View Full Version : Recommended gloves for me?
BG_Knocc_Out 07-16-2009, 11:00 PM I've been training with the oh so terrible Everlast Aerobic gloves that you buy at the local Dicks, and with lack of money, I haven't been able to buy me some good equipment. I've been using those gloves for almost 2 years, and my gym is cheap **** so the only gloves they have for us to use is the ****ty Aerobic gloves. But first I need some gloves, because I've been having terrible wrist problems in both arms, but especially in my left, which is my stronger hand, so I figured it'd have something to do with boxing. I'm 120 lbs, and 5'7, (if that matters) and hit harder for my size, so I've been told Reyes are good for that combination? But I'm not to sure because of lack of experience with other gloves. I've been looking at some brands lately like Fighting, Rival, Pro-Mexand the Title Gel line, but it's hard for me to choose without some recommendations, because, like I said, I have lack of money and spending 100 bucks on gloves that I have doesn't help. Also, if there is more equipment you recommend, I'll be glad to take it into consideration because it's not just gloves I'm looking for.

What are you gonna use em' for?
shyboirank#1 07-16-2009, 11:12 PM first go to a chiropractor to check it out then buy some 12 ounce gloves of any and you need to get doubled wraped
BG_Knocc_Out 07-17-2009, 01:51 AM What are you gonna use em' for?
Mitts, bagwork, just training gloves, not sparring, unless it doesnt matter.
Equilibrium 07-17-2009, 05:24 AM Before all the kiddies with rich parents come in and tell you that you absolutely need winning or cleto reyes glove because they have some, i'll tell you, i tried nice amount of brands: ATF, Everlast, Grant, Title, ect. And i must say so far the best gloves i ever had are rival gloves, i have had them for over a year and they are exactly like when i bought them except, and before that i went through a pair ever 6 months or so. Plus they offer great protection.
http://www.rivalboxing.com/e/gloves-e.html
Check out the bag gloves, i have the RB1 bag gloves and RS1 sparring gloves. Love them.
They aren't that expensive, the RB1 are like 70-75 us.

I need some gloves too and those rival gloves looks really good, do you think they can ship to sweden? what size should i have on the bag gloves?

Thanks man, I'm really digging the look of the Rival gloves, but I didn't want to buy them just because they look cool, you know? Do you know if they ship to the US off their website? I'm on the Title website but they don't have the color I want, they just have plain black, where as the Rival website has them.

That is taken straight from their website, so yes they ship all over the world. I have a friend in the us that ordered them without any problem. It should be the same for sweden.
And fuddoh: It depends on your size, the largest bag gloves they make are 14oz, i always used 16 before but rival's 14 oz offer more protection than any 16 i ever used, they are as big 16's, just lighter.
I'm a heavyweight and the 14's are fine, these gloves are heavy duty. So yeah, if you're anything above 175 i would suggest 12 or 14. I have some rather large hands even the 12 fitted perfectly. If you are a lighter guy i would say either 10 or 12 if you have some large hands.
And for BG_Knocc_Out: I say 10 oz would be perfect for you.
jrv1932 07-17-2009, 11:46 AM I recently bought some Fighting 12 oz training gloves. I liked everything about the gloves except that for some reason my hand was so uncomfortable in the pocket and I have small hands so I'm sending them back. I'm leaning for an exchange for the Rival Elite bag gloves(unfortunately title only offers them in 12 oz) or the RS1 or RS2 12 oz sparring glove. I will not use them for sparring as I have a 16oz Grant for that but I will use them for some bag work, pads, etc. Technique stuff. Is there a big difference from their bag and sparring glove. How well will the sparring gloves hold up if I get those. I'm looking for the smallest most comfortable and well padded glove. Fighting was great on all except the comfort. I really dig thoose Rival Pro sparring gloves and since title doesnt have the bag gloves in 10 oz im leaning that way. Am I wrong? Also how bulky are the two gloves compared to others?

BG_Knocc_Out 07-17-2009, 05:46 PM Yea, one of my main problems is my hands seem to not fit so well in the glove because my hands must be small. I'm not able to make a full fist comfortably. Any solution? Would I have any problems with the RB1's in that case?

