Good luck homie. I've been training for the Chicago marathon for 2 months now. Hitting double digits is definitely a great feat. Again good luck! bring a water bottle though, you'll need it.

Had to reply to this.. If true, I'm really impressed.. While prime (about 20 years ago) I regularly did 8 miles in around 1 hr 20mins.. Ok.. That was to the swimming baths, where I'd do a few lengths, b4 relaxing in the sauna & getting the bus home... How old are you??

Turned 40 last year & was grossly obese weighing 233lb (106kilo). Joined the local boxing gym and within 9 months got wight down to 183lb (83kilo this morning)

Started running and now train 6 days a week. 3 boxing 3 running.

I downloaded a great dvd rip called CHI running which shows you how to run with min effort.Would recomend it to everyone.

Set 2 goals this year.

I used to run loads of 10 milers. They're good i used to like doing them.Had a treadmill in my hut gym but it went on the bung.800 quids worth but still don't regret it even tho it's broken.I ended up just buying a bag once it broke a couple of years ago and that's how i got into boxing because how intense it was.The last mile or 2 on the 10 milers is when it kicks in.T-shirt weighed right down, good buzz i need to start running again

Haven't got time to tell you mine, but I was an exceptionally fast sprinter 100m in 12 secs
and I've already submitted details of my training runs, which I used to do 4 times a week.. I was only an average LD runner..
I'm now 45, living in a tropical climate & run 2 miles every other day.. Push/press ups were my forte.. 1000 a day (when I was competing) These days around 400 (even if I'm drunk) No one's ever beaten me on these (I'm quite proud of that, but the time is nigh) I had a brief amateur career & did OK W9 L2 D2.. I'd describe my style as a crafty southpaw with a suspect left hook, but a vintage right cross/left uppercut.. I was known for a good chin, but 1 of my defeats was a cuts stoppage.. I still keep my hand in, but am no where near your level of fitness.. However, I'm just about still able to disguise this as I've retained satisfactory ring craft & hand speed.. But you won't be seeing me on the TV just yet lol..
I emigrated to Thailand about 6 years ago & own/run a boxing theme bar.. I'm in regular contact with quite a few pros, boxing & mai thai.. I also do sponsorship deals.
Before this, I lived & worked in London & very nearly entered the white collar scene.. I trained a few times at a gym (can't remember the name of it) in High Holborn, West London but became dispondent as most of the guys were soft stock brokers & pitiful at boxing.. I couldn't get a decent spar for love nor money! (not in the least suggesting that you're one of em lol) so I went back to 4 pints of Guinness & a good nights sleep.. These days, I'm a sprightly 165 & could probably get down to 152 with a gun to my head lol but you can forget welter for sure..
I'd like to wish you every success with regard to your forthcoming challenges.. From what you've told me, it appears that you haven't abused your health ie: smoking, steroids etc, so Just to give you a bit of eternal inspiration, remember the words of the 40 something George Foreman.. I'm like a glass that's been turned upside down for 10 years, if could do it then, I can still do it now! Regards mm

Major 100 m races, such as at the Olympic Games, attract much attention, particularly when the world record is thought to be within reach.
Usain Bolt breaking the world and Olympic records at the 2008 Beijing Olympics

The men's world record has been improved upon twelve times since the introduction of electronic timing in 1968, never being surpassed by more than 0.05 s at a time. The current men's world record of 9.69 s is held by Usain Bolt of Jamaica, set at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games final on 16 August 2008.[1] The current women's world record of 10.49 s was set by Florence Griffith-Joyner of the USA, in Indianapolis, Indiana, on 16 July 1988.[2]

I'm not sure if your saying its not a big difference between 9.69 and 12s but its a HUGE difference. Every.1 sec is major.

Dude why don't you read what I wrote. THIS IS SPRINTING, you are running a SHORT distance. Differences in time are not the same when compared to Middle Distance and Long Distance. Sprints are from 55m-400m (400m can be argued to be Mid but is not consider so), Mid Distance is 800-1600 (99.9% sure), Long Distance is above that. Every .1 sec is HUGE! Before you dispute my claims you can join a track team (provided you are still in HS) or you can look at some records and watch some videos. I was doing 12s in 8th grade and 11s in 9th + 10th grade.

I sprint for competition too, running 11.7-9 approx I get BLOWN out. Running a 12 in that race will make you look like a snail. Anyways you didn't say anything about non competition, you were the one who brought up records (including the top guys). Secondly fast IS what they do in competition. Thats like saying a guy who fights bums is pretty good...at least out of sanctioned boxing. Finally, you argument was I couldn't be running 11s in HS and other HS can run faster.

