View Full Version : Oscar Would Fight Tito At 154...
Truth 02-15-2005, 09:30 AM "De La Hoya to 154?
By Press Guy @ 7:20 am 2/15/2005
Ahead of his assignment as the featured promoter on Saturday night’s huge Hopkins-Eastman card is Los Angeles, Oscar de la Hoya stole himself a little of the limelight surrounding the fight with a statement indicating something of his future. De La Hoya mentioned the possibility of fighting Felix Trinidad in what would be a revenge mission of sorts for him as Trinidad was the first to defeat De La Hoya back in the late nineties. De La Hoya, unsuccessful by his standards as a middleweight, even went as far as to say that he would fight Trinidad at the 154-pound light middleweight limit. The nature of making this huge fight is a complex one, not the least of which is the fact that Trinidad must first find a way past southpaw stylist Ronald Wright later this year. As always, ***********.com will keep you updated with the latest news free."

Tito said he is staying at middleweight, I doubt it will happen but possibly as the 160 division is shallow for the paychecks that Felix is looking for. Although at THIS point I favor Tito, Oscar has slipped so much he isnt as fast and doesnt move much and I dont think it is his weight but due to him slipping moving down wont help. Oscar is on his way out, Tito takes Oscar legitmately this time around.
mic573 02-15-2005, 09:49 AM I think Tito would go back down in weight if the pay is right. I would favor Tito at 154 in another close fight.
PRboxingfan 02-15-2005, 10:22 AM Tito will not go to 154 to fight Oscar because he knows he could kill him at 160. Why even risk it. He'll probably beat Winky and go for one more fight against Hopkins and retire, win or lose.
borikua 02-15-2005, 12:25 PM Oscar is just talkin ****..He knows that Tito won't go down to 154, plus the biggest problem has been that Oscar still wants to make more money than Trinidad in a rematch...If he really wanted to fight Trinidad he would have agreed the terms of Team Trinidad.
jack_the_rippuh 02-15-2005, 12:29 PM Maybe they can fight at 156. I don't know why Tito acts as if he doesn't want to fight Oscar anymore...he can get some serious cash and have a chance to possibly erase all the controversy surrounding the first fight..
IwatchBoxing 02-15-2005, 12:36 PM Hopkins is ducking Tito, Oscar is trying to take the attention off that, by calling Tito out, while moving down.

Listen i'm puerto rican and tito is my favorite fighter but lets be serious. I'm sick of people saying Hopkins is ducking Sturm, tito, or anybody what does hopkins have to do to prove he is scared of no one and can prolly make a fool of every fighter around his weight class. Why would he duck tito a man that he dominated and basically sent into retirement. Hopkins is worried about teo things in this stage of his career money and big fights. After eastman he'll probably fight glen johnson and the winner of winky-tito.

Your entititled to your opinion but i'm just saying would you fear a man who didnt do anything effective against you and that you knocked out. If hopkins is ducking Tito it's because he is old news and as for Allen he fought him three times because he was the mandatory three times.

how would this erase the controversy?
its more than 5yrs ago.
so much has happened since then.
and tito has been rumoured to have considered fighting
joe calzaghe, a super middleweight looking at light heavy
so to then consider fighting a welerweight seems ludicrous.
then again if the moneys there i wouldnt put it past dlh
ottoevans 02-15-2005, 01:37 PM oscar by landslide to fast to smart.
ottoevans 02-15-2005, 01:39 PM why would B-Hop duck a man he made his wife in the 1st fight??????? its not like it was a clode fight. its proably been the 2nd most lopsided fight in big fight history

Yeah, but people still talk about that fight and how it was a robbery.
If a second fight takes place and Trinidad knocks him out, the whole, "De La Hoya really won the first fight would lose alot of weight."
spinksjinx 02-15-2005, 02:05 PM oscar by landslide to fast to smart.
TO FAST? Since when?
loangunZ 02-15-2005, 02:06 PM no no no forget tito I want to see DLH juda or Zoo
jack_the_rippuh 02-15-2005, 02:15 PM no no no forget tito I want to see DLH juda or Zoo
If De La Hoya fights Tsyzu and soundly beats him, you're going to hear Mayweather say, "He destroyed my dream of fighting Kostya Tszyu, now I want to destroy the dream of Oscar De La Hoya."
Maybe DLH should do what he did against Hopkins. Didnt he come in at like 155 or something around that. I think tito kills him, but i want to see oscar fight at 147 or 154 to see if the weight was making him look like he was slipping or that fact is he really is slipping. I dont think Hopkins is ducking anyone i think he will be fighting trinidad cuz he is going to be looking for a big pay day before he retires.
dafrza3 02-15-2005, 02:34 PM I agree make a catch wieght of 156-57 and that doesnt mean DLH has to make that wieght he can wiegh in at 154 and just make the fight happen.
Split the purse down the middle i mean Oscar will make more on the promotional agreement as well then the purse anyway and it would be a megafight for golden boy promotions.
Win/Win if i say so myself.
PRboxingfan 02-15-2005, 02:34 PM oscar by landslide to fast to smart.
This isn't the Oscar of old, this is an old Oscar. He is not fast anymore. Oscar loses to any top fighter between 147 and 154.
Oscar would lose to: Ouma, Wright, Tito, Judah, Margarito, and might even lose to Spinks. I don't see Oscar beating anyone who has a title in those divisions.
QueenCity 02-15-2005, 02:37 PM Oscar is seeming pretty wishy warshy lately first he talks about moving down to 147 now he says he still wants another shot a Trinidad. I wish he would just pick a gameplan and stick to it because Oscar can make money at which ever weight he fights at.
spinksjinx 02-15-2005, 02:40 PM Split the purse down the middle i mean Oscar will make more on the promotional agreement as well then the purse anyway and it would be a megafight for golden boy promotions.

Yeah right, Don King wouldnt let that stipulation roll off the contract. Don would say **** on you GoldenBoy, My fighter took 2 years off came back and whooped some serious ass. You havent looked good in over 2 years and got your ass handed to you twice.
The purse and promotional negotiations will always keep this fight from happening.
trinidadpr87 02-15-2005, 03:31 PM Tito won't fight DLH again because after the Winky fight he wants Hopkins and than he's moving up to super middle.
