit again. L O ****ing L
jayschre 02-16-2005, 09:06 PM wasn't that Alton Merkerson or what ever Roy Jones' trainers name is!

haha yea that was a pretty funny one...I always thought that Norman Stone was sort of a counterintuitive choice for a guy whose nickname was "the quiet man"

That's just it. He makes every body look bad, and not in a good way. Sure he may be winning against Oquendo before the TKO, but he did it not by boxing, but by hugging him to death, PERIOD. And that is why nobody in their right mind respect the guy. As I said before, this is boxing, not the MMA or Wrestling, PERIOD.
Vincent Gottschalk 02-16-2005, 09:13 PM Ruiz is a true spoiler, I have never seen someone who can make so many good fighters look bad in my life...p.s. He makes himself look even worse. But the nightmare is almost over Tony, Vitali orByrd will end it within the year.

THRILLAinmanila 02-16-2005, 09:18 PM Ruiz should be fighting Sumo wrestlers in Japan instead
QueenCity 02-16-2005, 09:23 PM Ruiz should be fighting Sumo wrestlers in Japan instead
he should do anything but box, If I was forced to choose between the gass chamber and having to watch a John Ruiz fight marathon--- I'd almost have to go with the gass chamber. I mean any career change the man takes would get all thumbs up from me.
MetalVomit 02-16-2005, 09:32 PM Ruiz should be fighting Sumo wrestlers in Japan instead
Ruiz should not be a prizefighter.

The only reason he's difficult to beat is cause he holds so much. Against Jones the ref. didnt allow that and he lost.
I may be alone on this, but to me just winning isnt the whole picture..its also HOW you win. Just 'scraping' out a victory thru hugging/holding and frustrating your opponet by not fighting like a man is not good enough for me. I prefer to watch an actual boxer and/or a boxer-puncher..not a hugger.
With so many people disliking his "style", that alone makes a statement..so many people cant be wrong!

RJJ could have fought Byrd, a preSanders Wlad, Lewis, or Ruiz. He chose Ruiz. Enough said.
unless you think that i rate my own grandma over ruiz he aint underrated.
he is a good wrestler, an exellent hugger but...... he is the worse boxer ever too hold a belt.
