The Gully Gad 06-15-2009, 04:28 AM Is this the only copy of this knocking about?
Cant wait to see a copy that wasnt filmed on a mobile phone...
KESSLER 06-15-2009, 07:48 AM Damn Tim, you're disappointing me.
#1Assassin 06-15-2009, 07:55 AM the punch that iced a whole sport.. it should be anyways.
The Gully Gad 06-15-2009, 08:36 AM He fell like a big old tree as well getting chopped down!
TIMBER!!
ABOSWORTH 06-15-2009, 10:14 AM :lol1: God damn!! That's what happens when a 1 dimensional bar fighter fights a professional boxer. Not trying to disrespect Tim but let's face it, he is a 1 dimensional head hunter.
-PedoBear- 06-15-2009, 10:16 AM f'n amazing... that was awesome, Sylvia is a bum now....
lol at Mercer's attempt at a takedown though...
jakkups 06-15-2009, 11:40 AM What makes this great is that Tim was his usual delusional self in thinking that he has great striking which he never has. And he gave no respect to Mercer's true ability as a huge puncher and a far better one at that. I mean I just read reports that Tim came into the bout at 311lbs, and from the pictures it looks like it. He just didn't take this seriously and rightfully got his ass handed to him. Way to go Ray!
Nick Fury 06-15-2009, 01:39 PM That was awesome looool
the punch that iced a whole sport.. it should be anyways.i hate retarded posts like this.
all the top mma guys and alot of guys further down the order are all
dedicated athletes with a monumental amount of dedication and ability.
im a boxing fan who hated mma, now im a massive mma fan too, and
rly learnt to appreciate how good these guys rly are. and thats for
UFC, WEC and Strikeforce. and to be honest, theres way less bums
competing against top level fighters, can u say the same for boxing.
back on topic: what a ko, and sylvia haters. come on, he took a
massive shot from a HW. it can happen to anyone at that weight
The Gully Gad 06-15-2009, 02:23 PM Silva isnt the best example though of a UFC heavyweight...
Silva isnt the best example though of a UFC heavyweight...he was a champion there, so altho his style and skill isnt amazing, hes definately been an elite fighter
The Gully Gad 06-15-2009, 02:48 PM Yeh course mate but i was simply replying to the folks that think Sylvia was the best the heavyweights had to offer and putting down the sport over his defeat to mercer...
warp1432 06-15-2009, 02:52 PM Wait? They had MMA gear on? Was it an MMA match or a boxing one?
The Gully Gad 06-15-2009, 02:53 PM he was a champion there, so altho his style and skill isnt amazing, hes definately been an elite fighter
I would of carried on the convo but the red K move was a *****hole guy thing to do....
ABOSWORTH 06-15-2009, 02:54 PM Wait? They had MMA gear on? Was it an MMA match or a boxing one?
It originally was supposed to be a boxing match but was changed to an MMA match at the last minute. I knew that wouldn't matter because all Tim does is head hunt with his fists.
The Gully Gad 06-15-2009, 02:56 PM Wait? They had MMA gear on? Was it an MMA match or a boxing one?
Warp nice 1 bruv...
His big rep did nothing anyway
was like Sylvia's standup Weak
Elemental Fist 06-15-2009, 03:59 PM the punch that iced a whole sport.. it should be anyways.
Oh great, turn this another retarded MMA vs Boxing debate, why don't you?
Fanboys on both sides just love whoring for attention.
MetalVomit 06-15-2009, 04:12 PM Silva isnt the best example though of a UFC heavyweight...
true, even though he was a champ.
also, just as Mercer isn't the best example of a heavyweight boxer
The Gully Gad 06-15-2009, 04:20 PM true, even though he was a champ.
also, just as Mercer isn't the best example of a heavyweight boxer
True True...
That statement though was simply made to back up the everlasting tauting from the Boxing fans that Syliva was the best to offer...
Nodogoshi 06-15-2009, 04:47 PM the punch that iced a whole sport.. it should be anyways.
MMA isn't going anywhere.
Also people fail to realize how huge it is in Japan and the tradition it has there.
I think the bottom line is that both the Boxing and the MMA fans deceive . themselves in different areas.
The Boxing fans deceive themselves in thinking that MMA fighters are just club fighters that wouldn't stand a chance in a ring with a boxer and that is wrong. An MMA fighter fighting smartly will usually defeat the Boxer.
The MMA guys deceive themselves when they tell themselves that MMA overall has good striking. It does not, overall it has horrendous striking with a few exceptions. In this match we had an example of someone who had competed in the elite level of MMA who had depended primarily on striking, and so had assumed that he was actually a decent striker. He found out he wasn't.
The Gully Gad 06-15-2009, 05:59 PM I dont know why we cant just all get along
lol
Boxing is my first love but **** im down with the MMA scene as well

I definitely agree that Sylvia deceived himself in thinking he was a good striker, but I would argue that he got by on his size and awkward style rather than his striking.
I think I know what you mean though, he did indeed win his fights with striking, and this speaks to the level of striking in the UFC HW division at the time. Still, while I was surprised when Randy dominated him in their fight, in hind sight it makes sense. Sylvia is garbage and Randy is a legitimate elite. In that light Randy's victory was all but a foregone conclusion (speaking tangentially here).

Good post.

Yeah MMA striking has a long way to go. At least the sport is still young, there will be a lot of changes in years to come.
Still Pimpin 06-15-2009, 11:13 PM I am a huge MMA fan ......but there is no way in hell any HW in the MMA game can defeat a Pro Boxer with any kind of name under boxing rules. However it makes no sense for a former MMA champ to attempt to stand up with a Pro boxer and do anything other than kick and shoot.
Still Pimpin 06-15-2009, 11:17 PM Might I add, although I personally would never set foot in the ring with Silvia, Silvia always sucked in my eyes. Now Arvloski was the man for a minute but once his chin was exposed it was all down hill.
I would however love to see Chuck vs AA at a catch weight.

Allow me to quote a comrade:
And isn't Alexander Ustinov, a former kickboxer and MMA fighter, the current Current EBA (European Boxing Association) heavyweight champion since his boxing debut in 2006?
