View Full Version : What's one thing you have done that made you realize you were obsessed with boxing?
Slipx 02-13-2005, 11:10 AM mine has to be when my health club membership expired, and I didnt feel like paying 48.95 a month to use the pool, in the middle of winter when nobody would be out there, I would jump the 10" wooden fence to be able to get that underwater shadowboxing training in. after doing this I knew I had found something I really truly loved. and also realized I was a nut :)

Obsessed with boxing? I wouldn't say obsessed.

Atwa_66 02-13-2005, 12:52 PM watching ali fights on tv when they come on
Watching ANY fight that comes on tv, I could stay up for 3 days just watching old and new fights, from the 1930s-1990s, I think I realized I was obsessed when one night, I was tired as ****, but then all these fights came on ESPN Classic, and I stayed up all night watching them.

since my life sux... and wen it started... i felt like fighting.. felt like watchin ppl fight.... and everything else to do with boxing, training, cutman EVERYTHING
When I was 10 years old I had a subscription to Burt Sugars Boxing Illustrated that I used to read over and over again...one of my Dad's friends then said to me that he would make a bet that I was the only 10 year old kid in the state of washington that had a subscription to BI...
After listening to that it made me feel cool or something that I was doing something that very few kids were doing so from there on I knew I would be obsessed with the sweet science.

adrsan84 02-13-2005, 02:47 PM I'm a second year in college and I get absolutely no work done because i'm always reading about boxing or watching it. Also the loads of anticipation i feel for the Pacquiao-Morales fight, im so anxious and i can't wait. When big fights come along with a boxer i root for i usually get nervouse as hell too.
Tha Greatest 02-13-2005, 03:37 PM Everything you can imagine about boxing i do. I do everything a BIG fan does.
jack_the_rippuh 02-13-2005, 03:41 PM Who was it on this site who said they used handwraps instead of condoms?
twospeed99 02-13-2005, 05:40 PM Watched a John Ruiz fight !!!
than watched another one ???
Truth 02-13-2005, 06:14 PM Boxing is my favorite sport to watch and follow, I noticed I was obsessed when I starting ordering fights on video and checking the internet everyday for the latest fight news.
buff_mike10 02-13-2005, 06:27 PM When i was 10 years old and would be late for school from being up all night shadow boxing in the dark and working on different combinations i realized.
xrhythmxnxbluesx 02-13-2005, 06:41 PM watching every fight there was on tv...
The Fix 02-13-2005, 06:45 PM i notice it when i talk about boxing with my freinds and they dont know what iam saying.
m00ks 02-13-2005, 06:45 PM When I hear myself talk with my friends, I can't stop talking about the damn sport
When boxing has taken the #1 spot of pre - occupied things that go in my mind and sex takes a backseat. When I suddenly shadow box out in public... Ya know let out a 3punch combo here and there, it's kinda like having torrets syndrome( and my girlfriend catches me and gives me a WTF are you doing look). I've sworn to myself that I would never pay to watch PPV fights, well since I moved out of town I no longer have the friends to talk 'em into chipping in to watch the fights. So it's like a guilty pleasure that I throw down 50 - 60bucks for overhyped fights. Atleast it hasn't gotten as bad as watching John Ruiz, the only time that I've ever watched John " El Hoto " Louise fight was against Roy " He's a f@g too " Jones Jr.
THRILLAinmanila 02-13-2005, 07:41 PM When I started buying DVDs of fights, and logging-on to

Tha Greatest 02-13-2005, 09:18 PM I go to the gym every weekday, run in the morning, read magazines b4 i go to sleep, go on boxingscene EVERY ****IN DAY

Got posters on my wall. Ordered lots of fights. Recorded hella fights, etc. Always boxing on the tv in my house, if you dont like boxing, you better get the hell out.
BrooklynBomber 02-13-2005, 09:41 PM i notice it when i talk about boxing with my freinds and they dont know what iam saying.
Holy ****, same thing happens to me, I start commenting on a fight or explaining certain boxing technique and my friends look at me like i am from mars.
I realised that I love boxing after i got my nose broken, face split open and my wrist broken(poetry?) and still came to practice because I just was so hooked up I could not miss a day without going to gym and box.
jack_the_rippuh 02-13-2005, 09:42 PM I play Fight Night...

