im asking this question coz ive seen posts stating tyson could bench 480 pounds, some say 500 pounds, some 550. does any1 have any solid proof of how much he benches??? And type in bench press lifts for other famous fighters if you know of any

Tyson lifted strong, I think 450-500 lb. on the bench, but his mental strength was limited and even physically a lot of his opponents proved themselves to be stronger. I'd say overall he had slightly above average strength for a modern heavyweight. I'd rate it 6/10.

With 16" arms and a backround of non weight training its very frightning to me that he is that stong. Thats gotta make body builders very thrustrated and jealous

Actually Mike was very ineffective inclinches. Or was he just clinch lazy. Anyway I saw him manhandled by so many mediocre fighters in clinches it probably shows that he was not very strong(physically) fighter.

Don't get me wrong, Tyson has a great physique and I'm sure he can lift a lot of weight but lifting isn't the end all of strength. I knew several people in HS who were larger than me and lifted more and yet I could still pushed them around. I simply had more natural, functional "man strength" than them.

tyson got manhandelled in clinches coz he didnt want to waste energy, cant u tell

Tyson was manhandled by Holyfield inside.....that's one of the reasons he was beaten so badly.

remember when he tried to break botha's arm :D it would'nt suprise me if he could lift a crazy amount, tyson was just a powerful man.

Yeah, but he failed to do it. A true strongman would have snapped Botha's flabby arm like a twig. Case closed, Tyson is weak.

"tyson got manhandelled in clinches coz he didnt want to waste energy, cant u tell"

Yeah and I suppose he got knocked out by Douglas because he didn't want to "waste energy" by rising to beat the count.

You guys are all confused. He can't lift anything, but he can sure hold you down. He's a rapist..............

None of mike tysons losses were reeally real. With buster douglas he didnt even train, he gained 22 pounds and had to suck dat much water out of his body. with holyfield it was after prison and lewis, well he was well past his prime, so his record stands 37-0/ LOL

Doesn't matter how strong he is, now does it?

Holyfield, Buster Douglas, McNeely, Lewis, Bonecrusher Smith, just guys off the top of my head and in no particular order that were obviously stronger than him.

Tyson was incredibley strong he pushed bruno who was built like a bodybuiler around the ring like a rag doll he did the same with ruddock , ruddock couldnt believe tysons strength he thought tyson was on steroids and no way was holyfield stronger than tyson , tyson just didnt push holyfield back, tyson could bench press 250 pounds when he was 12 years old I dont think holyfield would of being able to that or benchpress anything close to that at 12 . Sugar ray leonard even said tyson was incredibley strong , barry tomkins said during tysons prime in 88 that I havent seen any fighter able to push tyson off and tyson wasent weak in clinches he was just lazy , teddy atlas said that tyson was lazy in clinches because he wanted to take a rest .

You don't have to write "quote" when you're actually writing the quotation marks. That's like double quote or something. :D

George Foreman was obviously way stronger, Sony Liston too. But guys like Klitschko, Lennox Lewis and Larry Holmes were probably stronger too.

Maybe he was just big, but his technique made him seem stronger?

You dont need strength if you've got the technique down.

Flawless.

Tyson had power not strength. He could do reps quick and powerful

haha what a bunch of retards in this thread, especially Kid Achilles

Lennox Lewis's biography states that he could bench 340-380lbs at a bodyweight of 250.
So how the fk can Tyson bench 500lbs????? Im guessing 350lbs at the very most.

lol at the comment that Tyson is a below average in the strength department compared to other heavweights....weak? lol you're out of ur mind.

People assume people who weightlift lack real strenght?
World Strongmen weightlift, just look at Mariuz...the guy looks like a bodybuilder. I guess he must be weak too huh?

Yeah and so would Pacman, even though he would struggle hard to benchpress 200 pounds.

tyson was'nt that strong, i dont think, very explosive though

I think honestly most of the time he didn't push away from the clinch and such is because he wanted to conserve energy. I don't know many ppl that throw about 85% power punches that's don't get somewhat tired. So instead of running I think he cliched to get a breather and preserve his energy.
