View Full Version : Breaking news! My son will play t-ball in a league!
kcfman 01-11-2005, 12:15 AM I just got off the phone with a lady whom I called to ask about my 5 year old son to play little league. She said that he can play in t-ball and that I will have to bring him to the park with socks, shoes, mit, and cap on Thursday. Why am I so elated?
Because we live on a farm and he (my only child) had no one to play with except for mom and dad. I have never played baseball and I dont know anything except what I see on tv. I have taught him BJJ, muay thai and aikido since he was 2 years old. His mom taught him baseball and soccer . The only thing I taught my son other than martial arts was golf and tennis. (sports where you rely on only yourself).
Now he is going to play t-ball and he is a great child! Whether he does good or not, doesnt matter to me.
Anyone got words of advice?

Take your video camera and have fun!!!!
All three of mine played. Both girls and my son. Michelle, believe it or not, made a single handed triple play in T-ball. And I left the camera on the chair by the door.
Two runners on first and second. Batter up, my daughter playing pitcher. Pop fly, Michelle sticks her glove out and actually catches the ball. Floored us all...anyway, the runners advance to second and third without tagging the base after the pop fly was caught. Their team is at that the third base dugout screaming at the kids to "go back" and we're at first place dugout screaming "tag them". It was a RIOT!!! Finally, Michelle got it and ran up to the two runners, who in the meantime, ran into each other between second and third and knocked each other down.....tag tag, both out. TRIPLE PLAY!!! Too funny for words!! The kids had a great time learning how to play the game correctly, which is what T-ball is all about. You are gonna love it!!!
Curly Howard 01-11-2005, 12:32 AM you've taught him the other sports so you already know patients and not to get too excited. Just have fun with it. As far as the team, just remind him not to get down on others if they make a mistake and to praise the ones that play well. It sounds like you already know everything you need.
Purity 01-11-2005, 12:38 AM words of advice? hell i dunno kc. i just remember how much i hated t-ball when i was his age. i kept whackin the t but i never hit the ball. the t would fall over and the ball landed right on top of it.
kcfman 01-11-2005, 08:24 PM Thanks! I went today and bought him a glove and cap. I tried looking for baseball pants but I guess he is too small. And baseball shoes, I couldnt find anywhere that carries them like (wal-mart and k-mart). I guess I gotta drive 240 miles to look for them at a mall. Or is there a substitute for baseball shoes?
nance 01-11-2005, 08:34 PM What is it that they require? Our kids didn't need fancy shoes for baseball. Just a good sturdy athletic shoe. If you haven't gotten any info yet from the orginization, call and ask or wait until the parent's meeting. You don't need much for tball.
Have a great time!!!
kcfman 01-11-2005, 09:23 PM She told me, cap, mit , socks and shoes. I assumed that shoes meant baseball shoes. I looked for baseball pants since I thought he would need them. Remember, this is my first time! I dont know anything !!!! LOL!
Fallout 01-12-2005, 01:47 AM Tell him to roid on dex and go Normal Normal Defensive. Oh wait, never mind. Wrong forum.

LOL! That was funny!
kcfman 01-13-2005, 01:20 AM I bought him another glove today. One that has a "web" that can expand to catch and hold the ball better. I am so ****ed up right now. I have no idea on baseball(t-ball), I am running around like "what can I do to make it better for him?" If it any other sport, than I pretty much played it and I know what to do. I guess I have jitters and want his first experience playing a sport with other children his age, to be good. He starts tomorrow.
Thanks madcrewmom and the others.

Don't sweat it. He's gonna have fun! You will too!!! :)
kcfman 01-14-2005, 10:35 PM Well it happened. I was sitting in my chair holding a umbrella watching my son run and learn t-ball. Then all of the sudden, the coach bends down and asked him something and he pointed toward me and my wife. Then he came running and he was crying, I picked him up and asked him what was wrong? He wanted to go home. He went to my wife and held her crying. After 20 minutes, my wife took him closer to the children and eventually he rejoined the team.
One child was covering his face with his glove and wouldnt leave his mom and dad. One of the girls after 15 minutes said "I quit" and just laid in the grass until practice was over.
I asked myself what could I do to make it better for my son. I became the assistant coach! The coach coincidently is a member of my golf club that I belong to and ironically I help him in Golf. He was happy that I would help him and that he will teach me the game of baseball.
All in all, it was a experience and I am sure next week and the next and next week will be something I havent experienced before!
Fallout 01-14-2005, 10:45 PM yeah, that sounds like a first t-ball practice. Don't worry KCF, it will get better. He just needs to get comfortable with the game and the other kids he is playing with.

That's great! Something the two of you can learn together! Great bonding time for both of you. That's so cool....have fun!! :)
kcfman 01-15-2005, 12:06 AM Thanks Creed and Madcrewmom!
Squezze 01-15-2005, 11:05 AM I never played t-ball. I always thought it sucked.
Fallout 01-16-2005, 12:30 AM I never played t-ball. I always thought it sucked.
Well, if you are 15 and playing t-ball, its retarded. However, its a great game for kids to play because no one pitches, everyone gets to bat every inning (at least when I played) and it lets them learn some teamwork skills and gets them into sports.
Trust me, not having a pitcher is a great idea for young kids. Kids pitching for the first time can become VERY frustrated and might quit sports all together.
Purity 01-16-2005, 03:09 PM tough ****
nance 01-16-2005, 03:10 PM Fallout is right. IT's a great game for kids to learn, even if they don't play it again. My girls played two years and my son one. It wasn't a game for them, but they enjoyed themselves, but it helped that they had a great coach and a patient one. He had to be....he had four boys who played the game.
