View Full Version : favourite ever MMA fight? Naps 07-04-2009, 10:00 PM Simple question, but you can only pick ONE, and give reasons please. JoeKickAss 07-04-2009, 10:07 PM Fedor vs. Cro Cop Number 1 vs. Number 2 Fedor outstrikes Cro Cop F l i c k e r 07-04-2009, 10:15 PM Cro-cop rocked Fedor though. But Fedor best quality is being 1 lucky MFer. I really can't decide which one. The one that stands out the most to me though is... Takanori Gomi vs Hayato Sakurai. MetalVomit 07-04-2009, 10:22 PM I REALLY loved the Shogun vs. Griffin fight. Cotto Rules 07-05-2009, 04:46 PM Kimo Leopoldo vs Dan Severn: Back and forth action, great boxing, great kicks by Kimo, fantastic ground game by Severn. I have it as a number one in my book. #1Assassin 07-05-2009, 04:51 PM ray mercer-tim sylvia Dubious-Dutch 07-05-2009, 08:34 PM ray mercer-tim sylvia That fight was epic, but I prefer Kimbo-Mercer. Anak ni Hudas 07-05-2009, 08:39 PM Lesnar VS Mir Stab Judah 07-05-2009, 08:42 PM The one where the guy gets hit with a body shot is going down and about to be kayo'd throws a hail mary punch and ko'd the other guy. What are their names? GroundSt.Pound 07-05-2009, 08:56 PM Too many to name but I'll name some of my favorite Shogun vs. Nog St. Pierre vs. Miller St. Pierre vs. Fitch Fedor vs. Cro Cop Wanderlei vs. Jackson 2 Wanderlei vs. Fujita Wanderlei vs. Hunt Lawler vs. Diaz Cotto Rules 07-05-2009, 09:41 PM Really the greatest fight ever got to be: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs Mirko Cro Cop Nodogoshi 07-05-2009, 10:40 PM I had to think about this one a bit. I'm not sure that I have a favorite fight per say, however my favorite fight that I watched live (televised) was Couture-Liddell 1. I watched it with a bunch of my old training buddies and almost everyone was picking Chuck to win, though I think deep down we were all pulling for Courture. Couture's domination was incredible to watch in that backdrop. Now that I think about it, Couture-Sylvia would actually be #2. At the time Sylvia seemed like a beast and I thought Randy was a major underdog going in. Then he ran straight out and dropped Sylvia with a right hand, and proceeded to dominate all 5 rounds of the fight. I guess Courture is sort of the Cinderella Man of MMA. When his back's against the wall is when he shines. kswizzy99 07-05-2009, 11:19 PM GSP vs Hughes III. even though I prefer striking, that fight was my favorite cuz I remember being in total awe of how GSP took down Hughes and just man handled him into submission, and Hughes is considered the greatest ground fighter ever and GSP was basically a pure striker at the beginning of his career. If someone didn't know anything of either fighter before watching that fight, they'd think that Hughes has zero ground skills and GSP is the most dominant ground fighter in the world. That fight definitley boosted GSP's legacy big time. Nodogoshi 07-05-2009, 11:22 PM GSP vs Hughes III. even though I prefer striking, that fight was my favorite cuz I remember being in total awe of how GSP took down Hughes and just man handled him on the ground and submitted him and Hughes is considered the greatest ground fighter ever and GSP was basically a pure striker at the beginning of his career. If someone didn't know anything of either fighter before watching that fight, they'd think that Hughes has zero ground skills and GSP is the most dominant ground fighter in the world. That fight definitley boosted GSP's legacy big time. Hughes is far from the greatest ground fighter ever. He was something of a pioneer as a powerful wrestler who is adept in submissions, but that's about it. Nodogoshi 07-05-2009, 11:24 PM Hughes is far from the greatest ground fighter ever. He was something of a pioneer as a powerful wrestler who is adept in submissions, but that's about it. I get your point though, just had to pick a bone. GSP's transition