Well to his credit he did pick up certain things fast...but he definitely didn't deserve the hype.

This is not the kind of publicity the UFC needs. Dana is just looking for ratings and $$$. Scum

I'll admit that I think the UFC is a sleazy organization, but I honestly think that they may be on a skid as of late. I just get the sense that things are not quite going their way, and this seems like a ploy more than anything.

Btw, I can appreciate the fact that the UFC has elevated the sport in the United States, but I think that at this point they're just holding it back. In my view, it's a simple case of the old adage, dinosaurs will die.

It's going to take some time though, but change will come. Whether the UFC changes or suffers the consequences is another matter.

Disagree. How is the UFC fading? It gets bigger and bigger every day. Stop being so dramatic.

Since Brock Lesnar became a champ in the UFC, i don't watch it anymore. In my sight, MMA lost all his credibility as a sport when they let a 1-1 roided Pro wrestler get a crack at the title before legit contenders like Kongo or Gonzaga.
So Kimbo being a TUF fighter doesn't shock me a lot. The only reason i watch some MMA fights is because i practice Jiujitsu and i was a MMA follower until 2007/2008.

Now it seems to be fad, and it's much likely to die in the US, once the young White trash grow up and get a serious job. When PRIDE and UFC both existed, it was really a sport. Japanese glorified MMA and made it a real respected sport, not a trashy young full contact sport.

Dana did say that if Kimbo wanted in, he had to go through TUF...did he not.

And believe it or not, the only one all over Kimbo's nuts right now is $pike. Not Dana.

Viewership does not necessarily translate into dollar signs. Profits are a product of the the margins (cost/revenue). This is why huge companies topple.

As I said though, I'm predicting eventual change in the industry not the outright collapse of the UFC. As I said though if the windfall of change comes and the UFC does not adapt they simply will suffer the consequences.

I understand that aspect and I wasn't surprised by the news that he was in but it still seems like a ploy. I'm just interested to see how this all plays out really.

I agree with the first part about the title shot. Second part no, Japanese don't glorify MMA they hype it up to ridiculous extents. Maybe in Pride, but have you seen Dream, since when is Jose Canseco legit. They cartoon graphics and crap, japanese people love MMA but they like to add their own "flavor" to it.

You still got promotions like Shooto in Japan and Art Of War in China as well as M-1, they seem to give MMA the sport like vibe.
