I was planning to go on a missionary trip to the jungles of Belize this summer, but because of church politics it has been postponed. I was going to spend a few thousand dollars, of which is now free for my disposal. So, I’ve thought about skydiving. I paid for my mom to go when I was 17 with some money I won in some fights, now I’m 21 and figure it’s my turn. Gunna go solo on my first jump, because I’m a student it will cost about 250 bucks, (which is a good price believe it or not).

Have any of you ever skydived, or thought about it, or know someone who has?

My mom went tandem, (where your instructor is strapped to your back the whole time, which blows), and when she finally landed on the ground she was so rushed and amped up with endorphins it’s made me jealous ever since. I have the money, I’m old enough, I’m crazy enough, and I have a hunger for extremism, ( a little bit)... so.. yea, refer to the question above.

You know, you can still skydive alone!

i hope you land head first on the ground and die.

Me too, then I'd be able to always be with you and constantly haunt every aspect of your life. I'd watch you while you were sleeping, while you were in the shower, I'd even be the one to gently blow on your face while you think it's just a strange gust of wind. And every time that you think you're alone, I'd send chills down your flesh reminding you that you are never alone, and that I'm waiting for you on the other side, patiently as only an evil soul of revenge could.

Ok here is the deal. You can't go solo on your first jump unless you have meet the requirements for solo jumps. Which means that you are taking current classes adn you have about 5 to 10 tandem or assisted jumps.

Skydiving is second to orgasms. That is all.

I loved it when I was in the military and I love it now!

GeNeRaL
02-10-2005, 03:11 PM
Ive gona a few times.

1. for your first jump, you can not go solo at any reputable USPA school.

2. 250 is rediculously expensive. My first tandem was in florida and i paid 110 bucks. When i began my solo jumps in Ellington CT i was paying 140 each time for class and the jump towards certification.

If you are REALLY jumping solo on a first jump, i hope its an IAD (instructor assisted deploy) or static line, because you wont know what the hell is going on in freefall if you dont have AFF instructors stabilizing you.

It's not something you just "do".

The Mouse
02-10-2005, 03:12 PM
Actually yes, you can go solo on your first jump after you complete a 6-hour intensive class. I don't know where you're from, but here in Cali that's what it's all about.

Carlao
02-10-2005, 03:12 PM
BTW- Is worht every penny. The license will run you about $2k. and you have to go to the classes and pass the test and all that happy horse crap.

But YES do it!

The Mouse
02-10-2005, 03:12 PM
Yea.. it's IAD.. sorry I didn't clarify that

Sara
02-10-2005, 03:16 PM
It's around $150 near me, and they let you jump solo after a training class thats about a half day. I think the first few jumps though have to be that static-line, or whatever it is where theres practically no free-fall.

Yeah, I should finally just go at it alone.

AgonYx0
02-10-2005, 03:17 PM
i'll be safe regardless. jump alone.

thats how i did it, class and IAD.

although i did a tendem at 13,000 feet first to make sure i liked the freefall andgot the whole experience. my first solo IAD the radio hit my chin and broke when the chute opened, so i was on my own to land properly in the right spot.

thank god i payed attention in the class lol

Here in Cali, everything is MUCH more expensive.

I've thought about it.....it's my way of confronting my fear of heights. I'm waiting until I'm done raising my kids, just in case. Only 3 and half more years.....

The Mouse

You know, my mom's afraid of height too. She said it wasn't really a problem for her because that high up, it's just so surreal... and it's not like there's anything on the sides of you to gage how fast you're falling either.

not necessarily. not everything anyhow.

Dont forget CT is considered the most taxed and expensive state as a whole to reside in. sucks balls, but thats the facts. Im sure cities in cali like LA and what not are much more expensive then everywhere in CT, but speaking as a whole anyhow, stuff is expensive here as well.

although id love to hear some examples of things there that are MUCH more expensive than things here... should be interesting.

2,200 square ft house for $500,000 in Oceanside and that is just below the median. 4 bedrooms, 2 and half baths. Just under 1/4 acre lot. Home is over 20 years old.

We only paid $226K nearly five years ago. Glad we moved then and not now.

i wont argue that cali is under the biggest raise in housing index, but there are other places in the country than cali that suffer high medians like that, too.

anything other than the housing though? like daily stuff you come across?

(this isnt to debate you, but rather now im curious, plus ill be there in july for a week and i'd be interested in rates on things)

Well, according to my BIL, who's in AZ, cars are more expensive here. We do have stricter regulations on the emissions systems. My daughter, who just bought a used car, could have gotten it for $2K less in AZ, according to BIL. To us, here, it was a good price.

The price of gas. $2.09-$2.21 is what I saw today. I've got to go fill up today too. :-(

Milk runs about $4/gal ....there? You get a break if you buy two at a time. Drops the price big time $5 for two.

Bananas $.65/lb

Give me some more ideas.

pretty much the same everything here. 'cept emissions of course.which we dont have for the moment due to a corrupt system that fell apart. it's all being reorganized now.

That's like asking me, "You sucked on your mother's breast when you were a baby, but have you sucked on this other girls breast now that you're 21?" My answer to that is the same as to your question: Why the hell would I want to do that? I've done something similar, I got the idea, and bluntly speaking, it's child's play.

LOL.. I'm slow sometimes. Yea, that's sounds crazy wicked too. My dad actually used to do that until he went over the handle bars: both brake-clutches(whatever u call them) went into his wrists and as he was flying over them, they tore both of his fore-arm muscles out; broke a few ribs, broke his elbow, broke is leg, and also got a wicked concussion.

stupid error. 6 of us were riding on some backroads, came to almost a dead stop cause there was a dump truck pulled over but the road was narrow. i was 3rd in line. the guy in the truck waved us to pass, well we al started going around him when we realized that wasnt a good idea with another dump truck coming the other way.

first guy got hard on the binders and stopped, 2nd guy rearended him, i had a choice... hit them, swerve right and hit the truck, or swerve left. i chose left and thats when i saw the oncoming truck and panic-braked my way over the bars lol
