View Full Version : Quick video of me showing some punching speed.
arcyannnni 07-08-2009, 09:50 AM I've done some recording, low quality phone camera and the circumstances didn't allow me to put anything special into the video because even though it's day there are people in the other room sleeping.
I also have my phone balanacing on my radiator >_> sorry for the crap angles and quality.
I will try again tonight when I can show technique, movement and power when everyones out the house, have a guard up as well

Best punch is my jab, My friend in sparring can't get past it, I'm also southpaw.
judge_jab 07-08-2009, 11:06 AM well you've obviously got pretty quick hands but your technique isn't great, keep your weight balanced and bring your hands back to your face, also don't flick out the jab, and when you double it up remember it's two single punches not two half punches etc.
Fully extend your punches and keep a tight guard, I'm in a rush, if you've got any other questions I'll try and help, along with others later.
Like I said, nice speed man, just work on sharpening up a bit.
arcyannnni 07-08-2009, 11:44 AM Will do man, I'll update a bit tonight but the colouring of the room might be a bit red without any natural light.
I basically had to throw as many punches in a short amount of time without waking up my dad next room, In the process I forgot any tecnhique haha but just wanted to demonstrate the hand speed but tonight I'll apply the goods.
I'll see what improvements I can make, thanks for the advice.
Esquire Dale 07-08-2009, 11:48 AM What do you weigh?
Good speed from what we've seen but little jab taps and straight lefts don't prove much. Technique/Power looks poor. We need to see combinations/hooks to actualy see if you're any good.
What you are doing looks flashy but aint effective.
We need to see more.
Post a shadow boxing video.

Good speed. Technique/Power looks poor though. We need to see more.

at least you do have the speed which is hard to acquire, the skills can be learned but speed usually cant!
arcyannnni 07-08-2009, 12:00 PM 5,8 Reach 26, 19 years old almost 20. 140 pounds (10 stone)
but I want to make Lightweight limit, I've only been going gym for 2 months, and everything I'm doing I've had no training just watching boxing videos and my friend that works at the gym teaching me.
I am going to the boxing sessions soon because I want to be trained and become faster and such and then compete.
Haha ya the punches I threw were pretty much taps because I kept my distance and I didn't want to land the bombs because it would wake the people in my house.
---
On another note I've got a powerful Left hook, My brother who is 31 and weights 11 stone couldn't punch as hard as me when we had ago on one of those punching machines you sea in arcades at the beach.
We had 5 go's, I think first 2 tries i got around 680, then surprised him by getting a 780, I finished on 845, i think my brother has the videos he recorded us doing it.
record was 960.
I'll see what I can do tonight, and show some power.
arcyannnni 07-08-2009, 12:04 PM Without training ...
I would say my strenghts are;
Speed
Reaction time
Movement
Powerful left hook
Get hit few times
Cons
Stamina
---
That's pretty much it, If I could apply what i do in 1st minute of sparring into the later sparring rounds I would be pretty good at that stage anyhow.
I'm not fit, my body fat percentage is less than 10% though, I can only run for 1.8 miles before stopping which is pretty lol, I need to apply the pressure and get fit.

Agreed, if you look on my youtube channel you can see me playing some Zelda on my guitar and it's out of sync and all sorts.
I'll buy a Digi cam soon enough
arcyannnni 07-08-2009, 04:25 PM Here's some more improvised hitting the bag.
Less speed and more weight behind the punches, little bit more movement and techinuqe i suspose but the angle is still kinda funny because the punching bag 3ft long and 18kg but looks like a mini one.
Had many attempts at this but I kept shaking the house and the punching bag kept falling over after a few punches.
I think the speed of the punches in the first video had more effective power than me using the Haymakers in this one.
If you could give me a set of combo's I could perform them but for now It's just me improvising, hopefully some display of power is shown in the video but I still don't think the video (Mainly quality) does me much in that department.
Enjoy
(Night time even worse quality xD)

arcyannnni 07-08-2009, 04:34 PM By the way I don't throw 100 punches a round I'm a counter puncher or so it seems for now, I catch my friend on the back foot majority of the time, The jab alone usually acts as defense and attack against my sparring partner and the left is used for power shots apart from 1-2 combos and quick flurries.
Cotto Rules 07-08-2009, 05:08 PM You're doin good but there is nothing like entering into a gym. You'll find different fighters who will give you different problems and different sizes. Keep working on different exercises alone like shadow boxing and heavy bag , and don't forget calisthenics.
Before i started boxing the only thing i knew was fighting at the outside and using the fast jab and the fast 1-2 like a Klits.
Now i'm ten time better than i was in march, i know how to set up combos, use the shoulder roll, and because of my shadow boxing work, i know how to bob and wheave effectively.
If you don't find a gym this summer, keep up the work and get one in september.
rskumm21 07-09-2009, 01:25 AM Keep that left hand up or you're going to get rocked
arcyannnni 07-09-2009, 05:35 AM Owe I've been gym for 2 months, but it's every other day and I don't get trained by a trainer, I just train with my friend that works there and spar with him and his cousin.
I do keep my left up all the time because only on occasion do I actually throw it, I can do everything that is needed with the jab against my friends, I use the left if he moves into it and 1-2 and flurries but i'm just practicing the jab and getting that to stick.
arcyannnni 07-09-2009, 05:44 AM Obviously this is all just improvised watching fights and training in sparring everyone once in a while.
I need training with a trainer to teach me the techniques and such.
Only a few years ago when me and my brother were play boxing I used to get my ass kicked because I fought in orthodox position, then only a year or so ago I thought hey maybe I'll try boxing, only then did I go, hey I'm left handed maybe I should turn southpaw and the jab was there and the speed.
My friends annoying because he switches position like a switch-hitter and Most of the time I get him with a faint jab and a right hook around his guard, but I do need to keep my guard up sometimes when he comes in and after I've countered him and he gets annoyed he throws wild shots and It always lands on the left side of my face.
Only recentely have I implemented weaving and such I'm also good at reflexes so I'll try to implement some Whitaker style movement, because I haven't done this against my friend yet.
