Is salt in some of your food any dangerous when you're trying to loose weight? It really gives oatmeal (etc) a generally good taste if you're not a big fan of it

We do need salt to function, as Ylem says it is an electrolyte. If you train hard sweaty cardio work on a day where you have touched very little salt ie just ate fruit (not bananas!) and drank water, you may notice that you get an annoying headache and a drained feeling afterwards, its due to lack of salt in your system! But it will dehydrate you in sufficient quantity and can lead to problems later in life with high blood pressure etc. Kinetic Linking 06-10-2009, 03:33 PM retarded question, the goal is to train hard and eat nourishing food, not "loose" weight. Salt is fine, obviously. Anyone who tells you not to eat salt is retarded. danny stash 06-10-2009, 04:52 PM retarded question, the goal is to train hard and eat nourishing food, not "loose" weight. Course you need salt, eat to much sodium though and you retain unnessary water and if you were a competitive fighter you would know the impact this can have on performance and making weight. Why is it a retarded question? Excessive salt is very bad for you.... I do as Sugarj said and dont really add salt to meals as they already contain salt and somtimes to much.... As for adding it to oatmeal...i mean once your not adding too much, you wanna keep it balanced...and when your tryin to eat healthy why not jst eat it as it is...or find something you do like that is just as healthy Kinetic Linking 06-11-2009, 12:02 AM you're right this wasn't a retarded question. Adding salt to oatmeal is an interesting, useful topic of discussion. Alexandros 06-11-2009, 02:10 AM Is salt in some of your food any dangerous when you're trying to loose weight? DeepSleep 06-11-2009, 03:26 AM Off topic a bit but if your looking for a healthier alternative to spruce up oatmeal with try honey:hitit:. JoHnNyBoXeR 06-11-2009, 07:45 AM salt retains water... alot of food we eat already has salt so u dont need to add more.. stay away from cup of noodles and those ramen soups they have a gizilllion mgs of salt.. and cold cuts(deli meats) are very salty also oo yea and i eat my oatmeal plain and i love it .. but in your case add a banana and its also very good like that.. just smush it up and microwave it with the banana |