Get a pair of Cleto Reyes and be done with it. Or the knockoff's are pretty good too. You'll spend about 100 for the reyes or 50 for the knockoffs.
potatos 07-17-2009, 06:58 PM Hearing some ***** ass response here.
YOu know what are the best gloves? any gloves god damnit. Back in my day we would just wrap our fists with a long strip of oiled oxen leather. If you were lucky you could get hand me down gloves that had to be re-stuffed with horse hair.
Nowadays you hokey pokey namby pamby ***** boys need pretty ergonomic fancy nancy gloves.
And you know why you have weak wrists?
Its because you are limp wristed SOBs. Start boxing and quit looking in the mirror to see how pretty you are, or how you can "accesorize" or "personalize" your "look".
Too many fīken victims of the X generation marketing bull****.

Chill out Mickey, boxing has evolved, training has evolved and gear has evolved. It has nothing to do with look, it's all about protection and efficiency.
In today's boxing world you can punch a bag full of rocks with some ****ing mummy wrappings around your hands if you want but it doesn't make you oldschool or hardcore, it just makes you ****ing stupid.
Welcome to 2009.

Well Sonny Jim. toughness hasnīt evolved and wont ever go out of fashion. You wanna box, box. Use the smelly, old gym gloves, run barefoot if you have to. Hell I used to train in a Potato sack with holes cutout for arms and legs because I had no gym clothes, thats why they call me potatoes. Boxing is raw, its tough, in old school gyms you still find boxers working out in old trackpants and work footwear.
You dont find much spandex in the best boxing gyms.
Some people here need a :bottle:

This is where i agree with potatoes, why would you spend a fortune on training gear if you're never going to go anywhere with boxing? If you're pro, sure, get the winning. But if you just flail at the bag and get the winning you're just trying to be flashy at the gym. But being flashy won't keep you from getting a beatdown.
And why would you ever suggest Cleto reyes to a guy who is looking for training gloves? Cleto reyes make good fighting glove cause they are hard as hell, they are a puncher's glove. But for training cleto reyes are probably the worst gloves out there, they offer the least protection, even worst than everlast.
You obviously don't know ****.

WTF is your problem man. You don't know **** about me. I've used both. I have money for winning training gloves and I like them so I bought them. You gotta problem? *******?
And the Reyes training gloves are also good but much cheaper.
I like quality. Both offer quality.
I don't use them show off jackass. I just like protecting my hands.

F l i c k e r 07-18-2009, 01:05 AM I say why not spend 300 bucks on a pair of gloves that will last you 10-20 years without fail, guaranteed? Instead of spending 30-60 bucks every year to replace your old cheap gloves that dont offer much protection, dont look nice, and dont smell good? Which all will add up over 300 bucks with time.
Personally I have nimble hands. I wont say fragile because of my martial arts training(click here for example (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hr71xG7JuWY)). I still like to protect them though with some extremely high quality gloves.
Also, @potatos. I wouldn't train with a potato bag on. I would just train with no shirt. And personally I like the under armour clothing. Wear ****in spandex all day when I train. Feels good and feels like you wearin nothing at all. :boxing:

It's not like we are talking basketball shoes or a pair of jeans. Shoes dont improve your performance and a pair of $30 Levis will outlast any bull**** Rodeo Drive $1k pair of jeans.

You're obviously the one with a problem red k'ing me because i said you don't know ****. Truth must hurt. Keyboard warrior, keep talking **** in the lounge and leave the training section for people who really train.
I was simply stating that winning gloves or any brand of glove won't make you a better fighter. But you took it personal. You can use winning if you want, but you saying that cleto reyes make good training gloves made me laugh.
If you really like protecting your hands you wouldn't be using Cleto reyes for bag work and general training dumbass. Cleto reyes gloves offer as much protection as a ****ing pair of mittens.

Because I'm 16, my money come from my parents. Spending 300 bucks for a pair of gloves doesn't tick with them, especially when they don't know the importance of a glove. If I had a job, I'd buy some Winnings, but unfortunatly I don't have time for one, so the next best thing is to spend almost a fourth on some $80 gloves and keep their wallets fat rather than spending my parents whole paycheck on some measly gloves.

It's understood between fighters and gym rats that cleto reyes make great fighting glove because they are the best gloves to use if you want to hurt people, they are hard as hell. While their training gloves offer horrible protection and should only be used to train if you want to impress your butt buddies.
