I see all the cool kids at BJJ wear them under their gi, is there a reason for it? Should I get one?

I know they work great for surfers protecting them from friction. Maybe that's the usage for them under a gi. Can't the material from a gi be rough sometimes?

my friend, a Royce bluebelt, uses one all the time. it protects while training against rash/gi-burn. I dont train gi so i wouldn't need one, but he seems to love his and claims its worth its weight in gold.

I usually just wear a t shirt and don't have any trouble with rubbing or rashes. I thought they might be cooler or something.

Hahaha! Nah man, its preaty much for what MCM said... to eliminate the friction on your skin between the Gi and/ or the mat. If you have'nt seen what the friction does to your skin without it, then you're not training hard enough!

Don't be a sissy la la, son. Handle it.

i wear one so my fat gut doesn't hang out. i've noticed a rashguard can cause complications when going for gi chokes, that's another plus.

I used to get these really bad-looking rashes from my gi before, and my girlfriend started questioning me... so I bought a rashguard from a diver's store. It works pretty well.

All this time I thought this was a trick question. So, they're basically like the rubber suits that divers wear?

no. divers sometimes wear rashgaurds under wetsuits. different material. its more of a nylon/slick material that fits tightly and causes the gi over it to slip around on it, instead of your skin.
