View Full Version : Condolezza Rice vs Hillary Clinton in Presidential Runoff 2008: Who Wins?

Given that Hilary will run for the office in 2008, the best countering strategy by Republicans will be to have Condolezza Rice run up against Hilary. It is clear that any republican man, e.g. Powell, will easily loose to Hilary, and the only person that can beat Hilary is Condolezza Rice.

Is not this a brilliant political move by Busch? Appointing Condolezza Rice as the Secretary of State provides her with a strong public exposure needed to launch a successful presidential campaign againt Hillary.

I must say though that Condoleza was not a good Provost at Stanford (I was there at the time), and her "fluent" Russian is a myth. Her Russian is OK, but is far from fluent. She probably does have strong connections to the U.S. intelligence/counterintelligence circles.

The Democrats cannot possibly be stupid enough to have Hilary Clinton be their candidate.
She does have an ardent following, but is too universally despised & mistrusted to ever hope to be our president.

If you think Repuclicans were galvanized to back Bush against Kerry....just wait until you see the numbers who turn out against Hilary.

Do you think Kerry can beat Hilary for nomination (and then beat Rice)?

No....the Dems will never pick Kerry again.

But.......there is plenty of time to find someone more suitable than either Kerry or Clinton.

A black women, are you nuts? The Republican nominee will be either Cheney or McCain. As for the Dems, who knows. It could be Hillary but it's by no means a lock.

Why not a black woman? That would be really cool.

Cheney is too old. McCain will run for a vice-president together with Rice. (Just a speculation ;) )

I have nothing against blacks, women, or black women. But there are plenty of Americans who don't believe a women could be an effective leader, and many who would never vote for a black. Rice wouldn't stand a chance.

I am a very forward-looking person. I love science-fiction, I love progress, and I think it will be a huge jump in political development of this country to have Rice run and possibly win the presidential chair in 2008.

I am not sure that right-wingers (Busch) are necessarily racist, but I too think that there are many more latent racists among Republicans than among Democrats.

While its very nice you think this way, you aren't thinking strategically.

Remember...NEITHER party is interested in what's best for America. They're interested in winning, being right, & being in power.

Didn't Margaret Tatcher and Ekaterine the Great prove those people wrong?

Powell was the first black Secretary of State. His appointment was strongly supported by Republicans. I do not see why the same people would not support Rice's nomination.

I strongly disagree that no republican man can beat Hillary. I think Gulianni, McCain and Powell could take her out easily. Saying that, I think she has the dems nomination if she wants it, but they would be foolish to give it to her IMO because she is viewed by most of the country as being more liberal than Kerry.

....Being Republican thinking and having many Republican thinking friends I am of the opinion that her sex and color do not matter. I have had many conversations with many people about the prospect of her running in the future. I would have no problem with her being our President and neither would they. It's about policy and has nothing to do with race or sex. Accusing Republicans of being that shallow and trying to stereotype them as anti black and anti woman is very insulting and very narrow minded. That type of stereotyping is the very thing that liberals accuse Republicans of all the time.

No - they're not going to run woman vs. woman, especially BLACK woman vs. WHITE woman. Won't happen. It's not clear.

What is wrong with that? It will be a good way to test whether racism has been put to rest in this country.

Eventually a black candidate will run against a white candidate. Unfortunately, given the responses seen so far I think it is not likely to happen before 3000.

No - and there will be old-fashioned Democrats who won't vote for a woman, either - even if it's Hillary.

Those old-fashioned folks, though, vote in higher percentages than a lot of younger, less judgmental folks. I think it's smart strategy to run a straight-laced, conservative, serious candidate vs. Hillary. Hillary will get most of the minority vote and much of the young vote. I'm still not sure she can win her first effort. She would be better off running as vice with another candidate - maybe a less liberal one, since apparently America isn't ready to go very far left.

Evan Bayh would be a good candidate to appeal to those in the middle.

If the democrats want to get young people to vote (and it this point THEY HAVE TO). They must target them. For example if the next democrat Candidate said they would legalize marijuana, lower the drinking age etc.
That might get their attention.

wouldn't work, young people's have really short attention spans, won't stand in line for anyhting - that's why they don't show up to vote... also the fact that no matter who they choose it never makes much difference anyway, why not stay home and get stoned?

sorry to but in guys, i know I am from the other side of the world but i just like to know...

who asside from Hillary and Rice could possibly be a contender for the first US woman president...

and asside for Rice, are there other black politician who can run for the presidency...

guys my question is open for a decade or so, just like to know if I will have a chance to witness a first in history...

The drinking age is a state law, not a federal law. The president isn't an emporer - he could put forth a marijuana bill, but I can't see it getting passed.

You're using idealism here....
No matter what you think would be "cool", or some kind of "test"...fact is, NEITHER side is going to put a risky candidate up to run for president.
They're going to send up someone with more mass appeal.

i disagree.i live in the south and every republican white male i know has said that they would vote for condi. i know some won't. another thing that you should remember is that alot of the minority groups are finally starting to wake up and smell the coffee. in the past election the percentage of each minority group that voted republican went up. i know that all parties are corrupt but i feel that the republican party is still what it always has been and thats the peoples party. abe lincoln was republican. it wasn't until the great depression that the repubs lost thier appeal to the minority groups. a few more things to think about....george w bushs administration has more minorities in it than any other has had and will have even more this term. i am sick of the dems acting like they are the friend of us minorities when all they do is hold us back. i just don't beleive all the handouts that they say they give are to help us to do better. i have discussed in the past how we need welfare reforms and how they could be better. as far as whether or not condi would win... i don't know. this country is still a little too biggoted i fear. but i would vote for her.
