Great White shark tore apart an 18 year old surfer, while his buddies tried to beat the shark away with oars. Those two kids are in the hospital beaing treated for shock. Third attack by a Great White in recent months.

Makes you wonder why they are coming so close to shore and attacking SO viciously.

They should've stabbed it in the eye with a crucifix. That would've done the trick, methinks.

Sharks like that cling to coastal areas. This includes California btw... if they can get through the polluted waters.

I thought a shark got another guy and all they found was chunks of meat and clothes.
Different shark?

San Onofre State Beach had them earlier this year. No attacks, but there were two of them cruising around for a few weeks. That's only 30 minutes from us.

The sharks we've got up here are too lazy to attack anybody. The water is too cold or something.

I have seen a couple giant squid though. Dead ones of course, cause I don't think anybody has seen them alive.

The Shark was 300 metres off shore...this beach is about 15 minutes from my place and is pretty much general metropolitan beach...
The governemnt is all gung ho about catching this shark now and killing it...what that will achieve I don't know. The thing was hardly hanging around in the shallows waiting for toddlers and mothers, it was way off shore doing what Sharks do...swimming around and eating stuff. It is called nature in my book and we as people should realise that we have to share the planet with all manner of creatures.
You surf, you know there is a chance of this happening (I surfed for years and saw a few sharks at different times) and you listen to advice (there had been sightings in the area the last few days and the guy himself had a close call a couple of weeks ago)...people need to be held responsible for their own actions
