Hey all first time posting in this section and theres alot of good stuff here..Anyways heres my question.
What are you focused on while fighting?
Meaning what are you looking at while your gaurd is up and your in your stance. Feet(footwork), arms, opponents eyes, etc etc..I ask because ive heard some people say dont you dont actually see the punch your suppose to throw you just feel it and just know which i agree with somewhat..I remember when i first sparred with someone who could actually fight i was trying to see the punches too much and was too hesistant which made me very slow..Since then ive made adjustments but I just wanted to know what some of the more seasoned guys had to say.

I wouldn't say that I'm seasoned - but I've taken some hard hits and had some tough sessions.
I watch the hands mostly and I'm usually trying to be conscious about anticipating with my own hands.
You're right though - you need to feel the punch, you can't think about it too much or you end up missing opportunities...you just need to rely on the training taking over and you instinctively knowing what to do.

watch the elbows, they move only a fraction of the speed the hands do

look your opponent right in the center of his chest, never take your eyes from that area. You will see everything that you need to see, his hands, his feet, his hip everything.
with seeing punches coming it just takes some time and some lumps to pick them up, actually alot of time and lumps. The only ones who will get this are the ones that keep showing up, time and again.
with defending blows with out even seeing them, its true it happens. Its like the lab rat and the light bulb. Every time you turn on this lightbulb the rat will be electrically shocked and it will jump from the current. Do this to the rat 100's and 1000's of times and eventually you can turn the light on with no electric shock to the rat and it will still jump. Get hit by a right hand and your under the hook with out even thinking, same thing............Rockin':boxing:

Haha basically.
But I too look at the center of the chest. You can't really throw a punch without moving your chest and thats why I look there. Also you can see everything else from that point. Also at times I try to see their tendencies or habits.

I'm thinking about seting him up, to hit him with a hard clean punch.

My main focus is range, paterns/habbits and openings. One of the reason I'm glad that my dad drilled in certain things to me from a young age is that I don't have to focus on it.
You shouldn't really focus on your keeping your hands up and being in stance that should really be natural so you can focus on the more important things. That's how I see it anyway.