Champoreeno 02-13-2005, 10:05 PM When I started responding to forum questions on a boxing website.
Solo322 02-13-2005, 10:41 PM Since I started trying to explain to all my friends that boxing was the ultimate sport that had the ultimate athletes, telling them to throw football, basketball, and tennis out the window (I'm a tennis player myself), and after I had watched Roy Jones and Gatti and Tyson and had to delete a fight :( off my hard drive. I realized that I was a real boxing junkie.
Nothing else combines speed, strength, endurance, reflexes, and courage.
Another time when I knew I was really a hard core junkie was when I was in college and had $200 to my name and I ordered Paul Spadafora vs. Dennis Holbaek on PPV for $25...I knew I had a real problem then.
chito 02-13-2005, 11:30 PM when i scored the fight bet. pacquiao and marquez and i found out it was really hard to score them because your eyes should be fast enough to see all the punches connected. i tried it again in barrera-morales III and i became more frustrated because i couldn't scored it as accurately as i wanted it to be. that seems pretty weird, isn't it?
joeboxer 02-13-2005, 11:32 PM When I started responding to forum questions on a boxing website.

tracylee 02-14-2005, 02:35 PM The 'tell tell' signs for me were probably when I started refusing to go out and shoot pool (something I LOVE to do!!) cause there was a fight coming on that night, and not only did I prefer to watch it live, but I didnt quite trust the vcr to tape it if I wasnt there! As for the vcr..thats another sign cause I went and bought a brand new one for "emergency backup" and to make copies of fights I already had taped. And the tapes..thats another sign, cause now I tape any and every damn fight that comes on tv..doesnt matter who it is ( I realized this when I caught myself taping a very old replay on CSS :o ) and that includes all the FNF, SNF and Shobox..the way I see it is atleast 3 out of 10 of the newbies they show on those particular shows are likely to be big names one day, and this way I will have some of their early stuff taped. If that wasnt enough to clue me in, then desperately trying to convince my 10 yr. old daughter that boxing was the coolest thing on earth sure was..thankfully she agreed! :D
When i **** wasted lying on my back while being blown at a party in the december, i rememberd "****! What am i doing here when klitschko-Williams fight was one.
And i would have gone for the fight if they had had cable :D

how should i be a father? you know... things like that pump up in my head almost evey minute. :bottle:
outofit 02-15-2005, 09:55 PM i pay for digital cable evry month and i can't stand tv. for me its boxing, movies or RPG's or the internet.
FistoftheDallasStar 02-15-2005, 10:03 PM Since the age of 13 I've recorded countless amount of vhs video tapes of fights, that was a hint. But my last girlfriend would call me and ask what I was up to and almost everytime I would say watching a fight either on tape or on tv. She even said I was obsessed with boxing at one point. And I am, boxing is the purest sport in history. Football comes close but it will never be better in my eyes.
Super_Lightweight 02-15-2005, 10:29 PM Two things made me realize how into it I was...
1) Watching the Toney-Jirov fight, I was the only one in the house and I was up and yelling "knock that muther ****er out!" in the 12 round. It was INSANE. I was like, "Knock him the **** OUT!"
2) Watching Roy fight and being amazed at his brilliance. Watching the Ruiz fight in particular I was actually shaking and I teard up a bit when he lost to Tarver.

