I have some boxing and some grappling experience...is it worth my time to take any Judo lessons to add to my fighting arsenal? What can I learn from Judo?

For some reason, there are alot of people i see on other forums, like the underground, that seem to think you should only train in a few selected styles. mainly BJJ, wrestling, and Muay Thai.

I think thats a crock of poo. I don't think its possible to know too many styles, especially proven effective ones in sport fighting, like Judo.

Judo will help out mostly in takedowns and it'll give you a good amount of subs, mainly chokes where i took it. Some people claim judo sucks in the ring and is worthless, but if you can use a judo throw to take someone down, i don;t see why it's even questioned.

I say go for it. I cross trained Judo with Aikido for a while back just after high school and i loved it. The only thing is, you train with a Gi, and it might change the whole game if you ever compete in MMA with no gi, but the concepts will all be similar enough to use it to your advantage.

Judo is awesome, go for it. If Judo sucks, someone be sure to let Fedor in on that secret, I think he would like to know. Also tell Yoshida, half of the Gracies that have Judo black belts along with a majority of the BJJ instructors around the world, Karo Pariysan and much more.

From Judo you can get ground control, takedowns from clinch and legs, and submissions. It's very similar to wrestling, but with submissions included.

Judo is damn good just on it's own merit but nowadays you're likely to encounter guys with everything from aikido bb's to wrestling champs to bjj guys. You can't lose getting involved with a good judo school and AND it's likely to be a helluva lot more affordable than most schools teaching bjj; at least that's true here in NC.

I will always love Judo, that was my first martial art and I always resort to it one way or another.

Judo is perhaps just as tough as wrestling, but understand that Judo is a strick set of rules for the particular sport.

If you love to work hard and train hard you will love Judo.
