from what i read, he dominated cabbage almost the whole fight... take downs, mad gnp, etc etc. at one point in the fight, cabbage's eye was almolst completely shut.

on a side not, curly got owned. penn, once again, proved that he very well may be one of the best p4p fighters. 3 weight classes, from gomi to hughes, to ludwig to rodrigo.... he dominates.

B.J Penn is a great fighter, but for some reason I don't like him. I think its because he reminds me of shootoking.

You mean, physically? Penn and Shootoking resemble each other?

What is it, the gut?

Rodrigo lost a unanimous decision, eh? Was it that bad or pretty competitive?

I didnt see it, I hear Rodrigo had him in a little trouble in the first, but the second and third rounds where total domination by Penn. LOL@ people who thought Rodrigo had a chance. Penn gets my vote for fighter of the year....

LOL @ me then. every fighter has a chance in every fight. You never know whats gonna happen. Some things are probable, but never is anything definate in MMA.

I don't see why people are all on Penn's jock for beating a middleweight. Rodrigo isn't a middleweight. He's a welterweight that just didn't cut for this fight. Penn and Gracie were both like 181 for this fight. Good win for him but I ain't declaring him MW champ yet. I say let him fight Horn like he wants to, then we shall see.

*This post isn't directed at anyone here, just a general thing. I've seen too many posts about how Penn beat a MW when in reality it was a battle of 2 beefed up WWs

Penn wouldn't beat Tanner. Or Terrel. Two very bad match ups for him.

Not to mention Hendo, Sakuraba, or Anderson Silva.......

Sakuraba might prove interesting. Anderson Silva and Dan Henderson would beat him soundly though.

Yeah, Penn is a top guy at 170, not 185 like some people are starting to claim. Hell, there are a few people that might beat him at 170 too.

Rodrigo isnt even a high ranking 185lber, I dont think that was that big of a victory for Penn......

Come on you fockers. Penn tooled Matt Hughes, Takanori Gomi, Bang Ludwig and Rodrigo Gracie in a span of a little more than a year. I don't know of many fighters who've had a better streak than that.

or because he beat one of your favorite fighters, in Matt Hughes. LOL@ ShootoKing. Man, why the **** would you still think about that guy? ShootoKing is a anorexic, samolian lookin mofo.

Go back to a year ago, even 2 years ago of threads & posts, and I was on his jock then too. Can't speak for everyone else, but I've always been a big BJ Penn supporter.

This is the same guy who said Penn has no chance in hell in beating Matt Hughes.

Could'nt have said it better. Well, maybe I could've, but it woulda taken me a few paragraphs. Thats just me tho. I go into MAD detail, and I type like we're sitting in the same room talkin about it. Regardless, well said, BRO.

I'm not takin anything away from Penn, I just dont see this as a huge victory for him. He beat an unranked guy and people act like he can take out the whole 185 devision. Penn is fighter of the year, no doubt.....

Obviously, we differ on our opinions about whether Penn's victory was a substantial one. I believe it was. But that's just me. To be able to completely neutralize a former multiple Abu Dhabi champ and BJJ black belt's ground game over the course of three rounds sounds pretty impressive to me.

Rodrigo isn't in the top 10 of the 185 division, but that doesn't mean he's not any good. He's had a relatively short career with some pretty impressive wins against guys like Sakurai, Sasaki, Matsui and Takase (yes, the guy who made Anderson Silva tap). I've seen most of his fights and I've always come away impressed. He has tremendous upside, and I think he's got more skills than Ryan. Those are just some of the reasons why a lot of people thought Rodrigo had a shot at beating Penn.

Also, before we go stomping all over the man's plans, let's hear what he has to say first. I don't think he's really committed to fighting at 185 just yet. If he does, obviously he's got a lot of competition waiting for him. IMO, I think 170 is where he should be at.

He's shown to be a good fighter from 155 to 181, I think it's pretty hard to argue that he isn't the best P4P fighter out there right now. No one has really accomplished as much as he has in 2004. Possible argument could be made for Randy, but he went down in weight which is different than moving up to fight bigger guys.

BJ fought Gomi @ 155lbs, fought Matt Hughes @ 170lbs and then he went up in weight, 185lbs to fight Rodrigo Gracie! For those who say he would get owned, think again. That's what everyone said when he went up from 155 to 170 then again from 170 to 185!!! the gracie camp is eyeing a rematch of somesort. i wana see bj get it on with ryan gracie...

I agree, that's quite impressive for a guy who's natural weight is lower than at least two of those guys. Most guys won't get that many quality wins in their whole career!
