SALT LAKE CITY - The Mailman is calling it a day. Karl Malone, who for 18 seasons as a member of the Utah Jazz teamed with guard John Stockton to form one of the NBA's greatest duos, will announce his retirement on Sunday, the Jazz said in a news release Friday.

The 41-year-old Malone, who underwent knee surgery last summer, is healthy and works out every day but has not played since last season with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Malone will announce his exit at a news conference at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City.

The Jazz had no comment Friday on the decision by Malone, whose agent said last week it was possible Malone might return to action with San Antonio.

Personally I am glad this stupid ***** is gonna retire without ever winning a ring. I was happy when he couldn't win a championship with the Lakers and I am happy as hell now. Malowned for life.

PS: Stockton deserved a ring, though.

i think he is making the right decision. he tried last year but couldnt get it done but there is no shame in that. prob best player not to win a championship.(charles barkely and john stockton are the others in consideration imo.)
