How do you all stand when fighting?
in JKD, we train to put whichever side forward you are most comfortable with, but my instructor likes to get us to at least try th "strong side forward" method.
Basically i find righ handers typically are used to left foot forward so they have that right hand ****ed back and probe with the left jab, ready to unlease a bomb.
The philosophy of strong side forward was one of the things Bruce Lee practiced, amongst other JKD players, and it allows you to land solid accurate jabs and hooks, as you aren't as accurate with your "awkward side hand". This also saves you in real life self defence from breaking your hand with a huge bomb on someones chin, or so im told. makes sence to me. Also im told boxers stand weak side forward because they are using big gloves to shield their hands better so when they do drop that bomb, their hand doesnt get as hurt.
I've gotten very used to strong side forward and found myself actually feeling very balanced with switching lead legs now and fighting either way. I think this helps in the long run, and would prove beneficial in MMA fights for sure.
thoughts? how is your stance?
