View Full Version : alcohol related question!
DiLLiNGER 07-05-2009, 02:25 AM i just got back into training after a 3 month lay off..train 4-5 times a week..get drunk on the weekend most of the time when i go out..can alcohol affect a person who trains in any way ,i mean some people say when u train u sweat it all out anyway.
F l i c k e r 07-05-2009, 02:29 AM Yes, it affects you. It destroys your liver which in turn weakens your kidneys. So, there's your answer.
Nosferatu 07-05-2009, 03:36 AM The fact that you just came back from a 5 month lay off should be even more conservative with the alcohol, you have to bring your body to a high level of competition bro.
Believe me I'm all for getting buzzed with my friends and dancing with girls and having a good time etc but, drinking every weekend is too much when you're trying to compete in boxing at a high level. You will regret it when you're in the ring getting your ass kicked b/c you didn't train to your full potential.
Its like this you want to be the best? Limit your drinking to once a month or so at the most, otherwise risk it and see what happens...hey its all on you..

yea u rite ,thanks for advice.
Alcohol can leave you sluggish and with a bad headache, even a couple days after consumption. Plus it's killing your brain cells and damaging your liver. Worst of all for a boxer is that it's a lot of excess calories. It's going to make you fat, especially if you binge. Boxers can't be fat, you'll be slow as hell and who's to say you'll make weight easy with all that extra fat to cut?
Dynamite Glove 07-05-2009, 04:21 AM Salvador drank and still kicked ass.
jk drink as little as possible if you're taking boxing seriously

thats a good thing bro. dont be one of these guys trying to be mike tyson spending more time on how their body looks than how it performs. then fighting guys naturally bigger than themselfs and getting flattened. im 192cm and i fight at 69kg (152lbs). and i used to fight at 64kg (141lbs).
the drinking will slow u down big time. if i drink on a saturday night i feel monday and tuesday pretty much go to waste as far as training is concerned. i feel fine but my body cant reach the level i want it too, and the results of my training suffer. so drinking mess u up both short term and long term. i personally replaced it with weed, much less harmful to the body. only drink on occasion these days.

Man I hate to burst your bubble, but your better off drinking a 12 pack a night instead of getting high depending on the level of your opposition. Weed has lasting effects on the body. It basically can make you a limp noodle in a sense, it makes you less aggressive, and can't be good for your lungs.
UncleSamPatriot 07-05-2009, 01:42 PM "Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise."
Essentially training is to make you stronger, alcohol will only make you weaker, it is poison after all. How many guys are killed in ring but how many people are killed by alcohol every year...

it makes me a bit less agressive, but it keeps me in a state of mind where i can train harder. sound weird i know, but it works like a reward. also my general happiness go up when i get high on a regular. it is bad of the lungs, but not as bad as cigs, and i feel i make up for it anyways. i cant talk for nobody else, im not like that. im not one of those dudes saying everyone should stop doing weights for boxing, i dont do it personally cuz it doesnt work for me. i feel slower when using weights. not saying it makes ppl slower, i get slower. same thing here, drinking affects my training more than weed.

The question you gotta ask yourself, is the one I ask myself when I go outside and train in 105 degree heat with three box fans pointing at my heavy bag. "Why am I doing this?"..."The other guys aren't" is my eternal answer...look at pot that way, I promise your opponents aren't all smoking...Are you boxing competitively?
Dynamite Glove 07-05-2009, 02:27 PM also how old are you
#1Assassin 07-05-2009, 04:40 PM also how old are you
im 18. and to answer your previous question yes, i do compete. listen man everyone has their things. cotto drinks, winky has his doughnuts, hagler used to drink for sure and he might or might not have smoked weed aswell. im not a slacker, this is my one thing. feel me? i still think my talent, hard work and size will allow me to get the W over an oponent who doesnt smoke. im 6'3 & 1/2 and fight at 152.

To be fair mate, substances effect everyone differently, the difference between weed and alcohol in this respect is that even if you can train 100% whilst being a regular drinker it is actively damaging your body as it is toxic to your body. Weed is not toxic to your body and the only real effects it will have on you is it can damage your lungs (there are ways around this, vapourizers for example) and it can affect you mentally if you are predispositioned to that.
However many people smoke weed and it helps them train better, some people smoke weed and it makes them lazy and train worse, my point is weed affects people differently but wont really have leave any adverse damage to your physical self, alcohol on the other hand damages your body tremendously whether you handle it well or not.
Spartacus Sully 07-05-2009, 05:59 PM Moderation moderation moderation. Dont go out and get f'd up but a few beers with some cards or a movie and a few friends isnt too bad at all. Even if its some mad party you can still moderate your self and try to find some water every once and while Staying hydrated is one of the most important factors to how you will feel the next day.
FeFist 07-05-2009, 06:28 PM I'll once again use Ricky Hatton as an example...... just take a look at him.
The answer is obvious and needs no real explanation other than you looking at people who drink regularly. If you get wasted every weekend ideally you should cut back, this is whether you are taking boxing seriously or not.
It's not good for you.

I feel a bit sorry for Hatton, it was his persona outside the ring that made him what he was, and even if he had wanted to stop drinking he probably wouldnt be able to as he would have felt like he would be turning his back on his fans. In a way it was his fans that made him and his fans that broke him imo.

damn man, thats deep. poet aint got **** on u, jk.
Journeyman 07-06-2009, 10:41 PM i say taking shots of liquor on the weekends is fine...but guzzling beer with your buddies while watching a sporting event or at the pool hall is not a good look.
maxbodyboarder 07-13-2009, 06:41 AM yeah dude its not worth it, drinking is fun as man like nothings better than being out on the scene since i turned 18 (legal age in australia) i only been out 3 times, i gave up drinking so i could fight and it works wonders i got so much effin stronger!
its hard but worth it, drinking can stuff u up, if i drink on a weekend and come to training, i feel like i lost atleast a weeks fitness and that maks me feel down and depressed aye...
my advice, work your f**kin ass off for a month, have your fight then the next night go out n get loose
I've stopped drinking the passed 6 weeks, and its made a huge difference in my training and saved me a ****load of money
Boxing1986 07-15-2009, 04:46 AM Alcohol also diminishes your Protein nutrients. Not good for a serious boxer.
