Nodogoshi 11-17-2004, 05:11 PM what about mike anchondo. "Mighty Mike" is a pretty dam good fighter and keeps looking stronger every time i see him. I'm also thinking that Andre Ward might be a huge force at middleweight in the years to come. After winning the gold at 178, he anounced on ESPN that he will be going to middleweight to turn pro. With the division as deep as it is becoming now this could make for some great fights. After watching him own that 6'6 Russian world champ in the semi finals of the olympics I'd have to say he should do pretty well against the smaller guys at middleweight after he gets some profesional experience under his belt. Is the hardest puncher I have seen fight in Australia. Was supposed to have a title fight against Irene Pacheo for the flyweight title in Florida but the show was cancelled due to the Hurricane. Was heading over as a big underdog but having seen both guys fight I think Vic would have taken him apart within 4 rounds. Spars and hurt guys all the way up to Welter and the general concensus down here is as soon as he is seen by the US audience his profile will go through the roof. One to keep an eye out for. elveiel 11-17-2004, 06:01 PM A kid from London called Kevin Mitchell has got a lot of talent, but he's acts like a idiot in the ring, he shows too much disrespect for his opponents!! The kid - Khan is only 17 ( he hasn't even got his man bones yet ) and he's a big puncher with skills. muay 11-17-2004, 08:16 PM Watch out for these young guns from the Phils. 1. Rodel Mayol : 19W(15KO's)-0L-0D, minimumweight (supposed to be Calderon's challenger underneath Morales-Barrera 3), good fundamentals & hits like a bantam 2. Rey Bautista : 12W(9KO's)-0L-0D, bantamweight (this kid is only 18 y/o), nicknamed "Boom Boom" (after Mancini?) and touted as the next PacMan (will train at Larry Holmes gym) 3. Diosdado Gabi : 22W(16KO's)-2L-0D, flyweight, good boxing skills (E. Steward was shown a few tapes of his fights and were impressed, the kid will train in Manny's gym) 4. Z Gorres : 17W(10KO's)-1L-1D, superflyweight, good boxing skills (currently trained by Freddie Roach) will see action underneath Pac-JMM 2. All they need is a good US-based promoter to give them meaningful fights and exposure. THRILLAinmanila 11-17-2004, 08:44 PM Watch out for these young guns from the Phils. 1. Great list there ;) You must be a Filipino or you know your Philippine boxing really well :) I'd say No. 2 there has the best shot right now of becoming the next Filipino world champ ;) jack_the_rippuh 11-17-2004, 09:08 PM Demetrius Hopkins claims he's the right-handed Pernell Whitaker. First thing what came to my mind was that he's a boxer who fights in the orthodox stance who likes taking cocaine too, because he couldn't possibly be as good as Whitaker, but then again I never seen 'em. So tell me people, what do you think? trinidadpr87 11-17-2004, 09:15 PM He Moves Too Much.he Needs To Throw More Punches.he Got A Lucky Decision Against Al Gonzalez. phallus 11-17-2004, 09:18 PM Demetrius Hops may claim whitaker, but in his one fight that i have seen he looks very much like a young Tommy Hearns trinidadpr87 11-17-2004, 09:19 PM Demetrius Hops may claim whitaker, but in his one fight that i have seen he looks very much like a young Tommy Hearns WITHOUT THE POWER. He's not strong enough to hurt guys. He only knows how to build up points with powderpuff shots. I doubt that he will do well in the pro ranks, once he's got past the obligatory 10 or so palookas. Nodogoshi 11-17-2004, 11:10 PM Amir Khan is a wild swinging amateur. He's not strong enough to hurt guys. He only knows how to build up points with powderpuff shots. I doubt that he will do well in the pro ranks, once he's got past the obligatory 10 or so palookas. Kahn stopped that Korean guy in the first round in the olympics and it was the only KO I saw in the whole tournament and according to Kahn the guy was Asian champion. That was with big gloves and headgear on so I'm pretty sure the guys got some power. Supafly25 11-17-2004, 11:17 PM Sam Soliman. not unheard of but relatively under the radar. Australian middleweight with an awkward style that could pose problems for ne1 in the division, including Hopkins. whdempsey 11-18-2004, 03:02 PM Ronald Hearns will be good in a year. I saw him fight as an amateur, and he had a style which would mix well in the pro ranks. He's only four fights into his career and some promoter has him headlining a very small card early next year. Despite the fact that he's a major beltholder, Alexnader Munoz hasn't gotten much exposure. KJ 11-18-2004, 03:11 PM Kahn stopped that Korean guy in the first round in the olympics and it was the only KO I saw in the whole tournament and according to Kahn the guy was Asian champion. That was with big gloves and headgear on so I'm pretty sure the guys got some power. I believe it was the only KO in the tournament. Also he is young and his power may (will!) grow some more. stu 11-18-2004, 03:51 PM I think Kahn will be a superb professional. I am just waiting to see what he looks like in the GB v. USA amateur match coming up in December to see if any of his new found fame has affected him in any way. BoxingPromoter 11-18-2004, 03:53 PM how bout ronald hearns? davico 12-19-2004, 11:00 PM Guy called Vic