View Full Version : who like thiago alves??
Over the last year or so i've been a keen fan of the pitbull as he goes out to ko people and will always keep it standing and try to ko you. im just wondering what you peeps out there think of him and what are his chances of beating gsp at ufc 100?? I think he has a pretty good chance he just has to stop gsp taking him down and wrestling him. If thiago can keep it on the feet id give him a great chance of beating gsp as thiago imo has the better stand up of the 2. :boxing:

jakkups 06-10-2009, 12:15 PM I like Thiago a lot. Great on the feet, decent sprawl. Only thing lacking is the survival skills and heart when he is under pressure. I don't think he'll beat GSP because at 170 I don't see anyone beating him. But I'll think he'll be as competitive as any other 170lb'er.

wow dude do ya only think his sprawl is decent, his takedown defence and sprawling is some of the best i've seen. hughes, koschek cound't get him down, i think his takedown defence is sick, dude looks so strong!

Hughes wasn't the fighter he was when he fought Thiago. His shoot is not what it once was and against the young and hungry fighters he's gonna struggle.
Thiago has strength, a good sprawl and has improved. But GSP is a different beast altogether. He's proven to be the best wrestler at 170. He is also the most gifted athlete at 170 and he most explosive as well. He also wins in the submission department as well which is where Thiago has shown vulnerabilities. Plus in comparing resumes and level of competition, GSP wins hands down. Since his 5th pro-fight against Pete Spratt he has fought some of the best on a consistent basis, and to this day improves. The best that Thiago has faced outside of Hughes was Jon Fitch.

yeah thiago's strength is unbelievable, i have to say i think gsp may be stronger. gsp manages to manhandle even the best wrestlers and throw them about like they are weak.
it will be an exiting match up to say the least. I hope thiago keeps it standing and ko's gsp with one of high kicks or massive knees
WAR THIAGO
LA BAD BOY 06-10-2009, 12:54 PM I like Thiago alot.I hope he wins.
If Thiago s spraw gonna work against GSP then he will knock GSP out.
Eric Holder 06-10-2009, 01:17 PM I like his stand up skills
Savino 06-10-2009, 01:26 PM I think every MMA fan is a fan of Alves. He is always in exciting fights and an excellent fighter. It is gonna be intresting to see how he handles GSP take downs and ground game.
The Gully Gad 06-10-2009, 01:57 PM Yeh i like Alves myself should be a good fight between him and GSP..
Would'nt mind seeing Alves win that....
chosen0309 06-10-2009, 03:57 PM I like Alves, he is a good and exciting fighter. He's a HUGH 170lb though, and I think he could go to 185lb. All those big muscles take up a lot of oxygen so I think GSP will wear him out and take him out in the fourth or fifth round. Don't really have anything against Alves, but GSP is my fav fighter right now.
Sandwich 06-11-2009, 01:04 AM I'm a fan of Alves, but I'm a bigger fan of GSP.
If Georges can take down fighters like Koscheck, Penn, and Rashad Evans at will, I don't see Alves stopping him.
Thiago will have a 13 or 14 pound weight advantage, and should have the edge in striking. But GSP will be the best striker that Alves has fought so far as well.
