Why is it when elite fighters have a sparring session, their sparring partners look like garbage. But in reality, their sparring partners are actually good contenders. Maybe not the #1 contender, but i'm pretty sure they're all pros and they have a decent record.

Roach farms out actualy boxers to spar Pacquiao, so the boxers he picks have to be worth something. But compared to an elite fighter, they look like chumps.

Do you think they give too much respect to the elite fighter? Cus if i were in that predicament and i were a sparring partner, i'd try my damnest to make a good impression. How do you sign up to be a sparring partner. I'm sure they get paid right?

ofcourse they get paid. roach puts an 2-3k bonus in for anyone that knocks pacman down but no one has cashed it out yet. the last training camp he knocked down something like 4-6 of his sparring partners and hurt them bad. first time he sparred amir khan he knocked him down. they just cant handle his speed and explosiveness. roach's only rule in sparring is that you go all out but if you hurt your opponent you dont finish them. with that rule and the 2-3k bonus pay if you knock pacman down is more then enough to have any sparring partner try super hard. as far as signing up im not sure. be an awesome up and commer and hope you get called? lol

I think it depends. Sometimes those guys are told to go all out, but a lot of times they don't go too hard. If they go too hard, they can get sacked. Remember how Valero gave Oscar a black eye so they sacked him? I think it's obvious that they are just working with the champs and not trying to be too competitive.

that's coz they gotta rolle to play, at least must of the time.

A lot of the sparring partners are also asked to alter their natural styles to format to their upcoming opponent's, which compromises what makes them so good.

Case in point, Jeremy Bryan who helped Cotto get ready for Clottey. He's an excellent boxer but had to fight in the peekaboo stance and stand in front of Cotto to emulate Clottey.

A lot of guys are also asked to switch southpaw, mimic a specific defensive style etc.

Boxing, or any fighting sports (real contact) for that matter tend to do this. When two fighters are sparring/fighting the better one can look his opponent/partner look like crap even if that person is a skilled fighter. But that same fighter would look astonishingly good against a worse opponent/partner.
