Need some suggestions for fighter of the year. Penn, Couture.. etc
for a poll we're making for the front page.

Also we'll be voting later on

Worse slump (Lawler, Baroni, Tito)
Best Finish or a fight (Silva, Randleman)
Best comeback in a fight (Nog)
and on and on. There some suggestions. Any ideas for this let me know.

* DO NOT move this thread!!!!!!!!
It's here for a reason.*

for starters, add fedor, nog, and silva for fighter of the year.

Mr. Beelzebub

Silva for fight of the year, but not for Fighter of the year. He only beat Jackson in 2004.
For fighter of the year : BJ Penn, Fedor Emelianenko, Takanori Gomi, and Nog.

Mr. Beelzebub

For worst slump you gotta go with Carlos Newton, Curls. He is 0-3 in '04.

Best Finish: Wanderlei Silva vs. Rampage, Royler's triangle, Hughes's armbar on St. Pierre.

Best Comeback in a fight: Chonan vs. Newton,

Best Comeback in a fight: Chonan vs. Newton,

I liked Nog's comeback on Cro Cop but he's done that in almost every fight

Silva shouldnt be on the fighter of the year list, he is 3-0, with his only calibre win coming against Rampage. I say Kharitonov for new comer of the year. Yves should be on the fighter of the year list......

He fought Cro Cop at the end of 2003, Curls. But thanks for playing, though.

Silva shouldn't be up for Fighter of the year because he Fought Minowa, Kondo and Rampage in 2004. Even though Kondo is good, he was not ranked top 10 when he fought Silva.

Fighter of the Year: BJ Penn, Yves Edwards, Fedor Emelianenko, Takanori Gomi.

I agree. Silva had the fight of the year, but he's not the fighter of the year. Let's wait for the New Years Eve show and then decide. I think Nog will be the FOTY.

Couture won 1 fight in 04 and it was boring as ****!

We'll do a poll on all of these in the MMA forum. We just needed nominees for each category.

Couture fought Vitor twice in '04 and both fights sucked. Couture was fighter of the year in '03, but not '04.

GUess we could do promotion of the year too. Pride, UFC, ROTR, K-1 etc....

His first fight was a complete disappointment and the second was really really boring.

Good idea, but I do think Pride ran away with it this year. Their shows have gotten better and better since the change of management.

Pride is always the promotion of the year, sirs. Always.

Yeah, Saku has to be the one. Nog and Silva can also be candidates. My choice is Saku, though.

I say fighter of the year is george st. peirre. Didn't win the title but had a huge run this year in the ufc and had a great match with hughes. Winnings not everything.

BJ Penn or Vanderlei Silva.

The year is 2004 just in case, young man. Couture had 2 fights in '04, both of them against Vitor Belfort.

NO way in hell he is fighter of the year.

Canadians : St. Pierre = British : Murray. If they ever fought, it would start a war.........

I can see a day where people are talking about St.Pierre in the same breath as Sakuraba and Couture. The kid has talent and heart. Now all he needs is experience and he'll be a great fighter.

Good point. Forgive me, we don't get UFC in Australia.

I'm going with Silva ... maybe Fedor then.

ok i went and researched a bit to get facts rather than opinions. Some key things i noticed. Most fighters nominated here for fighter of the year have 3 fights, some having 4. Cro-Cop stepped in the ring 7 times and won 6 of them. To me, that gets my vote. Silva went 3-0, Gomi 4-0, Nog 3-0-1 NC. Fedor 3-0-1 NC, Edwards 4-0, Penn 3-0, but again, crocop 6-1 and not a single mention, likely cause randleman caught him good. Sure maybe a buncha those peeps arent up to calibre, but 7 times in the ring in one year impresses the **** outta me. I know ill get ripped on for this, but i care not. I'm sure i'll be reminded how everyone he fought sucked or something too. lol.

Other things i noticed...

St.Pierre was 2-1 in 04. Losing to Hughes, beating Parisyan and Hieron. Fighter oft he year...not by a long shot imo...

Sakuraba, fighter of the year...with one fight? c'mon kaps lol

K thats all tha garbage i can come out with for now, flame away :)

I can't believe people are picking Wandie over BJ or Yves. Unreal... shows the lack of MMA knowledge.

I just think he's the next generation of MMA. He can stand and throw, work the clinch and grapple. He's a young and talented athlete with a lot of skills. Once he gets the ring time in he's going to be a great fighter

I just think one thing that's often underestimated and responsible for more guys leaving teh sport or falling off is that they don't have the toughness or develop the "callouses" to do it day in and out. Sorta like Pro Wrestling. you know what I mean.