LAST 5 people on that list:

B-100 84 10.60 Dunlap, Chris (2009) ( Muir, CA) Pacific League Finals, 2009-05-08 NWI

LAST 5 in just the NORTHEAST:

B-100 48 10.99 Smith, Tyler ( North Penn, PA) Continental Conference, 2009-05-08 NWI
B-100 48 10.99 Pierce, Kwinton (2009) ( Duval, MD) Prince George County, 2009-05-07 NWI

B-100 53 11.00 Blackwell, Alexander (2009) ( Wise, MD) Prince George County, 2009-05-07 NWI

Bet they cant box for ****.

1) Never said they could
2) I would bet with training some of them would be decent boxers given their athletic prowess

Bet with boxing training they couldnt sprint for crap well atleast compared to your Jesse owens standards. So how long have you been sprinting against horses?

Sprinting is more natural than not, if your good usually the ability can be quickly spotted. Boxing is more technical mastery. Jesse Owens ran a 9.4, that is crazy fast. Did you read my posts or do you enjoy being ignorant. EVERY .1-.01 part of a second COUNTS. Races are won by that marginal difference. 9.5 vs 9.6 is a BIG difference, 10 vs 11 is a HUGE difference. My standards? What are you talking about? My standard is approx 11.7 which is not really fast, so I don't know why you're saying that I've been running against horses as sarcasm.

So 11.7 - 12 is an unfathomable diffrence that makes 12 slow where as 11.7 is just not really fast?

Point that ive been trying to make is that if your training for sprinting then you can be a good sprinter and if your going for boxing you can be a good boxer but there is no way that you will be 100% in both. so if your expecting a top boxer to compete with olympic sprinters thats just retarded. this isnt a sprinting match its a boxing match and .01 dosent make a diffrence its the days weeks and months training that makes the diffrence. some guy might be able to only do 15's on the 100m but he can still kick your arse if he trains hard.

I never said it was but as I've stated time and again each and every .1 second makes a difference and at the elite level every .01 makes a difference (also in close races they don't necessarily need to be elite). 12s-13s are common middle school numbers. 11s are very common in HS, lower 11s being really fast. 10s in high school are really great. I think you may have misinterpreted what I meant regarding sprinters doing boxing. What I mean was given that sprinter's (in the list) athletic prowess, based solely on athleticism he could potentially be a decent boxer. A great boxer doesn't necessarily have to be great at sprinting as the skills don't translate. I wasn't expecting a top boxer to compete at sprinting. Another thing you misinterpreted is whether .01 would make a difference in sprinting and boxing. Sprinting yes, boxing no. I never claimed it would, this recent discussion about sprinting has been about purely sprinting and nothing to do with boxing.

meanwhile the threads about long distance running.

Haven't got time to tell you mine, but I was an exceptionally fast sprinter 100m in 12 secs
and I've already submitted details of my training runs, which I used to do 4 times a week.. I was only an average LD runner..

He brought it up, I commented on it, other people replied and so on. It appears that you haven't read the thread.

I might have initiated it, at the time I had no idea that someone was gonna argue with me about track despite obviously having never done it. And why do you keep changing what you're talking about?

I dont really have much more to say about what i say before. i mean if ive allready said it why say more.

thats like telling some one to take my previous advice when all ive told them is that their slow.

Personally i think the thread would have been better if it had gone in the direction of long distance running and in some ways im jsut trying to annoy you, or maybe im just lonely and i want to have a conversation with some one.

I was thinking you were trying to annoy me after the "So you admit to taking the thread off topic" remark :D but regardless, I'm done posting here.

Not to put you down :P, but 12 secs in a 100m isn't fast.
It was considered quite fast in England during the early 80's
I hit about 13.5 these days (real slow lol)

Its picking at hairs. 12 secs or 11.5 who cares.

Btw love Thailand.Last time there had a great round of golf just outside Pattaya :)

The island i live on is pretty flat but you can always find a hill or two to run up and down.

Now got the 10 miler outa the way a cple weeks from now its gotta be a half marathon.

Best investment i ever made for running was buying an ipod shuffle 2 gig. Its as big as yer thumb nail. Clips on yer tshirt. Got it loaded with a few hundred old school 80,s/90,s house/rave music & seems like i can run for ever lost in my own mobile nightclub.

luv it!!!

Sorry.. Didn't realize there were so many aspiring Maurice Greene's out there, let alone in the fight game.. Well I was the fastest sprinter at my boxing gym.. That'll do for me..

Cool! Golf's big out here.. Don't play myself, but I'm thinking of taking it up.. Perhaps if/when I get more time.. Very technical sport, & these are some of the best courses in the world.. I live in South Pattaya myself..
Lanzarote is a popular training area for pro's.. Can remember Bruno, Benn & Wharton setting up camps during the 90's.. I visited a friend on Fuerteventura recently.. I love 80's music to.. My bar rocks it every night.. mm

huh...I knew I was fast but didnt think I was that fast. I could go to the olympics lol I think 11.5 seconds last time I checked but it wasnt on a track, just a measured flat of grass that WAS 100m but it was kinda lumpy with long grass so maybe I could cut that down to 11-11.25 on a track.
