Ali, James Corbett, Jake LaMotta, Joe Louis and Max Schmeling.....we have seen films made about these guys. Now in production apparently is a film about James Braddock starring Russell Crowe.

What other boxers throughout history should have a movie made about them? Who should get to play them?

Oh yeah, they made movies about Jack Johnson and Dempsey too.....I forgot.

I think a few good ones would be....

Harry Greb (Played by an unknown, noone is ugly enough)
Stanley Ketchel (See above)
Bendigo (VInny Jones)

Its kinda hard to make a movie on a boxer considering not all boxer careers have been exciting. They need to make movies on boxers with a unique character which would actually grab the attention from people. For eg. Ali was intimidating, funny, great boxer, and his career was all over the place. You dont get many of those boxers so makin a movie on a boxer would be challenging. But IF i could pick what boxer they should make a movie on, Id say Naseem Hamed, but not now, like 20 years later.
Mike tyson maybe?

There is a HBO movie about Mike tyson it's not bad, the guy from Spawn plays iron mike, he's got the voice down and everything...thre's even a guy in it playing Teddy Atlas but because he's an actor he speaks much better - there's no " Dat beard iz a cushion!"

I know HBO made a movie about Tyson but I think one should be about him again only this time have it be a major motion picture.

I also think a movie about Evander Holyfield would be good as well.

a major motion pic about Tyson would have to show Teethson vs. Holyear

MIchael Jai White played Mike Tyson?

Yeah he sure did, and he did a pretty good job. Looking at him from behind when he was in the ring, you could not tell the differnece between him and the real Tyson

and when he spoke, it was creepy, i thought it was mike tyson, If he'd said " I'm gonna take a bite out of you! " it'd be downright scary

Why does Hopkins have a strange, unpoetic nickname?

In general I'm not really a big fan of movies made about boxers still living, such as The Mike Tyson story starring Michael Jai White and the Ali movie with Will Smith(totally sucked). But I'm totally open to the idea of having another Boxing movie w/ a fictional character or another Rocky movie and the leading role goes to Vin Diesel.

They should make a movie about George Foreman. This is a guy coming from Houston, TX who was a juvenile delinquent who saw a commercial for Job Corps, got an education, became an Olympic Gold Medalist for the USA, won the heavyweight championship. He retired for 10 years and against all odds became heavyweight champ again at 45. I would say Ving Raimes would have to play him. Another vote would be for Mike Tyson, although I believe there was an HBO movie that came out when I was 5 or something.

On FNF earlier this year, he said they were in the process of doing that. He said it was supposed to come out early next year. The worst boxing movie was "Between The Ropes", about James Toney.

Damn....nobody named SAAD MUHAMMAD ?

He was abandoned at the age of five, on the Bejamin Franklin Parway in Philly, by an older sibling. The sibling was acting on orders from the parent(s).
He was raised in an orphanage, run by nuns. They only knew him as "Matt", & gave him the last name "Franklin" because of where he was found.

He went on to become quite possibly the most exciting fighter in boxing history.

AARON PRYOR! The man was a delinquent who got out of trouble with the help of boxing. He used to fight in Europe as a teen amateur, his family didn't even know he was gone. He overcame the odds as a pro, overcame crack, and is now a successful minister. What a movie that would make!

that movie just took the idea of a woman manager and turned it into a movie. It really had no truth to it. not a biography at all.

A true Toney movie would be excellent.

Frankie Duarte. I know someone else here will remember him. He was a bantamweight during the eighties who fought his heart out every time out. He loved the fans, and that was it. Unfortunately, he became as addicted to heroin as he was to the crowd's love. He took a break for about three years, came back better than ever. He capped off his comeback run with a win over Alberto Davila, who had stopped him in five previous to his layoff. Although he ended up with a spotty record, he deserves a lot more respect than he has, and deserves a feature film as much as any other boxer.

The movie about Jack Dempsey, called, "Dempsey" creatively enough, sucked. I was hugely disappointed to see the half-assed, low budget schlock they turned out, and even more distressed at seeing Treat ****ing Williams play the Mauler.

I wouldn't be suprised if, in a few years, after he retires, they make a movie about De La Hoya. The issues with his father, his Grammy, and his sexy woman would make it a "life outside the ring"-type movie. PLus, who knows whats to come in the next few years with him. Imagine what will happen to the guy when he starts losing all the time, and loses all his fans...

i'd like to see films made about Ketchel and Greb, they both had tragic lives, came up from the bottom, fought hard, died young