Darchiniyan, Armenian guy fighting out of Australia with Jeff Fenech as his trainer. Hate to blow my own trumpet but.......NEW WORLD CHAMPION :D Soundtraveler 12-21-2004, 04:43 PM I really think Eleazar Contreras a young fighter who fights out of New Orleans, but is originaly from California in the lightweight division I believe can really make some waves. I introduced him on a few cards that I worked for Kingfish promotions, who Contreras used to fight for, he is still going but the Kingfish went tits up. He is tough, has a good chin, pretty good speed too and has shown some power. But what makes him special to me is his recovery time if and when he gets rocked by a punch, I have seen alot of fighters get dropped by a punch that he is able to shake off quickly. Holyfield had the same ability. Obviously I am on the Ivan "Choko" Hernandez bandwagon too in the Super Flyweight Division. I have yet to get the fight between him and Mark "Too Sharp" Johnson converted from VHS but when I do that, you can all see for yourselves why I think the kid will be around at the top for years to come. I would have gotten it done already but my better half had some surgery last week and I have had to take care of her. .::|ULTIMATE|::. 12-21-2004, 05:17 PM I think Chavez Jr will reach the heights. While probably not like his father but he seems to be going in the right direction. He is very well conditioned and Lots of effort (from professional elite fighters, trainers etc) and money is being spent on this kid so he can be a real force. He will be fighting 6 and 8 round bouts next year. .::|ULTIMATE|::. 12-21-2004, 05:19 PM Also if anyone can get Ponce de Leon to relax in the fight i think he too will make some big waves. In sparring he fights totally different then in the actual fight where he swings wildly looking for the KO. {BrownBomber} 12-21-2004, 05:26 PM Demetrius Hopkins claims he's the right-handed Pernell Whitaker. First thing what came to my mind was that he's a boxer who fights in the orthodox stance who likes taking cocaine too, because he couldn't possibly be as good as Whitaker, but then again I never seen 'em. So tell me people, what do you think? Why the hell would we want to have another boring ass fighter like Whitaker? its like e new heavyweight talkin bout im the left handed John Ruiz  Mr. Untouchable 12-21-2004, 05:49 PM WITHOUT THE POWER.Exactly, and he looks real scary in the ring. He goes into a real defensive shell and gets on his bicycle once the other fighter presses him a little. The only thing he shares with hopkins as a fighter is his last name. Demetrius Hopkins, just doesn't seem to have that killer instinct. He will get knocked out once he steps up. I nominate, Cotto, Cintron, and Ouma as future stars of boxing BoxingPromoter 12-21-2004, 05:49 PM What about McGirt's son.. What about Tommy Hearns son Ronald Hearns? BoxingPromoter 12-21-2004, 06:02 PM i like estrada but did you see the main event CHAD DAWSON beat a good experienced carl daniels. I didn't see Estrada's debut but I saw him in last summer's olympics. I've seen Ronald Hearns and he looks like a chip off the old block. reebox8225 12-21-2004, 06:09 PM Ivan Calderon, if he had power he would be scary. Lefthookhappy19 12-21-2004, 06:13 PM Amir Khan is a wild swinging amateur. He's not strong enough to hurt guys. He only knows how to build up points with powderpuff shots. I doubt that he will do well in the pro ranks, once he's got past the obligatory 10 or so palookas. Got to be a joke. Khans one of the only amatuers ive seen who constanly hurts people in the ams. He had a couple of his opponents running for their lives in the Olympics and knocked down a top American twice the other week with lighning bolt punches. tommo 03-10-2005, 01:57 AM yeah i think guzman (the little puerto rican wbo champion) and miguel cotto and the fighters right now who stand out in their weight classes.Perhaps cotto in any weight class.I like what saw of andre wad at the olympics but i think thats a little further down the line.I like rocky juarez as well. masterdirector 03-13-2005, 01:49 AM Brown Bomber, Pernell Whitaker was boring? Damn you just exposed yourself. You either like Joe Louis or maybe just his nickname. But Joe Loius was a hell of a lot more boring than Sweet Pea. Just cause a guy doesn't knock out his opponents doesn't make him boring. Get out of here with that Larry Merchant bull**** mentality. But not a single damn one of you mentioned Curtis Stevens or Jaidon Codrington. I'm telling you, one if not both of these guys will be major players in this game. I've seen Hopkins a few times, not really impressed. Paul Malingnaggi impressed me more than him. Guzman is probably going to do well at his class. Hell, who is there to stop him anyhow? Unless Rafael Marquez sticks around, which I'm pretty sure Marquez'll move up and stay there. I'd already pick Guzman over Oscar Larios and Vasquez. Ponce De Leon just got beat, so yeah, Guzman's future at 122 looks bright. Craig#1 03-13-2005, 09:33 AM the good upcoming boxer i've been keeping my eye on is youngster Sebastian Sylvester of Germany on has last fight he won an easy points victory over Christophe Tendil who just lost a points decision over Hassine Cherifi i think Sylvester can go onto bigger and better things in the future. |