Man, I've learned you can make all the plans in the world where your child is concerned..as to how youre gonna raise them, how you'll react to certain situations (mainly the discovery of BOYS when you have a daughter!!) and how your kid might turn out..but the way it's gone for me is my "game plan" got thrown out the window cause you just cant 'plan' much of anything, or guess how all those things will turn out. As for being a good parent, I think that all you can do is ALWAYS put your kid first..ahead of anyone and everyone, and that inculdes yourself (hell, especially yourself!!) and always be there for them with love and support. Never judge them or be too critical of what they do. Listen..I mean REALLY, really listen to them and dont ever make them think you consider what they feel 'stupid'. I've told my daughter that every single thing she feels is of major importance to me, and an example of that is me not dating. I'm single and plan to stay that way probably until she is grown. I know that sounds a little weird, but so far it's been real easy cause I've made her the focus in my life. She doesnt want another man in my life, or someone to try and replace her dad..actually, if she had her way he and I would get back together..all kids want their parents together. She knows though that will not happen, but remaining the best of friends with a healthy friendship makes her feel safe and secure.
Just let her (your daughter) that she is the most important thing in your whole world..and that nothing she could ever do would be too terrible to tell you about, no matter how hard it is for her, she needs to know that she can tell you anything.
Good communication is vital. I take it day by day, and try not to expect things to always go according to plan cause usually they dont! There..a little tip from parenting 101 (sorry, didnt mean to go on and on there..but you seemed a little concerned as to the type of dad youre turning out to be, so I just had to throw my 2 cents worth in there!) ;)
DiegoFuego 02-16-2005, 03:16 PM I had a dream I invited Mayorga over to dinner and he got drunk and punched my brother and wrecked his car somewhere down the street. This was a week before the Trinidad fight

Slipx 02-24-2005, 07:31 PM I jerked one off over a video of Mike Tyson.
For Christ's sake - THIS is the crap you constantly stalk my threads to whinge about. "yo, this weak ass thread sux, post some intellectual threads just like what I do."
**** off out of my way you little prick kid.
1. You are a weak, prideless induvidual in real life. I am not saying this out of assumption, I know it for a fact, for any strong-willed and strong-minded induvidual would never beg a moderator for 'another try' after being banned, not just a 'can I come back' but a "PLEASE RICK, THIS BOARD IS MY LIFE, YOU CANT DO THIS TO ME" type of message. It's obvious you use the board to fill a void in your life. That **** is utterly pathetic, and you are lower than an ant for doing it.
2. You lack respect for the greats of the sport. What you said about Max Schmeling is inexcuseable, I don't care how many Tyson fights you've uploaded, doing that makes the entire board look bad for not banning you on the spot for it.
3. You are a degenerate that creates useless thread after useless thread, on a journey for nothing more than attention, negative attention is fine with you, as long as it is attention.
You are a prime example of why a guy shouldn't use drugs while trying to get his wife pregnant.
buff_mike10 02-24-2005, 09:47 PM Hey Slipx, NICE ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!! Anorak 02-24-2005, 10:06 PM Hey Slipx, NICE ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!What's nice about it? He writes the same thing every day of his sad life.
1. Who said I asked for another chance? I'm not going to discuss the issues behind it, because frankly it's none of your business, but no one said I asked for another chance.
2. That remark is just complete and utter bull****. You are on record on this forum three weeks ago saying you couldn't care less about that issue one way or the other. Now all of a sudden you're a moral crusader against it? Please... if you're going to have the courage of your convictions, then fine. But don't come on here like some little prick kid making out you're offended about something three weeks ago you said you couldn't give a crap about. That just makes you look weak.
3. "Degenerate"? Ha ha ha!!! No, no, no 10% of threads I create are light-hearted. As in a JOKE. Try and understand it from a perspective other than your own. The latest thread you derided was a poll that 42 people wanted to take part in. YOU didn't? Well don't join in and let the people who want to enjoy it in peace. There's no law says 100% of threads on here have to be of interest to you. You call me words like "degenerate" and (s*******) "lesser" but you're just some stupid, uneducated little prick kid. Do you really think I'm going to be lectured by a 20 year old?
4. I really couldn't give a **** what a silly little boy like you thinks about me. Just stay the **** away from me. And please - STOP REPEATING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER. You're a moron, and YOUR threads are asinine generic bull****.
