But that fact remains he still made at least 5 idiotic statements per telecast.

Yeah, but that's what kind of made HBO boxing good, If the fight was boring the commentating would always be good...it's like you could never go wrong with HBO boxing when Big George, Lampley, and Merchant were doing the telecast..

Yep, I miss George too. He cracked me up constantly, and as silly as he'd sometimes get, he always had something insightful to say about the fighters themselves. I get all nostalgic now, when I watch some of the fights I have on tape where George is still with HBO. <sniff> ;)

I thought he left to try and get back in the ring. George said he wouldn't comeback if lewis was in the ring and now since he is gone maybe he is going to stepin again. I really miss him he added something extra in the comedy department whether it was intentional or not.

I think RJJ is alot better and makes a good comentator! I did like George but he gone now & Roy knows his ****. Plus i like how Roy always corrects Larry its kinda funny!

Do you remember what George said in the Vargas vs Trinidad fight when Vargas getting a break cause Tito just hit him in the balls, Vargas's manager was yelling at him to stay and take all 5 min of rest and George was like

I remember watching that fight in which he announced he was leaving, he said something about wanting to spend time with his grand kids and buying an RV, he seemed pretty intent on leaving for good.But i think it was implied he was leaving to develop a super dupper XXL foreman grill.

but i dont miss foreman, i guess he made me laugh too, but laughing at him was a little distracting, and Rjj seems to me like he knows what hes talking about, and there always jim lampley to keep things refreshing.Now when HE retires, mayweather fights get that much less exciting.

Am I the only person who thinks that a "Boxing Channel" would go over big worldwide? There is no reason at all that we shouldn't be able to watch boxing from around the world, almost 24 hours a day. Jesus Christ, NASA has a 24 hour broadcast on DirecTV...why don't we have a boxing station?

Although I didnt think I would, I kinda miss big George! I think he did much better than Jones does, and atleast he could make a person laugh from time to time with the off the wall stuff he'd say. And the spats with Merchant are legendary (and sorely missed!!)

I liked George and i like jones. But i liked that George would take control at times away from merchant and lampley and go off on his own.
Merchant and lampley seemed to act like they were the draw and who the fans at home wanted to hear. I dont remember many memorable moments from lamp and merchant but plenty from george.

I can not understand for the life of me why HBO never gave Iran Barkley a shot at the job....he is easily one of the smartest fighters the game has ever seen and his insight into the sport would be incredible...

If not Barkley than maybe Hearns-Hearns is also a brilliant man that could certainly bring a lot to the table!

yeah, in a way, this is true, alongside the drunken larry merchant and big george foreman, RJJ adds awesome entertainment value to HBO, although, i guess they could just as well have Zab Judah there talking ****, or better yet James Toney - i'd love to see him at ringside talking trash about all the fighters and making up nicknames for them
