Who takes the crown of the late 90's?

I want some serious ****ing debates in here, The cartridge or the disc? The cutscenes vs the no loading time? Final Fantasy VIII and Zelda: Ocarina Of Time. 007: Golden Eye, Metal Gear Solid, Super Mario 64, Xenogears, Wcw/NWO Revenge/Wrestlemania 2000, Resident Evils, etc.

It's the PS1, but the N64 will always have a place in my heart, purely because of Ocarina of time and Goldeneye.

While N64 had some of the best games ever (Goldeneye etc.) The Ps1 wins for me. Because it was easy to get chipped, and you could buy games for about 3.

Plus music and videos were strange on the cartridge.

I liked the PS1 more. My favorite games on N64 were Goldeneye and Ocarina Of Time, but the PS1 just had everything else (Street Fighter, Tekken, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Resident Evil, etc.).

Golden eye 007 was probably one of the sickest games ever made.

Zelda was the **** too back in the day. Also super smash bros was fun as hell.

N64 FTW.

The plastic joystick was horrible and needed to be replaced every few motnhs thoug, and would really **** up your fingers.

Playstation, it had loads more games and they didn't cost 60 like the n64 cartridges.

Hard to compare, Playstation had over a 1000 games, N64 had 240 released in the US. I still maintain that N64 best 20 were better than PSX' s best 20 but you can't overlook the fact that the PSX had so many titles.

Mario, Zelda, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Turok 2

Fantastic!

I am a playstation guy but Goldeneye really was a masterpiece.

Well it seems like everyone is all about Golden eye. I never played that game but I will say I liked the ps2 better then N64. Nintendo only had specific games like Mario and others, but the ps2 had a larger variety of choices which i liked. Need for speed, Tomb raider, Gran turismo, Final Fantasy just to name a few. PS2 all the way and now the ps3 is even better then any other system out giving you Pooray as well as a gaming system.

quality over quantity baby.. who the **** is gonna play 1000 games.. i was a video game head back then and i probably only played about 20 games... N64 def takes the cake.. my favorites were Super Mario 64, Zelda : Ocarina of Time , Goldeneye, and WCW NWO Revenge

i liked the metal gear solid game for PS but those games are probably some of the best games ever made

Goldeneye
Turok 2
Pilot Wings
Orcania of Time
Diddy Kong Racing
Mario Kart
1080 snowboarding
Smash Bros
Mario Party

It was the ultimate multiplayer machine pre-broadband....but

But Resident Evil 1 & 2 > all of the above.

Resident Evil
Metal Gear Solid
Gran Turismo
Final Fantasy
Silent Hill
Syphon Filter
Wipeout
Driver
Tekken
Cool Boarders

So many more good games on PS than there were on N64.

I owned a PS1, so I might be a little biased.

But N64 had a lot of great games. Golden Eye, Mario Kart, and Ocarina of Time were classics. And the WWF and WCW games were better than the ones on PS1.

Have to go with PS1 though. Way too many classics to name and I still play a few of those games to this day. Just downloaded Resident Evil 3 a few months back.

I am actually a Sony guy but I gotta go with 64. I have alot of history with Golden Eye, Wave Runner, and Mario Kart.

Playstation had some great games but I did not end up getting a PS till much later.

Edit: Great post btw. Difficult comparison.

The number of titles released on the Ps1 is ridiculous.

To this day has any other console come close? I doubt it.

It's the Heavyweight Champ of Console systems.

PS1 hands down.

MGS1 + Special Missions, GTA 1/2/London, Gran Turismo 2, Resident Evil 1+2, Tekken 3, Syphon Filter 1+2, Driver, Final Fantasy 7, ISS Pro Evo 2, G-Police, Policenauts, Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped.

I liked the N64, but it wasn't as good as the PS1. Goldeneye is a better FPS than any on the PS1 though.

PS1 takes it because of the wide variety of more serious games. Zelda was amazing and Goldeneye was great but every other game for the N64 was a family friendly cartoon game. PS1 had the best serious RPGs, the best racers, the best fighting and the best sports games, the Resi Evil series was outstanding, Metal Gear Solid was groundbreaking and then there's Silent Hill...

The average age of a console gamer is now 25-35 yrs and this is due in a large part to the fact that Sony's machine was putting out games with distinctly grown up themes like the first GTA or even Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 while Nintendo were still marketing their machine to families with young children.

So as great as Mario is, I'm a bit more interested in nuanced gaming than I am in jumping on mushrooms.

N64 had probably the two best games of all time in OOT and Mario 64.

Also great games like: Mario Kart, Zelda Majoras Mask, Goldeney, Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie, Conkers Bad fur day and Wrestlemania 2000.

not as many games as the ps1, but better AAA titles imo

Almost exclusively cartooney family games though.

Nintendo 64 was king of wrestling games, though.. wcw nwo revenge, wrestlemania2000 and no mercy... :frown: Ocarina of Time is a 10 in my personal opinion, that's a definite classic. But PS1 has more.

arrr man this is a tough one....both are badass consoles....its like choosing between coke and pepsi...goldeneye on n64 is probably the best multiplayer game i have ever played in my life but the playstation had great in depth games like metal gear solid and final fantasy...playstation just about nicks it for me. there was just more games that i liked on playstation but n64 still has to be considered one of the best consoles ever made...

on a side note anybody played the new goldeneye on the wii?? im tempted to get it but im just worried it will be a total let down because i have such find memories of the original and dont want to ruin it.....
