View Full Version : Where did all the Gracies go?
The1God 02-16-2005, 09:27 AM It seemed as though the Gracies were going to rule the UFC, then when they started tightening the rules in the UFC the Gracies seemed to have disapeared. Severn vs. Hoyce Gracie was an intense match. I always wanted a rematch between them. Just wondering if anybody knows if they still compete and if they do, where? Is the Gracie camp what it once was?
Mr. Beelzebub 02-16-2005, 09:38 AM There is an MMA organization in Japan called Pride and REnzo, Ryan, and many other Gracies have fought there. Royce and Royler have recently fought for K-1 MMA.
Rodrigo Gracie also fought and lost a decision to BJ Penn. The Gracies are still around but they're no longer a "force" in the sport. Sakuraba beat Royce, Renzo and Ryan, Genki Sudo TKOd Royler.
puppy_dogg 02-16-2005, 09:42 AM i heard that royce gracie was the only guy to go undefeated in mma. excuse my ignorance :o , just wondering about the fact.

Royce Gracie lost to Sakuraba in a 6-15 min round fight that is one of the most amazing fights in history. Yes, it got kind of boring, but they fought for an hour and a half. Thats going to happen.
Mr. Beelzebub 02-16-2005, 09:46 AM I just posted Sakuraba beat him. It was a 90 minute fight where Royce's corner threw in the towel at the end.

Yeah, but Sakuraba tapped :D
Mr. Beelzebub 02-16-2005, 10:00 AM You're suppose to tap 3 times... Twice is just teasing.
Dejavu, I feel like I am at SD.
How would have Bruce Lee done in MMA?
GeNeRaL 02-16-2005, 10:14 AM The Gracies started UFC and they made their name from this and Gracie challenges. They'd walk into a martial arts school and challenge anyone and tap people out left and right. No one worked a ground game in the USA so no one knew what to do. Martial arts evolved, people saw how important and effective a ground game is, how punching someone doesn't always work, and the MMA world was re-defined. Th reason they arent the best anymore in MMA is simply because now you have everyone training in their art, so they cant just walk in and own someone with it.
Most of the older gracies spend the majority of their time doing seminars and raking in bucks nowadays, but there are many active ones fighting in various organizations, other than the UFC.

You haven't heard the last of the Gracies at any rate.
