What the hell do people need with an IPOD anyway. Just by a mp3 player that runs on normal batteries. Who the hell needs to take 40 gigs of music with you no matter where you go? How small IS your penis?

farce.

you can replace the battery through the battery replacemnt program at apple for 99 bucks.

you can replace it yourself once you see how simple it is , shown on several websites. new battery is about 30 bucks.

there are 3rd party companies that replace the battery for you for as low as 30 bucks as well.

this rumor has been circulating the net for a while.

edit: i have a 40 gig ipod (and a small penis apparently).

when you have 110 gigs of music, you like to have your variety with you. call me a music snob, or whatever you will. It's nice to take a 3 week vacation and have your tunes with you. I have the wireless itrip too, so it plays on my home and car stereo, wirelessly, and i dont have to burn 80 cd's every month just to hear my mp3's on something other than my home pc :)

these mp3 players with 128 and 256 megs that hold like 4 albums worth dont cut it for me, especially when they are practically as expensive as a 4GB ipod mini.

Mine was a birthday gift from 8 friends as well, so it's not like i payed for it :)

If you need 40 gigs of music for a 3 week vacation then you arent going to be doing much less but listening to tunes. 40 gigs could hold about 2 weeks worth of music. Do you plan on doing anything else?

exactly, listen to what it says: "apple changed its policy on replacing batteries after this movie was released but insists it had nothing to do with the movie"

I've had friends with ipods since the first gen came out with no battery problems yet.

In case you arent aware, i use my ipod to transfer datat between home and work often as well, another good use for 40 gigs of space. Comes in handy like that (it's not just for music its a portable hard drive).

I dont listen to it non-stop on vacation but when i drive like say to Sturgis South dakota, 30 hours eah way, it is nice to have the convenience of 40 gigs worth of music for the trip.

Don't buy one if you don;t like them....why make a stink? just go buy the 150 dollar 256mb one instead of spending 50 more bucks for 4 gigabytes :)

because it isn't "just an mp3player" it's 40 gigs of portable storage. There's tons of things you can use it for. It's like a battery powered hard drive.

my point is the whole battery thing is old news and remedied since, and that if you can use the storage space, why not. It's right for some, not for others. If you can get buy with 15-20 songs, god bless, enjoy. If you can transfer your files on a 1.44MB floppy, email under the typical 5MB limit with most ISPs, or dont miind burning up to 700MB on a cd, all power to you. I've used my ipod for work re;ated stuff, like storing HDD images on so i can wipe and format, etc....so it's useful to me :)

Why do people buy cell phones with fancy color screens, jingley annoying ringers, and cameras for video and stills? just as some would rather buy a phone that just works as it should, others dont want or need the extra space. :)

I'm happy with what I have although my hubby is always trying to upgrade for me. LOL Everything is already outdated by the time you get it home.

because it isn't "just an mp3player" it's 40 gigs of portable storage. There's tons of things you can use it for. It's like a battery powered hard drive.

Then buy a flash drive and a mp3 player. It will be a hell of a lot cheaper.

um... a 40 gig flash drive, huh?

considering a 4Gb, (36GB less) cost about 420 US Dollars, I'm not sure i see the savings.

this is hopeless isn't it? no matter what reasons we say they are useful to us, you just won't accept that lol

A good 1 gig flash drive will cost you about 75-100 dollars on most on-line stores (not places like bestbuy.com they are full of mark ups). A brand name one will cost you a bit more, but not that much more. True flash drives work better and are much more stable than an IPOD being used as one. If you are moving important files, I think that would play a HUGE factor.

Also, anyone thats already moving files THAT BIG back and forth between work has a laptop. Tell me, what could you be moving that your laptop won't hold?

So yeah, it can be useful, but thats not the reason most people are buying it. They buy it because its the biggest newest and therefore the best in thier minds. Most people who buy it DON'T need it, and thats my point. Good for you if you actually get the most out of it General. However, just like I am in the minority than I am happy with a 250-500 meg mp3 player, you are in the minorty in that you actually need a 40 gig one.
