View Full Version : The sleep study
nance 02-15-2005, 11:07 AM should have been the "toss and turn" study. I felt as if I got less sleep than I do at home. At least here at home I can sleep in when I finally fall asleep.
It's hard to sleep when you have wires sticking out all over. I could have auditioned for a role in one of those sci-fi movies...
Hopefully the results will be quick and relatively painless....
AgonYx0 02-15-2005, 12:03 PM sleep sounds so good right now! i feel like im gonna knock out right here at work on my desk. :bottle:

Agony, where do you work?

No....I was diagnosed with sleep apnea about five years ago. I (most of the time) sleep with a mask on my face that forces air into my throat to keep it open.
Lately, it hasn't been working and I've been not sleeping well. It affects everything in your life when you don't sleep good day after day.
Having to get this done and then fight with the doctor's group to see a specialist. It's a nightmare in more ways than one, but I'm winning the battle...I hope.

damn MCM thats not cool, will u ever get ri of that or will it always be in your life? how do u get that sleeping apnea?
Lol999 02-16-2005, 12:43 PM I got the sleep apnea thing, be very careful if they want you to have the uvula removed to open up the airway. I had it done, as well as bone and cartilage from the nose and it made no difference whatsoever. Plus, I now choke very easily on stuff due to the uvula not being there. Tried the machine twice and I still stop breathing, consultant wants me to have MORE bone out the nose, it'll be as thick as eggshell at this rate ;)
Lol :D

Hopefully IF and WHEN I lose weight. That doesn't help, but it's hard to lose the weight when you have a tibial tendon that ruptured and went misdiagnosed for over two years. I can't kickbox, run, walk, etc. Biking is one way, but you have to do a LOT of biking. Swimming is tough because which ever way I turn my foot, I have pain.
I'm just screwed...lol....So I learn to live with it. Roll with the punches :boxing:

Thanks....been thinking about it too.
Shaolin Bushido 02-17-2005, 12:38 AM Thanks....been thinking about it too.Damn, that's crucial. Sleep apnea ... is that what Reggie White had? I mean, you actually stop breathing in your sleep?
MCM, you can also do cardio with your arms only; you know those machines that resemble lowering and raising sails?

No, I didn't think about that. I'll check into it. I belong to 24 Hour, just need to start putting myself first for a change.
What I need is a personal trainer. If I make an appt., I'll keep it and I'll work out. Otherwise, it doesn't seem as important to me. I'm awful about taking care of me.....
Thanks SB
neils7147933 02-14-2007, 11:57 AM My buddy has sleep apnea and sleeps with a breathing machine. We went to Chicago to watch the Tapia fight late 05 and stayed in a room that got absolutely pitch black. There he is, in the other bed on the other side of the room sounding like Darth Vader in the pitch black. Was kind of funny...
I was dead tired though and the snoring deep breath sound was kind of rhythmic after awhile

Hahaha, I guess you have to have a good sense of humour if you get sleep apnea then.
Not only do you have to be fitted up to a machine every time you want a lie down, but you have all your friends laughing at the sound of you breathing and sleeping. ¨Darth Vader¨. lol.

That's true..
There is a new device out that I now use. A mouth piece. It keeps the lower jaw from dropping down and closing off the air passage in the throat.
It workds..but I have TMJ, so I can't wear it all the time.
Mick Hucknall 02-14-2007, 04:49 PM can u not breathe in and out through your nose?
nance 02-14-2007, 05:04 PM can u not breathe in and out through your nose?
I breathe fine thru my nose.
TMJ =tempormandibular joint disorder affects the jaw muscles and the joint itself. The mouthpiece affects that when it's out of whack and I can't use the device for the sleep apnea.
I cant' use the CPAP machine (the darth vader thing) because you sleep with your neck in an awkward position and I have cervical spinal degeneration and woke up all the time with neck and headaches....
I need a new body.

That is sleep apnea...you stop breathing.
They tested me on a good night and I stopped 47 times. That was a good night for me.....I've stopped over 100 times before.
You don't get that deep sleep you need. Mine is starting to show again, I have circles under my eyes.....
platinummatt! 02-14-2007, 06:00 PM Hospital beds use inflatable matresse- and are very uncomfortable. I got little sleep when I was in hospital.