to becoming such a dominant wrestler has been extremely impressive. That he performed the task against a man who basically wrote the book on domination through wrestling in the lower weight divisions is damn impressive. kswizzy99 07-06-2009, 12:17 AM Hughes is far from the greatest ground fighter ever. He was something of a pioneer as a powerful wrestler who is adept in submissions, but that's about it. Hughes is FAR FROM the greatest ground fighter ever??? I hope for your sake that you don't really think that. Maybe he isn't the best, but an argument can be made. Nodogoshi 07-06-2009, 12:18 AM Hughes is FAR FROM the greatest ground fighter ever??? I hope for your sake that you don't really think that. Maybe he isn't the best, but an argument can be made. I really don't think so, no. Hughes is a very good wrestler who developed a solid submissions game. That's about as far as I'll go. Nicky Fatton 07-06-2009, 12:24 AM Fedor/Cro Cop was the most hyped match. Shogun/Lil Nog is an absolute war that every MMA fan needs to see. Aztec Wanker 07-06-2009, 01:33 AM There are a bunch: Couture/Rizzo I GSP/Mayhem Mayhem/Jacare Rampage/Liddell I Noguiera/Barnett I Sakuraba/Newton Cotto Rules 07-06-2009, 07:31 AM I think one sided fights like most of GSP's one can't be quoted as great fights. If i had to talk about great fights in MMA, i would say: 1) Nogueira vs Herring 2) Nogueira vs Cro Cop 3) Nogueira vs Sapp 4) Shogun vs Lil Nogueira 5) Wanderlei vs Rampage II 6) Wanderlei vs Liddell 7) Wanderlei vs Yoshida II 8) BJ Penn vs Hughes II 9) Melendez vs Kawajiri 10) Pulver vs Gomi Uturn 07-06-2009, 09:03 AM Griffin vs Bonner was one hell of a war Liaison 07-06-2009, 09:07 AM Frye vs. Takayama. Napalm Death 07-06-2009, 02:40 PM Frye vs. Takayama. beat me too it. but the winner for me has to be Hughes-Trigg 2. the fact that hughes was on queer street and was locked in a deep rear naked choke and still managed t get a submission win was unbelievable. Aztec Wanker 07-06-2009, 03:25 PM Guida/Huerta Sanchez/Parisyan were also GREAT fights. Mrpedigree 07-06-2009, 03:40 PM Dont know if any of you guys see the Takanori Gomi v Jens Pulver fight in pride ??? great stand up fight that was !:boxing Move BRICKS™ 07-06-2009, 03:55 PM Silva vs Rampage I & II Rua vs Nog LA BAD BOY 07-06-2009, 04:25 PM BEST FIGHT EVER is GOMI vs DIAZ hands down. NUMBER 2 in my book is ALWAREZ vs KAWAJIRI fallenloki 07-06-2009, 07:24 PM Shogun v. Li'l Nog Fedor v. Cro Cop (close until Fedor took Cro Cop's heart) Gomi v. Nick Diaz kswizzy99 07-06-2009, 09:27 PM I think one sided fights like most of GSP's one can't be quoted as great fights. If i had to talk about great fights in MMA, i would say: 1) Nogueira vs Herring 2) Nogueira vs Cro Cop 3) Nogueira vs Sapp 4) Shogun vs Lil Nogueira 5) Wanderlei vs Rampage II 6) Wanderlei vs Liddell 7) Wanderlei vs Yoshida II 8) BJ Penn vs Hughes II 9) Melendez vs Kawajiri 10) Pulver vs Gomi this thread is about "favorite" fights, not great fights or best fights. I define favorite fight as a fight that I was most into and emotionally happy about. And "GSP-Hughes III" was it for me. Most likely because GSP is my favorite fighter. so you can call it bias or whatever, but that fight sticks out the most for me. OK, so based on those criterias my favorite fights are: Sakuraba vs Renzo Gracie Sakuraba vs Royce Sakuraba vs Rampage Wanderlei vs Rampage Wanderlei vs Fujita fallenloki 07-06-2009, 09:41 PM Dont know if any of you guys see the Takanori Gomi v Jens Pulver fight in pride ??? great stand up fight that was !:boxing Gomi and Sakurai both KO'd Jens pretty badly. I think they're the ones who really ****ed up his career. veryvince 07-08-2009, 05:45 AM OK, so based on those criterias my favorite fights are: Sakuraba vs Renzo Gracie Sakuraba vs Royce Sakuraba vs Rampage Wanderlei vs Rampage Wanderlei vs Fujita nice pick. i like!
