FistoftheDallasStar 11-21-2004, 10:26 PM In his prime Tyson could shift his weight effortlessly and be in position to land some devestating punches. Without a doubt he is faster than Dempsey. Just look at some of Tysons early fights and compare them to Dempsey. Argentina 11-21-2004, 11:17 PM IN order to come in with the full fledged attack mentality and not ever get knocked out coming in, his footwork must have been very fast, and indeed it was. I would have to rank him very, very high on the all time list of footwork, and in terms of coming in, probably the best. (in heavyweight) SonnyG8R 11-21-2004, 11:24 PM Hard to tell. The old footage is inconclusive. Tyson had to be one of the quickest coming forward though. A freakin machine in his young prime. QueenCity 11-21-2004, 11:32 PM back in the 80's he was just like a train comming at you. I don't know if he was the fastest moving forward, but his combo of speed and power was deadly. Keleneki 11-22-2004, 06:45 AM Prime Tyson definitely was one of the fastest, if not the fastest ever when coming forward. Along with his great balance, upper body movement and blistering combinations, he was nigh unstoppable. catskills23 11-22-2004, 06:57 PM I heard jack dempsey use to fight up on his toes at times is that true ? . Xecutioner 11-22-2004, 09:02 PM http://gigabitadult.com/sites/y/yoyo21/tyson.htm ^ nice clip of tyson highlights, especially the defensive ones. he ducks an uppercut lol  catskills23 11-23-2004, 09:06 AM I heard jack dempsey used to box on his toes at time . Is that true ? . WinkyFan 11-23-2004, 09:23 AM I have no idea about Jack Dempsey but i do know that Tyson was very quick coming forward on his feet. The thing that made Tyson even more lethal was his ability to get maximum potential out of a punch while coming forward. That takes alot of doing without losing balance or power. He always kept his speed and his power. jabsRstiff 11-23-2004, 09:28 AM No doubt.....no heavyweight in history moved forward as quickly as did prime-time Tyson. This was every bit as important to him as was his punching power. Imagine what it was like for his opponents ? Having that fire breathing block of granite come in underneath you that quickly, & bringing up those powerhouse combos ? I think you'd rather have a dude standing in front of you with a .44 magnum ! t_tsuguri 11-23-2004, 05:29 PM Tyson had freak speed... dempseyfire 11-23-2004, 06:20 PM From what I've seen Dempsey's footspeed was just as quick and agile. hollister 01-04-2005, 11:24 PM Tyson had incredible speed for someone his size, Dempsey was much slighter of build, so it wouldn't surprise me to know that Dempsey was as fast as Tyson, but Tyson changed boxing with his combination of speed and power, driven by a level of ferocity rarely seen in boxing. jack_the_rippuh 01-05-2005, 11:06 AM It was his ability to get inside the punches what really made him look fast. Hydro 10-04-2006, 06:06 PM :lol1: :lol1: psychopath 10-04-2006, 06:15 PM It was his ability to get inside the punches what really made him look fast. Absolutely correct. And it's not only that, Tyson hits his opponent solidly while they are all backing up.
