Okay I'm asking this question because none of my friends are into boxing at all, except for my brother. I have 2 buddies who were what I call "fight fans" meaning that they are just into mega fights(Tyson,DLH,Jones Jr.,etc.)and thats it. Myself and my brother are the only person I know who are passionatley into boxing. It sucks because I can't really discuss boxing with anybody except my bro like I can with my buddies about other sports.

How many friends/buddies are into boxing like you??

It sucks doesn't it? After a great fight, you wanna talk about it with someone who actually understands what has just happened, and you can't.

I guess I'm lucky. My roomate is a die hard fan so we discuss and watch the fights together. My grandfather is also a big fight fan. Try asking people where you work you may find a fan you wouldn't expect.

I am the only one who is into the sport, none of my friends understand the sport, and they piss me off when they give stupid comments about me being into boxing...

Yeah, only my MOM and dad. I think part of the problem is it doesent get as much air-time as the other big sports. (football/baseball/basketball)

I have only my father-in-law. Former fighter and coach. Decent achievments, great experience and knowledge. Good to watch boxing with him.

Only one of my mates is into boxing, but he lives on the other side of the country now. Nobody else knows anything. A couple have probably heard of Klitschko, but that's about as far as their knowledge goes.

I haven`t any friends who are into Boxing. And like many others here, my father likes it a bit but i don`t have any friends who are IN to boxing. Its not a mainstream sport you know, boxing fans are a small community. But i appreciate a site like this one that boxing fans can get together and debate!

None of my friends are. My dad will get into it as a father-son type of deal if I am their but other than that he doesnt show any interest. When we went and seen spadafora vs dorin he thought De la hoya was fighting...I chuckled, but he was hyped. Whenever I go out and see fights, I am not one down to invite my friends. I usually take my dad as we dont do much and I doubt he will be around much longer so it makes him happy.

Other than that my girlfriend will watch the fights but only cares about Felix, she is crazy about him. She seen him against Joppy and was hooked line and sinker. She watches a lot of fights but doesnt really care unless it is a favorite fighter of hers. But hey its better than nothing I guess.

I only know one person who is into boxing but not as much as I am. When we start talking about boxing he is usually about a month or two behind on all the news.

I got a friend similar to that, He only knew about Roy Jones and we was having a conversation about boxing and he was being serious as hell and he said, "I heard Oscar was going to fight Roy in a few months, Who do you think would win." From that point on, I used my best interest and decided never to talk boxing with that schmuck again.

Also another thing that pisses me off, is that a lot of people only think in boxing their is only one division and everyone can fight everyone.

For instance, when I started to train everyone said "everybody will kill you, you are to small"

This is how ignorant the casuals are.

I remember a few years ago somebody asked me if Oscar Delahoya was ever going to fight Mike Tyson. I'm sitting there talking about boxing and he asked me something stupid like that. I would of gave him a pass but he asked me if Delahoya who was a welterweight at the time was going to fight Tyson who is a heavyweight. That is one of my biggest complaints about people who think they know boxing but don't ever really take the time to learn about the sport.

Man I am in the same situation.

Even my friends who like boxing a little bit shut up when I start talking about it, because they hear **** they never heard from each other.

I remember when I was a child watching my father and family watch the Holyfield-Foreman bout, he was like 'son both of those guys are preachers' he appeared to like the sport..but now he hates it, all he watches is football, and he thinks boxing is 'brutal' and thinks I should stop fighting even though I've never been knocked down or in trouble.

my dad's a big ***** in my opinion, I know people's dads arent supposed to be tough, but at age 16 i couldve beat his ass carrying a lawn chair in my right hand.

but y'know I know he cares about my fights because twice a week I'm like 'pop come throw the medicine ball lets do a few sets' and hes like no. Then I'm like 'Man the bum I'm fighting is prolly workin on his jab, come trow da ball' and he'll get up and throw it. hehe

and im right handed

....I think just about everyone here is in the same boat. We all know a few people who come close to sharing our passion but we don't exactly have a large group of friends that are obsessed like we are. I hate it when I start a boxing convo with someone and they look at me like I have two heads. Us hardcore boxing fans are drawn to other boxing fans and thusly we are led to a great site like boxingscene.

I get a bit pissed sometimes, i'm quite a big bloke so when i mention i do/watch boxing people change, i can fully understand the two heads thing :D its like they assume i'm a thug but in truth boxings helped me control myself during certain situations.

I try not to speak about boxing when away from this forum.

sometimes I wish I was born to a mexican family, then I'd have a better chance of having a fighting family. or a philadalphia black family. lol I'd give up my whiteness for it...(Then again, maybe I wouldn't. Being a white heavyweight, I am aware that if I do ever get a title shot (even if I suck, everyone will buy a ticket because im white. the 80 year old people that never go out of their house will buya ticket cuz im white, I'll be getting 10 million for that fight just because I'm white, which is wrong, but fine with me)

it sucks the way boxing is like that, everyone pays to see the white guy.

cooney was like 'i had no clue i was the white hope' man shut the **** up your full of ****. of course he knew it he just didnt wanna look like a fool in front of the press.

of course, that's why the fans would pay. because it's rare to see a truly white fighter in this day and age :)

it's like a rare diamond or something.

I'm in the same boat as you. The only other people I know who like boxing are my dad and my grandfather.
Same here it's my Bro,Dad,3 Uncles and my friends watch it cause I get them hyped and its free at my house. One of my uncles was golden gloves champ back in Mexico City.Everytime there is a fight Ill have it at my house,so I call my buddies and tell them to bring a 12 pack. I recently found out that I have a neighbor that used to box in Mexico. He says he was good friends with Jorge Paez back in Mexicali. His nick name was El Gato Felix. I only know him by his first name Gilberto. He'll come over and watch the fights with us also.

my parents and a few people from work are fight fans. i know 2 people from college who like boxing as i do, however we arent knowledgeable as its hard to come by information over here...boxing here is a dead sport except for amir khan. we even had to pay attention to audley harrison. hence im looking for a gym close by to train and also meet some people who know and so im not always behind all of you on getting info.

Two of my friends are Gatti and Tyson fans. They make stupid point about everything like gatti is going to out box mayweather and Tyson is the best heavyweight of all time. Their anaylisis comes down to pure KO"s not boxing skills. Never have presented a valid point about any boxer at any time. The only time i can go talk about boxing is when i actually box at my gym

Not too many of my friends were into boxing before this year, but I slowly have force fed it onto about five of 'em or so. At the begining of the year none of them liked it, but this summer already one of my college buddies bought the Trinidad/Wright PPV on his own, another called me to see if it would be worth it to get Golota/Brewster tickets, and a third wants to come up and catch Tua fight on induction weekend! So they have seen the light I would like to think, of course fights like Morales/Barrera III, Trinidad/Mayorga, Pacquiao/Morales, and Castillo/Corrales probably had something to do with it also.

Interesting stats here...
I'm like most of you is the only one in my crew who's really into boxing. A few will just watch a big Saturday night fight if no one made any plans and sometimes follow up on news.

But no one really into it :-(

theironone

Probably a couple or three close friends are into it, one is a ex-boxer, just retired so he follows it alot, i have a few associates who kickbox and like boxing too so they follow it a little bit, my bro heard on the radio about the corrales fight and borrowed it to watch lol, but most of the stuff he hears is from me!!
I don't know anyone who loves it as much as me though, wifey likes it (but she doesn't have much choice HAHAHAHA)
