View Full Version : Randy Couture-Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
Nodogoshi 07-17-2009, 06:49 AM Vote and respond.
Personally, I've been favoring Couture all along, however Couture is one of my favorite fighters (I don't have many) so I feel like my perspective is biased.
On paper, you have a 16-9 46-year-old in Couture against a 31-5-1 33-year-old in Nogueira.
On the other hand, Nogueira has been in absolute wars, and he seems to have slipped a bit. His ring age is higher than Couture's despite Couture having fought professionally for 2 more years (Couture debuted in '97, Nog. in '99).
Prime for prime, I would have to go with Nogueira by submission, however currently I am leaning towards Couture by decision.

krazyn8tive 07-17-2009, 09:01 AM great. two senior citizens fighting for table scraps. woo-hoo
Move BRICKS™ 07-17-2009, 10:42 AM Nogueira without staph infection wins via Decision or Submission - However, don't expect Couture to make it easy for anyone.
Mr. Beelzebub 07-17-2009, 05:28 PM Funny how some dumb **** in here calls Nogueira a senior citizen when Anderson Silva is older than him.

you would never guess looking at their faces
Nog is only 32 or 33, but his body about 49 at this point
Big Nog is one my of my favorites ever, so i hope he pulls off the submission, but them wars have taken their toll
Brian13 07-17-2009, 06:28 PM Wheres the Don't care option

I left that option out, as it is not particularly relavent to the discussion.
The Gully Gad 07-17-2009, 07:01 PM Nog Looks like his in his mid 40's cant believe the dude is that young..
Anyhow Couture for me....
I hope he wins it anyway...
vinnie7731 07-17-2009, 07:06 PM after watching the mir/nog fight, i have to go with couture by decision. i think he ties him up in the clinch and uses his dirty boxing skills as rogan calls it.
either way, i like both fighters and they have done alot for the sport so either guy winning is ok with me
kswizzy99 07-17-2009, 07:09 PM if Big Nog goes for the ground fighting then I pick Nog by decision.
I am really pulling for Nog in this fight.
GroundSt.Pound 07-17-2009, 07:20 PM If you thought GSP/Alves was boring wait until you see this 3 round Clinchfest from hell

well that all depends on if big nog and couture actually attempt to pull some submissions or just jostle for position on the ground.
it won't be that bad if you know what to expect. like I will look for both fighters to try and submit each other so it won't be that boring. but if someone is looking for some exciting striking, then they will be bored out of their minds.

I expect submission attempts from Big Nog. I expect GnP from Couture. With that said, those two styles kinda cancel each other out. One looking for leverage(passing guard), the other looking to keep guard and get a kimura or something. :dunno:
I wont be watching this fight. lol

I'll tell you what to expect. Couture won't want anything to do with the ground game of Nogueira, he's too slick on the ground and Randy being down there is just playing with fire.
So Couture will be content with pressing Nogueira up against the cage for 3 rounds and doing his dirty boxing thing and Nogueira will be constantly trying to pull guard or take him down which won't work.
Expect Andre Winner vs. Ross Pearson... but even more boring.....Like 10x as boring

I find Couture's style to be exciting, personally. Not over-the-top exciting, but entertaining to watch nonetheless. Also I have never personally seen a dull fight involving Noguiera.

Styles make fights and this fight, on paper will almost certainly be a snoozer.

Yeah man you're definitely right in that styles make fights.
Even so, my thoughts on Couture is that while he may have had some dull fights earlier in his career, he has in my opinion developed an entertaining fight style, despite being a grinder.
Anyways, you may be right on your predictions man. I'm still holding out hope for an entertaining clash.
kymira 07-20-2009, 08:04 PM I voted Nog by Sub. Hopefully he can pull the old "anaconda choke" out of the old pride bag.
This fight wont be boring at all. Couture always comes to fight he's not a lay and pray guy.
Its gonna be an exciting fight because if they are both healthy. Randy is gonna whoop Big Nog's a$$ for a good 14 minutes, slam him, take him down, ground and pound, then in the final minute Randy's gonna leave a finger nail wide open and Nog's gonna latch on an armbar and we call all go back to believing he's Luke Skywalker once again

Kessler vrs froch will be a great fight, il be trying my hardest to get a ticket for that fight for sure :boxing:
phallus 07-20-2009, 11:22 PM i don't feel good when i think about this fight, Nog is older in ring years, he's taken more beatings than randy. prime for prime Nog chokes randy unconscious, but i get a bad feeling just thinking about this fight because Nog is my favorite hw because of his amazing heart, but i'm sure i'll be seeing randy use his dirty boxing to beat down and knock Nog out
Juggernaut 07-21-2009, 01:08 AM I like Nog, but I have a funny feeling Randy is going to pull a Mir on Nog. I just can't picture Nog improving his standup that much since his fight with Mir.
