Informal probation.

If he behaves himself for 6 months, brings his grades up commenserate with his ability, does 40 hours of community service, obeys mom and dad, writes a 2 page essay (as to why taking 4 knives to school is a bad thing and what he could have done differently to feel safer on the bus) doesn't get into any trouble at school or get arrested again, he goes back in June and the charges are dropped and his records are sealed.

Seeing as he's done it already in the last 6 months, this should be a piece of cake.

Mom and Dad are relieved, although we still have to make sure he follows thru. That's our job. :-)

No he's not. He was a kid who made a stupid mistake. He doesn't even know how to use them. The only reason he took the knives was to show to his friends that he did have them. Only the two little pocket knives were his. He took the other two, one from his dad.

Sorry if I sounded upset. I am, but at him. This is one of the most stressful things I've ever gone thru because it was out of my control. Other than any of my kids getting sick, this is the worst thing to go thru. I've been thru surgeries, severe illnesses, car accidents, etc with my kids. I don't wish any of these things on any parent.

I've always wondered what I'd done wrong for him to behave this way and a friend put into perspective.

I have three kids, if it was my parenting skills, I'd have three screwed up kids, not just one.

And in Dan's case, extenuating circumstances with his brain injury and all. It's not easy, but he's worth it. You'll be fine with your boy. Dan most likely wouldn't be like this if it weren't for the accident. :-( I hate bunk beds....lol

While I am very glad your son is being given a second chance MCM, I think its strange that he gets off with what is pretty much a warning, and an 8 year old with Jello in her backpack is suspended for 8 days.

I agree with you on that. I don't think that the girl should have been suspended for doing what her MOTHER told her to do. The mother is at fault there. But that's what I was pointing out before, inconsistency in how schools handle situations like these. Each case should be judged on it's own circumstances.

He doesn't even know how to use them.

Really, he's gotta know how to use a knife. I can't imagine anybody over the age of 5 not knowing how a knife is used.

A steak knife, maybe, but not as a weapon. I don't even know how to use one in that manner...and I'm way over five. :-)

You don't know how to stab someone?

Um, no. Never been in that situation where I would need to. Never learned how to handle a knife properly, meaning where I dont' hurt myself more than I hurt them.

Had an older brother who liked to beat me up. I just kicked. Low. After awhile it didn't phase him so I ran. Fast. And learned to hide well. ;-)

If he's played a video game or watched an action movie, he knows how to use a knife. A knife is far from complicated. Not that I've been going around stabbing people, but he's gotta know how to use a knife as a weapon. You put it in your hand, and thrust it forward or in a slashing motion. It's not rocket science or anything. I can't see that arguement holding any water, to be honest.

technically speaking, you have to stab into a steak before you can cut it.

common sense, pick up the knife and just start stickin the enemy, where ever and all over, its not hard, nasty but not hard. :-)
