Wanderlei Silva was waiting for Pride to announce his opponent for the show on December 31st. The organizers have chosen Kazushi Sakuraba and the Champion approved the choice:
- In Japan it´s common for athletes to fight many times, and this fight was already scheduled a while ago. Since the event is on, and they ecpect a wild dispute with K-1, this fight will give them an audience. Actually, I think it was a great choice: one he´s a very tough opponent, all the fights I have already done with him were great and he´s a warrior. He doesn´t ask to stop and I really think he´s a great fighter, complete standing as on the ground.
After 3 victories over the Japanese, Wanderlei doesn´t hid what he´s intending to put into practice during the fight:
- I´m looking for another knockout. I´ve been treating my injuries and I´ve been under strict and strong preparation for this fight.
