I'm thinking of getting a new laptop.

Is there any particular brand I should stay away from?

dell makes good computers. however, dell's "customer service" will motivate you to murder human beings.

A co-worker got a Sony Vaio, which i was always impressed with, until after using it a few times throughout the year, she went to turn it on and it was dead. motherboard needs replacing, no one 3rd party stocks the "rare" part ad sony wants 100 bucks less than the cost of an entire new laptop to replace it, so i wouldn't recommend them.

Dell laptops are good. we use them at work and have minimal problems. As said above, the customer service is a pain in the ass, but once you get someone who speaks english they handle **** well, usually, and are efficient with sending out replacements.

I would go for the dell and stay away from "Store-bought" brands like HP, Compaq, etc.

Gateway has always treated me very well. Their support people have never let me down. I never bought a laptop from them, but the PC I have from them has been awesome for 3 years so far.

I have a Fujitsu C-Series Lifebook. I use it everyday; good costumer service; good quality and warranty. Might want to at least take a look at it. (=

My hubby has a Fujitsu one and has been happy with it. I just don't need a fancy one with huge amounts of memory, etc. I just need one for my sewing purposes as I do embroidery work on the computer before I sew it out. I'm learning how to digitize, but the one I have now goes slow and locks up and doesn't get on the internet for some reason just out of the blue. I am ready to chuck it.
