View Full Version : Lalia Ali is nothing more than an average amatuer
PessimisticPug 02-12-2005, 09:10 PM What is it with womens boxing? What is it that makes the networks believe that we would rather watch a couple of slightly skilled amatuer women, at best, box as professionals rather than a couple of fighters who have taken the time to learn the game in the amatuers and then progressed into the professional game.
I have nothing against womans professional boxing. I do however have a problem when the women fighting as pros having taken no time to learn their skills in the amatuers before being put on t.v to display their lack of actual skill, to me its disgracefull. Sure you could say that Ali displayed skill in defeating the slug infront of her, but it was not the skill of a true professional, it was the skill of an average amatuer.
If you want to see the skill of a true professional take a look at Lucia Rijker. I was down at Kronk and she was working out and quite honestly I was fully impressed with her training ethic, desire and most of all skill. Watch her body and hips twist as he snaps a right hand, she knows how to throw a punch. Watching Ali last night, I was impressed by very little. She had nothing behind her blows. Except for the times that she would slip a shot move to her left and stick a jab, I saw very little trained fighting. That move was good but where is a right hand or any follow up punch for that matter. These moves are some of the first that you will learn as an amatuer, a beginning amatuer, not a pro.
Get these women off of the television and into the gym and the amatuer bouts where they could possibly learn to fight like professionals. In time womens boxing could really be something, in time. But time is something that these woman think is not needed to box as a professional, it most assuredly is needed if your continually going to try and sell it to the public. Watch Lucia Rijker and you'll know what I mean.......Rockin'

I saw Lucia on that doc, "Shadow boxers", I believe was the name of it and she was as dedicated and professional as anyone there. More, in most cases. She's fought the toughest mofos in international rules kickboxing which is Muay Thai minus the elbows, even fighting a guy in Muay Thai(got KTFO though) and is a true warrior ... unlike Ali who is a gifted athlete with a marketable mien and moniker.
I think Ali would win because of her athleticism, and the fact that Rijker is past her prime and rusty. Ali's also the bigger fighter and most likely to get ... er, any consideration in a close fight. I'd love to see how Ali reacts from a really heavy blow from Rijker.
Dynamite76 02-13-2005, 04:31 PM Does Lucia still fight? I don't hear much about her anymore.
Arrington 02-13-2005, 05:07 PM no one cares about womens boxing
straightjab65 02-13-2005, 11:05 PM I think that womens boxing is right where it should be. Womens boxing is an amatuer sport basically. Men have had years to perfect the sport and are presented with more opportunites than women. Give womens boxing some time and I think the skill level of the athletes will improve. As for Laila shes fought most of the best women around. If she beats ann wolfe and lucia rijker there can be no more talk about how she is a lack luster fighter. She'll have to go down as the best womens boxer.
stylepts2 02-13-2005, 11:26 PM because they have tits you dumb ****. catfights are always interesting to the public. don't ask stupid questions.

Have you seen the average female boxer? When I think of beautiful women, I dont think of women boxers. There are a few exeptions, but for the most part they aren't very good looking.

Nonsense. Two women in a fight disgusts me, and I have to break it up. Luckily, I've only had to do this a few times (and only one of these fights were over me, sadly). Only once did I not bother, and it was between a pair of big, fat black women in a Wal Mart on the "Day after Thanksgiving sale" over some article of clothing that was the last one on the shelf.....a man should never get involved in an argument between women at a clothing sale.

Smart move. You could of been killed. :D
adeelr 02-14-2005, 12:49 AM lucia rijker is a true fighter, she would outbox laila Ali anyday....Laila Ali has the talent but she needs to work a little bit harder, i dont believe she trains that seriously, i saw her gym on T.V and it looked like a five star hotel room with a ring instead of a bed.
Manila Eyes 02-14-2005, 12:51 AM I like Laila
Pugnacious_Z 02-14-2005, 12:55 AM laila ali isnt a good fighter, but dats compared to guys, comapred to girls shes an animal
Women's boxing in general is a very sad state of affairs. That having been said, I like Laila Ali. However, Lucia Rijker is the only real female boxer I've seen, and she would definitely kick Laila's ass.
PessimisticPug 02-17-2005, 07:19 PM somebody had responded that womens boxing is right where it should be, an amatuer sport. I could not agree more when looking at most of the woman. But since when did the cable networks begin airing basically amatuer athletes as professionals. I think that it would better suit the womens boxing if they would quit airing these bouts, its comical at times with their skill levels. Get these woman back in the amatuers were they could learn the skills needed to ply the trade as a professional. Lucia Rijker, you have no part in the words that i just spoke, you stand head and shoulders above anybody i have seen. A bout with Rijker/Ali could be decieving, only because of the great difference in size. I do believe that lucia would pull the bout out with her superior skill and conditioning.
On a side note there is one little lady to look for in the future. Her name is Latonya King boxing of of Kronk in Detroit. I have judged/reffed a few of her bouts and she is really developing into an impressive little fighter.....Rockin'
welcome back rockin :)
laila is a MEDIOCRE amateur and her attitude "i do it just like dady" is just plain ridiculous.
i went to a world championship and there was a women fight on the undercard , a french girl call myriam lammare against an american girl.
the fench won , and the fight was a real boxing fight , i must admit.
still , i just cant applaud when a woman is taking a bodyshot or rolls on the floor bleeding.

DJ OxXx 07-05-2006, 06:49 PM Laila is a joke. Shes all hype to me. I think Ann Wolfe would murder her in the ring.
2OSouzaSuarez12 07-05-2006, 09:08 PM I remember the first time i seen Liala, I was all excited I heard she was so good. Then i was so unimpressed it disgusted me. Im sorry im no sexist but women truely arent as good at boxing as men.
